Memories of You

Never Forget

Jonghyun glanced at me, and with a faint smile he asked, “What will you do if I leave?”

I turned at him, surprised. But I smiled back and reluctantly responded to his question, “…I’d visit you wherever you were.”

Silence.

The air was lightly humid and moist, just as it always was during summer. We were seated by the stairs that led down to the Han River. And from where we sat, we could see that the current was slow and gentle. As it always was when we were here. For a moment, I let the sound of the river consume me, allowed it to pull me into its trance. I blinked the next and Jonghyun spoke again.

“What if it’s somewhere you can’t visit?”

Silence.

I glanced over at the blonde boy next to me, curious to know where the conversation was leading towards. But I shrugged it off sooner than I expected. Then, I turned back at the flow of the water. Why does Jonghyun ever ask any question anyway? I thought to myself, but was hopeful that somehow it had escaped my lips and he had heard it. There was silence, though. So I bit the bottom of my lip, an odd feeling in my stomach telling me something wasn’t right. Still, in the midst of fear and worry; assuming where this would all lead, I comfort my friend with words at the tip of my tongue,

“I’ll revisit my memories of you in my heart.”

From the corner of my eye, I saw as Jonghyun turned his gaze towards me, and without a doubt, I saw an angel smiling at me.
