Chapter 4

甘い Rock & Roll

Chapter 4

Donghae looked at the time on his phone.

It was exactly ten in the morning. He waited at the promised place where he and Hyukjae will meet for their date.

Remembering it that way, Donghae started to feel nervous.

He finally gained a chance to actually spend more time with Hyukjae, and just Hyukjae alone. Learn to get to know the drummer even more. Hyukjae’s reactions had been a lot more positive than Donghae had initially guessed too, so he’s hoping for a successful first date, at least.

He thought about it a lot the night before. How he should act, what they should do. He thought about asking Amber for advice, but he didn’t know if it’s okay to tell her anything yet, when nothing was set on stone. Amber might tell Henry, after all—it was quite possible seeing their quickly budding relationship, she did seemed to spend the night texting with the keyboard player. So instead of telling her, Donghae created an excuse about having another appointment in campus instead for the day.

In the end, he could only think of a solution himself. Donghae didn’t want to advance too quickly, in fear of scaring Hyukjae away. But at the same time, he didn’t want to fall into the friendzone either. He thought long and hard about it, whether if he should act more flirty or reserved—which would Hyukjae like more? Should he pick a more couple-y activity to do?

Does Hyukjae even consider this as a date too?

But in the end, he decided to not over think it. To be honest, detailed plannings were never his forte anyway. He was one to go with the flow more, follow what felt right to do. Donghae decided that he was just going to be his usual self, and enjoy the day with Hyukjae—however it might be.

The sound of hasty footsteps broke his reverie. Donghae then spotted the copper haired drummer approaching him.

“Hey,” Hyukjae greeted after he arrived. A small smile on his plump lips, even though his breath seemed slightly heavier after a jog. “I’m sorry, did you wait long?”

Donghae shook his head and smiled back. “Hi. No, I just arrived too, Hyukjae-ssi.”

“That’s a relief.” Hyukjae sent him a slightly nervous glance. “Mm, I think you can drop the –ssi now. We should be past the point of formality, right?”

Donghae looked at him, brown eyes glinting with hope. “Is it really okay?”

“Sure, as long as you alow me to call you Donghae, too,” Hyukjae spoke carefully. Then he looked away, and Donghae realized in awe the hint of shyness enveloping the drummer. “B-besides … We’re on a date … aren’t we?”

A brief pause, as Donghae was stunned, processing the words.

He does think of this as a date ...

Confused and curious at the sudden silence, Hyukjae glanced back at Donghae from the corner of his eyes, only to properly look at him because the glint of excitement and glee in his brown eyes were too captivating to miss.

“Yes!” The brunet answered, thin lips stretched into a smile. “Okay, Hyukjae.”

Hyukjae couldn’t help but grin back at him. “Good. Let’s go?”

At Donghae’s nod, they both entered the mall that was just steps away from their meeting place. As they walked, Donghae took the time to properly check Hyukjae out—discreetly, of course—and he quite liked the drummer in a more casual and relaxed outfit. What he didn’t realize was Hyukjae doing the same thing.

“So … where are we going first?” Hyukjae asked.

“How about we watch a movie? There are a lot of interesting films that just came out.”

Hyukjae nodded. “Sound good. Besides, it’s still too early to go eat.”

The theaters weren’t really crowded during the earlier hours. There’s still a short queue for ticketing, though. They lined up on the queue, discussing while looking at the rows of movie posters that were put up on display.

“What do you want to watch, Donghae?” Hyukjae asked.

Donghae hummed in thought, and then his eyes fell to one of the posters. “How about Kingsman? The first one was really good.”

Hyukjae seemed surprised by his choice, and Donghae got quite worried. “Ah, or do you not like Kingsman? Have you watched the first one?”

“No, no!” Hyukjae quickly denied. “I did watch the first one, and I really liked it too. It’s just … I didn’t think that you would pick Kingsman. I mean, we’re on a date so I thought that you’ll pick a romance movie or something …”

Donghae laughed. “I’m not really one to watch every single romance movie. Although I have to admit, I love classics like Titanic or The Notebook.” Donghae rubbed his nape shyly. “Also, there seems to be no interesting romance movie right now, and I’m currently feeling more like something fun, action-comedy, for example.”

Hyukjae still looked a bit surprised, but then his eyes brightened, followed by a smile. “Me too,” he whispered with a hint of fascination. “Well, I guess we’re watching Kingsman.”

