Description
Thirty and single never looked good. Not even on you. Sitting there in your high rise condo as you sipped on your merlot while you flipped through an old photo book. Things used to seem much more simple. Twenty two. The age where it's okay to be selfish and make mistakes. 2019 was the year everything changed. You wished you could go back so much. Fix so many mistakes. Get back that one that got away. So what happens when you wake up in your old cramp crappy apartment as your alarm clock reminded you of you next lecture?

"Hello?" I said into my cellphone as Minyoung began her hour long gossip, "Did you hear?" She asked as I untied my tight bun. I had finally ended this stupid three year trial. Who the extends a divorce for three years? I don't know. I never got married to begin with to even know why people tried so hard to hold onto something so dead.
"Hear what?" I asked as I threw my brief case on my couch as I sat down as I massaged my feet from the pain my heels caused me. The pain was piercing, but I loved those shoes. I think red bottoms were an addiction, but again, I was a high profile divorce lawyer for the rich and the famous. So as I massaged the arch of my foot, I closed my eyes in relief as I undid the knots before my finger stopped at the words I heard.
"Sehun's getting married."
My lips parted softly as I bit my lip. Sehun? I hadn't heard that name in years. The last I heard of him was at our alumni party two years ago. Most sucsessful alumni of our class. CEO of some tech company that would probably confuse me if you tried to explain it.
Taking a deep breath, I let go of my foot and sat back on my couch, "Oh, really?" I asked as she hummed a, "Mhm, I heard it's an arrange marriage. Her family is like old money loaded while he's new money loaded." She said as I nodded, "So what? He agreed to marry her for money?" I asked as I couldn't believe I was feeding into her gossip, but I couldn’t stop the beating in my chest.
"What else would Sehun marry her for? Have you ever seen this man try to love someone? I remember when he dumped you on his birthday." She said as I could feel my stomach drop from the memory.
Sitting in my small apartment with a pointed party hat on my head, I waited patiently for my boyfriend. The small little cake that cost my a fraction of my paycheck laid on the table. The watch I had purchased him for his birthday laid there next to it wrapped in a red bow. Today was Sehun's twenty third birthday and the day I would finally tell him that I loved him.
Sehun had been my boyfriend for 10 months now. Although he could be hot headed at times, I loved him so much for what he was. He was driven and hard working. He was perfect to me.
So as I heard the knocking on the door, I jumped up and opened the door as Sehun stood there. His tall figure walking into my apartment as he looked down at the cake. Smiling behind him, I held onto his arm, "Surprise." I whispered as he bit his lip as I was sure he was shocked from my surprise. "You shouldn't have." He said softly as I smiled. "But I did." I replied as he nodded and pulled his arm away.
"You really shouldn't have." He repeated as I looked at him confused as the anger engulfed his face. "What?" Was all I could managed as he shook his head at me and said the words I would never forget,
"It's a little too late to act like you love me now."
Minyoung hadn't known because Sehun was tight lipped like that. He never gossiped about me although others gossiped of the many women he had after me. No one ever mentioned how I had treated him as an after thought. How I never put him first. How school and work were above dates and him.
"Yeah."
The only thing I could say back as an instant wave of regret washed over me.
