Oppa, Oppa

What is My Name?

While I was running through the script one last time before going to bed, my phone rang. When I picked it up, the caller ID read, “Hyukjae Oppa.”

“Hello?” I asked in English, smirking because I knew that Oppa would get freaked out.

“…” There was no response from him, but after a few seconds, I heard a different voice ask, “Hello? Could I speak to Kiara Lee?” in a faulty English accent.

I laughed and replied, “Siwon Oppa, you should really just let Hyukjae Oppa speak for himself.”

“Oh, so you choose to speak to him in Korean and me in English?” Hyukjae Oppa angrily asked.

“You’re the global idol who, after 6 years of debut, still can’t even hold a basic English conversation!” I protested.

Hyukjae Oppa chuckled and replied back, “There’s a reason for translators nowadays, my dongsaeng.”

“Whatever,” I rolled my eyes and asked, “Why’d you call?”

“I just wanted to tell you that mom’s already bought your ticket. She emailed it to you, and told me to tell you to print it out.”

“Okay,” I replied. Oppa seemed to be hiding something from me. “Is that it?”

He paused, and then Hyukjae told his younger sister, “Get on your computer and let’s Skype. I think it’ll be easier to talk to each other.”

I agreed and hung up on Oppa. When I logged into Skype, I saw that he was already on it. Right when I clicked on the “chat” button, I heard loud noises and chairs scraping against the floor. Then I was greeted with a bunch of familiar faces.

“Anneyeong, Oppas!” I greeted them. It seemed that they were pushing to get a view of me on the screen, and I laughed when I saw Heechul Oppa suddenly disappear and fall onto the ground with a thud.

Hyukjae Oppa shooed them all away, and he returned to being nervous and hesitant. I bit my lip and asked, “Why are you acting so weird today?”

He chuckled and said, “I’m about to ask you a question, but you might explode so I’m kind of nervous about that.”

I tilted my head to the side, “What are you talking about?”

“I was wondering if you wanted to do a sitcom when you get here,” Hyukjae Oppa went straight to the point and asked me, but his question was dealing with a subject that I didn’t really like. The whole reason that I moved to the States was to get away from all the nosy reporters and fake friends.

I bit my lip and thought about the pros. One, I’d be able to experience a professional filming experience, and two; I’d be able to act with real actors and actresses. Then I thought of the consequences. The press would get a kick out of Eunhyuk’s younger sister acting in a drama, and that made me worried.

“Eunjung-ah, you still there?” Oppa asked. He mentally slapped himself for being so blunt. He knew how sensitive she was when it came to these things.

“Yeah,” I paused. “What’s the sitcom?”

“You’ll just be making a 5 episode cameo in High Kick 3, nothing major,” he explained.

I hesitated. I’ve been watching the sitcom nowadays, and I had to admit that it was hilarious. The actors and actresses were really cool too- Lee Jong Suk was my favorite!

            “It’s only 5 episodes right?” I asked.

Hyukjae Oppa chuckled and answered, “Yes, it’s only 5 episodes. Donghae’s going to act with you, so don’t get too nervous.”

“Seriously? Okay, I’ll do it,” I agreed, excitedly.

Hyukjae Oppa laughed louder and asked, “Do you still have a crush on Donghae?”

“No!” I exclaimed and then blushed when Donghae Oppa appeared on the screen next to Hyukjae Oppa.

“Hey, little girl,” Donghae Oppa said. He smiled and waved. “I haven’t seen you in a long time.”

“Middle school is busy, and I have a musical,” I apologized. “Sorry I haven’t called in a while!”

He waved his hand as if to say, “No problem.” Donghae Oppa said, “We’ve been insanely busy over here as well. We’ve got a comeback soon, so we’re practicing like crazy for it.”

“You guys have a comeback and you haven’t told me,” I complained. “Seriously, I bet the moms and dads all know about it!”

Hyukjae Oppa chuckled and replied, “We actually wanted to keep it a surprise, and then Mr. Lee over here decided that today he was going to tell you.”

“It’s not my fault that I want to keep your little sister in the loop!” Donghae Oppa protested.

“Anyway, thanks for the accepting thing on the sitcom! The director’s going to be really happy when he hears the news. Go to sleep and do well on your play!”  Hyukjae Oppa concluded abruptly.

Before I could say good-bye, the screen turned black and I knew that Oppa had logged off.

I laughed to myself, picturing Donghae Oppa getting beat up by Hyukjae Oppa. Then my phone buzzed with a text from Hyukjae Oppa:

Sorry for not telling you. Omma was going to with Sora when you came over for a visit in May. Good luck with Romeo and Juliet! ^^