They bought the tickets, paying for themselves. Once again, Hyukjae looked a bit awkward, but didn’t say anything. The two of them entered the theater and walked towards the middle section, where their designated seats were. They chatted a bit while waiting for the commercials to pass, and turned back to the screen when the film started, enjoying the movie.

.::~*~::.

“This movie was way more explicit than the first one,” Donghae commented with a chuckle as soon as they stepped out of the theater.

“I still don’t understand how they managed to make a pretty gore-y moment into very comedic. It’s very twisted, but it works in a way.” Hyukjae’s enthusiasm wasn’t any less than Donghae’s.

“But that’s exactly the point of Kingsman!”

“You’re right.” Hyukjae nodded. “Still, I feel that I liked the first movie better than this one. The satirical jokes felt a little bit overdone in this one.”

“I feel so too. However, it could probably just be my biasness. Because Roxanne only appeared very little, in the beginning part of the movie. I like her better than Princess Tilde.” Donghae shrugged his shoulders. “She’s prettier to me.”

Hyukjae lifted one of his brows. “Oh. So you noticed them too?”

Donghae looked back at him in confusion. “Hm? What do you mean?” As they walked away from the cinema without aim, he continued. “By the way, I’m hungry. What are we having for lunch?”

“What do you want to eat?” Hyukjae reacted to the latter question first, before explaining his other question. “No … I mean, I thought you’re only going to be noticing … like, Eggsy?”

“Eggsy is handsome, yes, but his character is quite frustrating in this movie. Although I love Taron Egerton when he’s singing. Besides, Roxanne is gorgeous and kind, I like her way more,” Donghae answered lightly. He brightened up as they got nearer to his favorite fast food restaurant. “Tacos! Let’s eat tacos.”

Hyukjae hummed to what seemed to be both answers. He didn’t say anything more, and just followed Donghae’s steps.

Donghae noticed the curiosity Hyukjae was supressing—that the drummer had actually wanted to ask more questions. But Donghae decided to drop it for now, until they found a comfortable enough seat so he could answer and explain without any discomfort. Because he had guessed that the topic would be more serious.

When they arrived at the counter, they placed their others. Hyukjae was pulling out some cash from his own wallet when Donghae did the same, paying for his own meal. Hyukjae’s hand was frozen mid-air, making Donghae look at him in question.

“What’s wrong?”

“Oh, nothing. I was going to treat you,” Hyukjae replied. In a haste, he paid his part and returned the remaining cash back into his wallet, so they won’t cause a line. They moved to the side of the counter while waiting for their orders.

“Why should you? This is just our first date, it’s fine to split. Besides, if anything I should probably be the one paying since I’m the one who asked you out,” Donghae added the last part a bit shyly.

“I guess I’m just too used to paying for my dates.” Hyukjae rubbed the back of his nape. “Sorry, I know I probably shouldn’t say this, but I really don’t know how going on a date with another guy works.”

“I see,” Donghae hummed. “Well, to me this feels like a normal date, but I don’t know. Is it really that different compared to your dates with those girls?”

“Kind of.” Hyukjae nodded in thanks when a worker gave them their food. He picked up his own tray as Donghae did the same. They walked towards an empty table. “This felt pretty new to me. However, it wasn’t unpleasant at all. To be honest, I like this kind of date more than the ones I had with the girls. Is it weird?”

Donghae chuckled and shrugged his shoulders. “What really makes me concerned is … really, what kind of girls were you dating if a date like this felt weird to you?”

“Girls that clings to my arm and makes it hard to walk, and then asks me to accompany them shopping for a couple of hours? And makes me pay for it?”

At this point, they finally took a seat and started barely nibbling on their side dishes.

“I have no idea how you survived all that,” Donghae’s laughter only got louder.

Hyukjae snorted. “Why do you think my relationships only lasts for a week or two?”

They both laughed softly, the air between them lighter and more relaxed. As they feel more comfortable, Donghae remembered the hint of curiosity Hyukjae had shown before. He decided that now was a nice enough time to address it.

“So, what did you want to ask before?”

“Huh?” Hyukjae was confused.

“Back when we were talking about the film actors and actresses,” Donghae clarified. “There’s something that you wanted to ask me, right?”

“Ah …” Hyukjae diverted his gaze, clearly thinking about how to put his thoughts in words without offending Donghae. “I was just a bit puzzled. I mean, I thought you were … gay?”

Donghae’s response was an understanding smile. “Well, if I am to speak honestly, I never really label myself.”

Hyukjae lifted a brow in question. “What do you mean?”

