Chapter 14 - In the hands of the devil
Star Illusion | ATEEZ Pirate AU
Hongjoong and Seonghwa watch as Star sulkily leaves the quarterdeck. She has a pout on her lips which she always does that when she’s upset. And she keeps staring upward when she’s thinking. Those are her behaviors that they pick up even if they're just recently met.
Hongjoong serious demeanor turns to wide grin when she’s out of the view.
“What with the ‘I did not have time for love’? Why’re you preventing me from my future love prediction?” He playfully asks his strict quartermaster with a raised eyebrow.
“You’s not stupid, you clearly know she was lying.” Seonghwa answers him deadpanned.
“Eh, who knows. She might confess to me.” Hongjoong’s eyes glint mischievously while Seonghwa gives his captain a judgmental stare.
“And why would you have that kind of notion?” Seonghwa asks.
“Hmm, you see. Whenever she sees me, she has this kind of...delightful look.” Hongjoong hand grips on his chin while thinking about the way Star’s eyes spark when she sees him.
“From what I see she looked at you distastefully.”
“No you don't get it, you heartless.”
But Seonghwa, who always pays attention to smallest details, never misses what Hongjoong has said. He does notice how Star looks way too happy when she sees not only Hongjoong but also his other crewmate and himself.
According to their first encounter, it’s not her beauty that caught his eyes but her expression. He remembered how her face lit up when she saw him and immediately hid it with a straight face. Her behavior is strange, and her sudden existence on their ship is suspicious. The fact that she’s the seer doesn’t fully register into his mind yet although he saw her prediction came true with his own eyes. It is way too odd. Too disbelieving.
Whatever her intention is, he’ll get into the bottom of it.
And he knows Hongjoong must be suspicious about her too.
“You requested San to look after her right? What did he report?” Hongjoong stops joking with his quartermaster.
“He only said she’s interesting.”
Hongjoong ears perk up at Seonghwa's response.
This is the breaking news. San was never interested in any woman. That guy was never interested in anything. He’s a wild beast that neither Hongjoong nor Seonghwa could tame.
Did he put his guest into the hands of the devil?
But since she caught interest of the cold-hearted devil, she is...“Indeed, interesting.”
Star, the seer, whoever you are, they’ll eventually find out.
---
After being defeated badly from the captain and quartermaster duo, I sulkily go back to my room with San.
Being paranoid, I turn my head to look at San every 5 seconds in case he decides to stab me with his cutlass.
San casually strolls after me and his icy stare bore a hole into my body.
Should I add him into my nerve wrecker list?
Yes, definitely a yes.
Then the corner of my eye catches a familiar silhouette of a cabin boy.
I suddenly remember that I’m still wearing this hideous green shirt.
Now I have a victim to vent my anger at.
“Jack!!!” I shout across the board. The boy flinches at my voice.
I gesture to him to come to me.
He jocks toward me, warily.
“Aye, Miss?” His eyes switch between me and San. I try to act intimidating but he obviously is scared of the man behind my back.
“I have something to ask you. Why did you choose this lovely shirt for me?” I point at the hideous shirt I’m wearing.
“Oh, I’m glad you like it. I think it’s ugly.” He says innocently but that adds fuel into my rage.
“If you think it’s ugly then why did you pick it?” I raise my voice, crossing arms.
“Well, I tried to find a shirt that matches your eyes color?” He blinks at me, not knowing why I’m so worked up.
“Then why Aurora got a white dress? She doesn’t have white pupil, does she?”
“Umm no. But I think she would look like a fairy in that dress.” He says shyly, a red blush creeps on his small face.
Indeed, the effect from female lead beauty.
I huff in annoyance.
“Just give me a new cloth.” I’ll let it slip this time. It’s not cool to get angry at a young boy who has a crush.
“Why? Didn’t you just say you like it?” Jack asks.
“When did I say I like it?”
“You said it was lovely.”
“That was sarcasm. Sarcasm!”
A deep chuckle can be heard behind my back. Goosebumps rise on my neck.
Jack and I stop bickering instantly and turn to stare at the man.
San chuckles, I gotta say he sounds so attractive but this isn’t a time to compliment him.
He saunters toward me. His cold fingers grab my chin and bring my face close to him.
I gasp at his weird action.
What’s he trying to do?
Our faces are so close that I notice how pale his face is. How can someone in the ship have such pale skin? My brows knit together when I also notice fading big and small scars on his face. Since he’s a combatant, he must’ve been involved in many fights.
Then my eyes travel to his pitch black eyes that are covered by black and red bangs.
His eyes are so lifeless that I feel like I’m into a void of black space with no way out.
My breath hitch in my throat.
Is the storm coming? Why does the ship shake violently? Oh, that actually my legs.
“Jack, you made a mistake...” He slowly says with his (creepily) attractive raspy voice.
Jack in my peripheral view has gone rigid.
“A..Aye..Sir,” Jack strutters when San calls his name.
“Her eyes are aquamarine blue.. like an ocean, beautiful ocean...” he let the sentence trail off.
“Aye sir!, I’m getting her a new cloth!” Jack sprint away leaving me alone with the devil.
But San hand doesn’t leave my face. He’s still staring intensely at me.
“Uh, San...Can you let go?” I ask nervously. But he only chuckles in return.
Seems like the devil enjoys torturing me.
I try to move my face and swat his hand away but he has an iron grip. My face starts to get hurt from his steel tight grasp.
Someone please save me from this devil.
Like someone heard my prayer. A muscular arm grab on San’s wrist allowing me to break free. I breathe the air to fill my dry lungs.
I turn to look at my life savior.
“Wooyoung,” I call him in surprise.
“Go back to your room.” He says to me while glaring at San ferociously.
San gladly returns Wooyoung with a devilish smirk. They’re locked into a glaring battle. Both of them are so scary. Please don’t tell me they're gonna start to fight each other.
“Calm down guys...but I’m leaving.”
Not waiting to witness a war between the first mate and the combatant, I run back to my cabin.
When I return to my room, I keep banging my head against a wall. Aurora opened to ask me but decided against it as she saw my strange behavior.
My head is in a chaotic jumble.
Why was San acting like that?
Ohh, was it because I kicked the door and hit his face yesterday?
Then I must be in real trouble, no one ever survives the devil’s grasp.
But to think of it, he mentioned my eyes are just like a beautiful ocean.
Hehe, I can’t help but blush at the memory.
Then again, I remember his character doesn't get attracted to anyone physically. He isn't affected by female lead’s charm either. The only people who he opens up are Ateez.
And Wooyoung came to help me. He was willing to clash with San, his best friend.
Why does everyone here suddenly act out of their characters? Their characters evolve into the way that I barely recognize.
But that is the least thing I should be worrying about since the fact that I am grounded inside my room for 3 days, how am I going to survive the imprisonment?
