Phoenix
Phoenix
Like a Phoenix I come from the ashes
Born again in a torrent of flames
Searing away the old chapters
Engulfing them with the fiery tears that fall from my eyes
The ashes of my old life shift and shake
They tremble from what I have become
The tip of my beak breaks the surface
I gasp the new air, and it floods my new lungs
You had me trapped in what I had become
I was the cage, myself delivered to you
You stared at me, touched me and ran your words through my head
They kept running day and night, I could not forget
But then the tears started to flow
In rivers they tore down my face
With no damn to stop them they drowned me in my cage
The fiery water filled me full
That's when I started to burn
You were afraid you lit a match to my skin
You tried to save me
But you weren't really trying to save me.
You wanted me to stare at you again
Wanted me to listen to the words you liked to spin for me
You wanted an animal
One who would pretend to care for you
I was no longer my cage
I was the word free
I was the Phoenix
I escaped you
No more was I the one cowering from your touch
I was the one flying to the heavens
No longer afraid of the heat
I soared to the sun and did not burn
I had burned before
Purged my soul
And now I see in the distance the glint of wings
I see others like me
There you sit on the ground
Tears of water streaming down your face
Screaming to the world but,
You cannot burn