Donghae tilted his head slightly, palm sustaining his chin. His brunet hair gently sweeping over his forehead. “Tell me, Hyukjae. Are you … as how you will say it, straight?”

Hyukjae nodded, even though the confusion still clear in his expression, not having any idea where the conversation was going.

“If so, why did you agree to go on a date with me?”

The drummer’s single-lidded eyes widened, but he still opened his mouth to answer the question—only to close it back a second later when he realized that he didn’t know what to answer after all. He thought about it a little more, because he didn’t want to disappoint Donghae who was waiting for his answer patiently, sincerely.

“… I … don’t know. Because I wanted to try going on a date with you?” His answer sounded more like a question, to whom he didn’t know himself. “I don’t like you that way, I think. Or maybe I just haven’t? I’m not sure, but this doesn’t mean that I don’t not like you either. It’s … confusing, even to myself.”

Donghae smiled softly, pleased that Hyukjae was being very honest.

“I never really put a label on myself,” Donghae started to explain again. “From my perspective, and I'm speaking from my perspective alone, love got very little to do with gender. Say, if you asked me to chose if I prefer men or women, the question just seemed weird to me.”

The curious look in Hyukjae’s face was quite endearing to Donghae.

“My only response to such question will be to ask you back. Which men? Or women? You could offer me ‘the most handsome man in the world’ and there’s still a chance that I wouldn’t like him. On the other hand, there’s also a chance where I would like a plain looking woman. It all depends on the specific person.”

“… So you’re biual?” Hyukjae tried, still looking very lost.

“It’s not like that either.” Donghae tried to explain patiently. “If I really had to label myself, maybe the closest thing I identify as is a demiual? But I feel like labels are a hassle. I’m attracted with the people I like, it’s that simple. To take the previous conversation as an example, I am attracted to Taron Egerton, but I didn’t feel any attraction to Eggsy.”

“But they’re technically the same person.”

“The same body,” Donghae corrected. “But not the same person.”

Hyukjae didn’t immediately reply, nor did he pretend to immediately understand. “… I think I kind of get what you’re trying to convey.” Or to put in better words, he did understand the idea behind it, but he hadn’t completely understand how it works yet.

Yet Donghae appreciated that he did that much. “And again, gender doesn’t really matter. Just to put it into perspective, the possibility of me being attracted to Roxanne is more than Eggsy, but it’s still easier for Taron Egerton more than Roxanne.”

“That’s interesting,” Hyukjae hummed. “The way you perceive this still seemed a bit odd to me. But you still mention that Eggsy is handsome before, and Roxanne is pretty?”

Donghae couldn’t help but chuckle. “Hyukjae, just because I’m not attracted, doesn’t mean that I’m blind. Say, you’re straight, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t distinguish if a guy is handsome or not, right?”

“Ah, right.” Hyukjae also chuckled at the realization. “Now that you put it that way, it helped make a lot more sense. It’s very interesting … and unique.”

“Unique, huh. Different from the girls you dated before?” Donghae joked.

“Very different.” Hyukjae nodded, but with a smile. “But it’s a nice kind of different. I feel like I’ve learnt something new. Like seeing from a totally different perspective I’ve never even thought of. I like it.”

Donghae’s face reddened, he lowered his head shyly, staring at his untouched Taco.

Hyukjae watched his expression. For some reasons, the brunet kept making him feel comfortable. Although slight awkwardness were bound to happen here and there, but it wasn’t because of a bad tension. It was because of Hyukjae himself, who were too busy thinking about what should he be doing.

What Donghae just expressed had actually made him even more relaxed. Because in a way, Donghae just told him to not over think anything and just act like however he felt like. Act like himself, and to not push anything or be someone he wasn’t. In front of Donghae, there wasn’t any use of trying to act like something he wasn’t.

Hyukjae thought that maybe he could feel the attraction to Donghae, after all. The brunet haired male looked adorable, and there was something to him that made Hyukjae felt at ease. Sometimes, he also did these little habits that looked absolutely endearing. It felt foreign to Hyukjae. Even when with the cutest of girls, he never felt the same comfortable feeling, nor the urge to cherish like he did now.

They went back to eating, and Hyukjae felt once more that the silence was comforting, and not awkward. Sometimes, their gazes would meet and even without more words exchanged, they would still smile.

“You eat a lot,” Hyukjae chuckled after some time.

Donghae didn’t deny. “You eat as much as I do. I really love Tacos, my most favorite food other than seafood.”

