Stress Merchant
21st Century Tales of 4th Grade Dumb DumbsJungkook yawned miserably as he entered the empty classroom, slumping his way towards the back row.
“Kook did you do the homework?”
Throwing his bag on the desk he rubbed his eyes to see a panic stricken boy with lopsided glasses dangling off his nose. Guess it wasn’t empty after all.
“Oh morning Seokjin.”
“Yeah yeah so homework?”
Jungkook opened his books. “We had homework?”
Seokjin made an ill-suffering noise. Jungkook ripped a piece of paper and started folding it in half. Jungkook had never been this early for class. It was half past eight. At this point in time, he could’ve been watching the ultimate dual of Pokémon. But his mum had caught him playing video games all night when he was meant to have folded the laundry. That had caused her to go on a tangent about all the things he had done wrong this entire year. It was only January. What on earth did she mean? His older brother was right. Their mother had her in a twist. He didn’t know what that meant but it sounded about right. Disgruntled his folded paper emerged into a flimsy little aeroplane. He chucked it just as a girl in a bright yellow coat emerged from the entrance rubbing her forehead.
“Hey watch it.” Seulgi sniped taking her seat two rows in front of Jungkook.
Jungkook ripped another page from his book in response.
“Seulgi did you do the homework?” Seokjin rushed forwards causing his glasses to nosedive first thing onto the floor.
“Here,” Seulgi picked them up wiping the lens carefully at the edge of her sleeves.
“Thanks.” Seokjin dumped them back on blinking quite rapidly. “So, homework?”
“Do you need to copy?”
Seokjin gasped. “Thought you’d never ask!”
Jungkook popped a freshly bought packet of ‘5’ gum into his mouth. Shaking his head he began to chew loudly. Anything to drown the oversensitive elephant in their room.
Finishing his second aeroplane with slight adjustments to the wings, he hurled it once more hitting squarely on the back of Seulgi’s neck this time.
“Argh Jeon Jungkook!”
Jungkook laughed. Her reactions were regrettably the funniest thing since his brother had peed in his pants after seeing the cockroach Jungkook had planted in his bed no less than few weeks ago.
He watched as she started collecting his discarded aeroplanes around her. “Mrs. Lee will hear about this”.
“Are you dead trying to be Draco Malfoy?” He knew she was a bookworm and an avid Harry Potter fan, but did she really reference the line of the sleaziest bum head out of all characters? Jungkook blew hard on his bubble gum scoffing at the idea.
Before Seulgi could tackle his response, Seokjin rose from his desk like a deranged Egyptian mummy that had just woke from its thousand years of slumber.
“Um Seulgi? Didn’t you say you did the homework?” His voice wobbled.
Seulgi forced herself to calm down before turning back to Seokjin. “Yes,” she replied rather irritably. “It’s all there.”
“MORNING EVERYONE!”
No one paid attention to Namjoon as he walked in wearing a pair of mismatching socks and an overturned shirt.
“I beg to differ, but it really isn’t...” Seokjin argued passionately for someone who’s lifeline at the moment depended on others’ charity in their willingness to donate homework.
Seulgi huffed. Her hands thumped the table whilst her chair screeched. Approaching Seokjin, Jungkook’s timing was impeccable. His third paper aeroplane hit her straight in the nose. Bullseye.
“THAT’S IT!”
Jungkook darted from his desk. Might he add… cackling as he did so.
Seulgi threw down her yellow coat as she thundered after him weaving in and out of tables.
