Misguided

Description

Once upon a time the stories of the Underworld were just that, stories. I never understood why anyone would willingly go into the depths of Hell, even if it was to visit a loved one. Human lives are already far too short, why make them any shorter?

Two years ago I got my answer. I watched the flames engulf the apartment complex I lived in, my family still inside. Everyone who lived above the 20th floor didn't make it out. My family lived on the 23rd floor....

Foreword

For those who look hard enough even the gate to hell can be found. And like many legends over the course of history have described, the gate is guarded. Although not by a three headed dog like some of the stories claim. Standing at the gate is creature, assumed to be in the form of a man, simply known as The Guide.

His rules for entertaining into the Underworld are as follows:

#1: In exchange for one trip into the Underworld, one year of the traveller’s life must be forfeited at entry to The Guide. There is no limit to the number of trips one can take, but individuals will not know how many years they have and are subtracting from.

#2: Once a traveller runs out of years to forfeit, the will no longer be allowed access to the Underworld, even when they themselves die. This rule does not apply to those with years left at the time of death.

#3: By stepping into the Underworld the gates to Heaven are now closed to the individual.

#4: Those who are not allowed into Heaven or the Underworld will become trapped in the living world, referred to as ghosts by humans and forsaken by the supernatural world, there is no escape from this inbetween realm.

#5: Travellers must be accompanied by The Guide at all times, those who wander will have to deal with the consequences of the danger they have placed upon themselves.