“Right, almost forgot about that.” Hyukjae scrunched his nose. “As I said last time, I don’t really like seafood, but lately I love eating sushi.”

Donghae tilted his head, once again a gesture out of habit—and it did stir something inside Hyukjae. The same feeling that made him want to cherish the brunet. A feeling that grew a lot quicker than he anticipated, one that made Hyukjae feel slight fear from it.

“You don’t like seafood but you like sushi? How?”

Hyukjae shrugged. “No idea, my tongue is weird like that. But that’s just how it is, I love sushi. Although I love japchae more.”

Their conversation flowed from there. They talked about everything and nothing at the same time; hobbies, favorite food and drinks, unimportant anecdotes—anything they can think of. They had finished the side fries that they had ordered extra when the topic changes into something more serious.

“I almost became a singer.”

Donghae’s story surprised Hyukjae. “Oh?”

“Mhm. When I was little, I loved to sing for my dad, and he loved it too. If I thought about it now, I think it was the fact that I made my dad happy was the reason why I love singing that much. During high school, I ended up sending a video recording of me singing for an audition to one of the big agencies, and somehow was accepted as a trainee.”

He paused, his eyes slightly went dull. “But then, my dad got ill. My mother, my brother Donghwa and I cared for him with all our hearts. However, it wasn’t enough. We couldn’t safe him. It really was impossible to fight against cancer when you found out about it too late.”

Hyukjae felt his breath got caught in his throat, his gaze also saddening when noticing the pain hidden in Donghae’s eyes, still visible despite the effort. A scar that perhaps had healed, but will forever leave an etch that won’t disappear. Hyukjae reached out his hand to grasp Donghae’s that was laid on the table. Their gazes met, and Donghae smiled slightly in reassurance, feeling touched by the concern in Hyukjae’s eyes.

“At that time, I fell into depression. My mother and Donghwa managed to help push me enough to finish high school. But after that was done, I locked myself alone completely. The offer to become a trainee was forgotten just like that. I was too depressed to do anything—let alone continuing to college, I was also unable to do basic daily tasks.” Donghae laughed lowly, it sounded bitter.

“But I’m okay now. Eventually, I came to the realization that my dad won’t be happy if he saw me like that. So I slowly pick myself back up. I helped my mother by taking up several part time jobs. One day, I was helping the children at the daycare I was working at to set up a play, and I found a new dream, one I could call my own.”

“Being an actor?” Hyukjae guessed.

Donghae shook his head, the sadness gone, smiling brightly once again. “No, I actually dislike being the center of attention. I wanted to be a writer—for movies, plays, dramas, those sorts of stuff. I love seeing how my story come alive through the actors performing them. With this new dream, I decided to study in Seoul, even when several years late.”

Hyukjae stared at Donghae with admiration. “You’re really awesome, Donghae.”

Donghae flushed a little, still not forgetting to thank him.

“Compared to you, my life was pretty … normal. I was a normal student in school, my family was also normal with both my parents and Sora-noona, my elder sister that is now married. I was pretty artistic since young, liking music and dance, thus I took arts in college. Then I met Siwon, Kyuhyun, Henry, and we decided to form the band. I graduated, soon after getting a job I loved too. From there I bought a small apartment for myself.”

“You have another job?” Donghae asked.

Hyukjae chuckled. “Lumière isn’t really a band that provides enough money for us to live off of, Donghae. It’s just a hobby. So yes, I do have a job.”

Donghae stared at him in curiosity, patiently waiting for Hyukjae to tell him about his job.

“I teach in a dance academy,” Hyukjae answered shortly.

“I didn’t know that you can dance,” Donghae said in awe.

“That’s because I don’t really say it publicly. There’s a few … sides of my life that I don’t just lay out in public like that.” Hyukjae played with Donghae’s fingers that were still in his grasp. “But yeah, I teach every Monday until Thursday, usually from nine a.m. The end hour is pretty flexible.”

“Ah … I really want to see.”

Donghae didn’t really intended to say it out loud, but it just slipped without his control.

Hyukjae smiled warmly.

“Maybe later, Donghae.” His voice sounded polite, as if holding a space for now. But there was also the sincerity and hidden promise beneath it. Donghae nodded understandingly.

“To be honest, this all felt very foreign to me. I mean, just sitting here sharing our whole life story without any restraints when we just barely know each other.”

“Hmm, I guess I’m lucky.” Donghae smiled, a signature sweet smile that stretched his thin lips tightly and didn’t show any teeth. “If you had never done something like this before, then what do you usually do on a date?”

