FINAL
My Sister's FavoriteKrystal was laying on top of her sleeping tomboy girlfriend, well they weren’t official but they did everything couples usually did. She was listening to her soft heartbeats, but they never could compare. She shut her eyes tightly, counting backwards slowly, trying to get unwanted memories out of her mind. It failed, she always failed at losing a hold of those memories, because even the method of losing memories was from someone she was trying to forget.
“Soojung!” Krystal saw a blurry figure run towards another young girl. These youthful teens looked so familiar to her. “What’s wrong?” She saw the running girl swat down and wipe away the other girl’s tears.
Soojung nodded her head side to side, not being capable to speak, but she did lean her body into the other girl.
“Another bad day Soojung?” The girl combed Soojung’s hair soothingly, whispering so gently into her ear, hoping her words could help calm down the crying girl. “Whenever I want to forget my bad memories I count down backwards. It really works, why don’t you try it?”
“O-out lo-loud?” Soojung shyly asked, Krystal could faintly see a shade of pink across her cheeks.
“I think you can do it in your head.” The other girl beamed a bright smile. Soojung leaned further into her friend and closed her eyes.
10. 9. 8. 7. She felt her heart calm down, it seemed like her mind was too focused on the numbers. 6. 5. 4. Krystal saw the other girl slowly turn her head towards her. 3. 2. Her eyes focused on those familiar features. One.
“S-sulli!” Krystal screamed as she opened her eyes. She looked around and noticed that she was in her room and not at the park watching those girls. She also noticed that she was now alone.
“Look you can’t stay for dinner. We have a guest!” Krystal could hear her sister yelling at someone on the other side of her room door and she had an idea of who it could’ve been.
“But Krystal invited me over.” She sighed and made her way towards her door, opening it slightly and seeing Amber and Jessica at each others neck again. “There you are Krys, can you tell your sister to let me stay for dinner!”
“Jess-“
“No. We have company so she can just eat out for the night.”
“I don’t remember us inviting someone over though.” Krystal thought about all the possibilities on who the guest could be. “But Jess, just let Amber join us—“
“Yeah, Jess, let me join. Plus, I am your sister’s girlfriend.” Krystal was about to walk down the stairs but stopped as soon as she heard what Amber labeled herself.
She swore they talked about this topic before, that they were more than friends but not lovers. She wasn’t emotionally ready to invest herself in someone else, but Amber was the ray of sunshine she needed in her life. But it wasn’t enough. Krystal knew Jessica was waiting for her to say something, but her little day dream from before made her feel exhausted. She just combed out her hair and lazily made her way downstairs. At the end of the steps, she saw an unfamiliar person. Their back was facing towards her. They were talking to Tiffany, but her heart felt heavy the closer she got to them.
“Oh, Krystal, right on time!” She faced Tiffany, who called out her name. She could tell how tense the mysterious got from their body posture. The person slowly turned around and it felt like time had slowed down. Krystal stopped mid-way from coming towards them. The smile on her face dropping. Her heart losing control. Her body itching to run towards them. Her eyes glistening with possible tears.
“Ssul…” The said girl shyly scratched the back of her neck as she closed . Krystal felt good that she could still leave the other girl breathless.
“Soojung…” Both couldn’t let their eyes tear away from each other. They didn’t notice that Tiffany wasn’t there anymore as she was too busy fangirling with her camera, making sure to capture this moment to show Jessica later on. “How have you been?” Sulli gave Krystal her signature eye smile, one that left Krystal gasping for air. It took them back to memory lane.
Krystal and Jessica always had strict parents, so when prom came around, their father didn’t want them going with boys. Luckily, Krystal was dating Sulli – a girl. So when Krystal walked down the stairs, in her sparkling gown looking like royalty, she felt everything freeze. At the bottom of the staircase was Sulli, in a suit with her hair all curly – just like her personality. A smile never left either of their faces. They were lost in their own planet as her mother was busy pushing the duo together for some traditional pictures. She laughed when her father was trying to give Sulli the keep-my-daughter-safe speech. He was trying to act all tough, even though deep down he was joking. Sulli grabbed her hand, making them escape the flashing lights and distractions.
“Sorry that you had to deal with that.” Soojung shyly said, facing the car window.
“It’s okay. I thought it was cute, you are daddy’s little girl.” Sulli threw her head back, laughing along with Krystal.
They danced all night, whether it be a slow song or upbeat, they kept their distance short and their rhythm slow. Sulli looked into Krystal’s bright eyes. A smile formed on her lips, seeing through her soul. How lucky she was to see through Krystal’s cold wall. The first moment she laid her eyes on the other girl, she knew they could never be friends only.
Krystal grew tired of the humid atmosphere and Sulli could only agree. They ran out and got back into Sulli’s jeep.
“Home?” Sulli asked as she slowly reversed out from their parking spot.
“It’s too early. I want to spend more time with you—” Krystal felt the car stop and a familiar pair of lips connected with her own. Her thoughts out the window. Her mind and soul cloud high.
“S-sorry I..” Sulli pulled away and continued to drive out from the parking lot, being thankful that the streets are empty. Krystal could only giggle at Sulli’s shy actions.
“Ssul you’ve kissed me before, you do know that right?” Her hands playing with Sulli’s hair. Krystal’s cold fingers making contact with Sulli’s heated cheeks. She pinched them, going back to a silly atmosphere.
“Oh yeah, almost forgot!” Sulli going back to her semi-cocky personality. “You couldn’t get your hands off of me the first time we kissed. I don’t blame you.” She laughed out loud when Krystal smacked her shoulder.
“Prom was so boring, but I’m lucky you were my date.” Krystal leaned her head more towards Sulli, staring deeply at the girl who was so focused on driving.