“Like I’ve been saying before, shopping.” Hyukjae waved an arm lazily. “I date to fill in the boredom, yet ironically sometimes I wish I could just go home instead, or at least go to the studio for practice.”

“Weren’t the girls you date Lumière fans?” Donghae asked. “Why didn’t you just ask them to accompany you practice?”

“It’s because they were Lumière fans …” Hyukjae’s voice faded slowly, until it could barely be heard. Along with it, his smile looked bitter, making Donghae stare at him in concern.

Hyukjae didn’t finish his sentence, no. He looked away, as if wanting the topic to quickly change. The hand that was holding Donghae’s slowly loosened. But before he could completely let go, Donghae grasped his hand back, tightly.

“I want to see you play the drums in the studio,” Donghae said.

“Huh?” Hyukjae looked at him with a hint of surprise. “You want to go to the studio with me? But the others won’t be there. Most of our schedules are full other than the day of performances.”

Once again, Donghae tilted his head slightly. “Why will that be a problem?”

“… No, I just thought that …”

“Then, let’s go?”

If there was any hesitance left in Hyukjae, it was pushed away when he saw the sweet smile on Donghae’s lips. Without realizing it, the drummer nodded, unable to deny the brunet of his wish.

.::~*~::.

Donghae had been to the place just a week ago, but he didn’t enter their practice room. And so, without realizing it, he gasped in admiration when he entered the room.

The flooring was covered in a soft carpet, with sound proof walls and foam paddings on certain area to reduce bounce. The side of the room where the door is located had a long sofa that looked even softer than the one in the living room. But what pulled Donghae’s attention the most was the different instruments in the room. Starting from a bass guitar, three different guitars both acoustic and electric, a keyboard, a drum set, and even more interestingly, a piano. Near each of the instruments were stationed recording mics that looked expensive.

On the other side of the room, it wasn’t a full wall—instead a half wall with thick glass panel on the upper half of it. Across it was another room that had all the needed equipments for recording. There was a huge long table with sound system equipments and mixers on it, also a few chairs.

“This is our practice room, doubling as our recording booth too,” Hyukjae explained while closing the door behind them. “Moving the instruments around could be a hassle, so we just decided to make it a double purpose room.”

“Why is there so many guitars? And also a piano?” Donghae asked.

“Henry actually loved playing the piano more than the keyboard. But of course it’s impossible for performances, and the sound wouldn’t match either. That’s why he used the keyboard for performances and recording, but he usually liked to use the piano when composing a new song.” Hyukjae sat on the drummer seat. “For the guitar, aside from the electric guitar we also kept two acoustic guitars. But those are rarely used for performances.”

“Who else can play the guitar?” Donghae took one as he speaks, then sitting on the sofa.

“Kyuhyun also plays the guitar, and sometimes used it during out performance. Henry could also play, even though he doesn’t like it as much. But he really loves the violin. He never leaves his violin here though, because he treasures ‘her’ too much,” Hyukjae chuckled.

“Hmm,” Donghae hummed. He strummed the guitar, pleased when knowing that it was already tuned perfectly.

Hyukjae stared at him in awe. “You can play the guitar too?”

Donghae smiled, starting to play a Lumière song and humming softly to the tune, before pausing and looking at Hyukjae. “I learned to play it for a bit.”

“So you can sing and play the guitar. That’s cheating, Donghae. You’re more talented than I am,” Hyukjae accused jokingly.

“But you can write songs,” Donghae denied, trying to suppress his shyness.

Hyukjae lifted one of his brows. “Don’t you like to write drama scripts?”

“It’s different from writing a song. I bet writing songs are harder.”

Hyukjae suddenly stood up, walking towards the sofa and picking up a stack of paper from the small shelf beside it. He then sat next to Donghae. “Writing songs isn’t as hard as you imagined it to be.”

“That’s …”

“Yeah, Lumière’s sheet musics,” Hyukjae answered with a smile.

“I didn’t realize that you have these many songs.” Donghae picked up a few of the papers, enthusiastically examining each one of them.

“That one was quite popular among our fans,” Hyukjae remarked after seeing the paper Donghae was looking at. “U.”

“I quite liked that one, even though it’s not exactly my favorite,” Donghae commented.

“Hm? Then which song is your favorite?”

Donghae shifted through the papers one by one, looking at a lot of songs he likes, but still not the one he loves most. Until finally, he found the one he had been looking for.

“This one,” Donghae whispered with a dreamy voice and a soft smile on his lips. “A Short Journey. This song is my favorite.”

“A Short Journey?” Donghae watched how Hyukjae’s single-lidded eyes widened.

“Yes. Is something wrong?”

“No, no … It’s just that …” Hyukjae took the music sheet from Donghae’s hand, looking at it nostalgicly. “This was the only song that I made myself entirely. The melody and composition, the lyrics, everything was my own work, without a single help from Henry.”

This time, Donghae was the one surprised. “Really?”

“Yeah.” Hyukjae nodded. “I made this song when Sora-noona was going to study abroad.” Hyukjae rubbed his nape shyly. “I was really close with her, and at that time I felt pretty sad.”

Donghae was silent for a while.

What kind of coincidence is this?

The song that signified the moment when he fell for Hyukjae was a song that Hyukjae made himself. It was as if Hyukjae really meant to conquer his heart. Sly—Hyukjae is so sly.

“Why do you love this song the most?”

The question snapped Donghae back from his own thoughts. Staring into those single-lidded eyes, Donghae felt it once more. The feeling that rushed through him, unable to be hold back. If Donghae had a low self restraint, maybe he would’ve confessed his love for Hyukjae right there and then. But thankfully, his logical side was still intact.

Donghae forced a small smile as he said, “I’ll tell you next time.”

That afternoon, they spend some time together very comfortably. They looked through a few more songs, and Hyukjae even took time to teach Donghae how to play the drum. Many laughter resounded in the room. At one moment, Hyukjae even thought that it was the best date he had ever experienced.

It was when they were about to go home that a problem occurred.

“… It’s raining.” Hyukjae stood by the door, staring at the grey sky and the falling droplets of water.

“It’s not raining that hard, it should be okay.” Donghae shrugged nonchalantly.

“Where do you live? I live nearby, it’ll be easy for me to just run.”

“I just need to reach the subway station, it should be fine from there.” Donghae glanced at the sky once more.

“That’s further away. We don’t keep any umbrellas–”

Hyukjae didn’t get to finish his sentence when a bright flash of lightning caught their eyes. Hyukjae anticipated the loud thunder that was going to come after, closing one of his ears. He then glanced at Donghae, staring in confusion when the brunet seemed to count something with his fingers.

The loud thunder boomed. Hyukjae stared at Donghae in worry. “Or do you want to spend the night in my apartment? It would be dangerous to just run through if there’s many thunders.”

“four kilometers,” Donghae mumbled softly.

“Huh?”

“The thunder just now was around four kilometers away. So it should be far enough.” Donghae smiled after his short explanation.

Hyukjae hadn’t understand. “How do you know?”

“The speed of sound is around 340 meters per second, while the speed of light is very fast it felt immediate. After the flash of lightning we saw, there’s a delay of around twelve seconds until the moment we heard the hunder. We just need to multiply it, and thus we can deduct that the thunder is a little over four kilometers away,” Donghae explained in detail, and shrugged once more. “When I was little, I hated thunders. That’s why Donghwa-hyung thought me this. After knowing that the thunders were far, I wasn’t afraid anymore.”

“Ah …” Hyukjae mumbled. “Right, I forgot that the sound and light were actually supposed to happen at the same time. That’s pretty interesting.”

“Interesting, right?” Donghae chuckled. “They were supposed to happen at the exact same moment, but we experienced it differently. We saw the light first, and then the sound followed it.”

“But anyway, the thunder was far enough and the rain isn’t so bad. I’ll be fine, Hyukjae.”

Hyukjae still seemed hesitant, but realized there’s nothing he could do. So he said his goodbyes, before Donghae rushed through the rain first.

His first date with Donghae … was quite fun.

He watched Donghae’s back, slowly getting more obscured from his view, swallowed by the rain. He also saw a flash of lightning, and silently counted in his mind.

One, two, three …

At the count of five, Donghae’s back view disappeared, yet the thunder still wasn’t heard. Hyukjae exhaled in relief, and decided to walk back home himself.

So many implied metaphors that I slipped in that doesn't really make any sense yet, at least until the next chapter lol.
Was I feeling mellow when I first wrote this or what?

Anyway! I think I need to give a bit context. To those wondering why are they watching Kingsman: The Golden Circle, it's because this was originally written around that time the movie aired. So yeah. And yes, I'm still bitter they killed off Roxanne.

So, I hope you guys enjoyed Eunhae's first date! Although nothing really romance-y happened yet. They will have more dates to come, don't worry.

Always thankful for all and any support! Thank you guys <3
