one last time

Description

Sometimes, traveling to the ends of the Earth in a stuffy rental van with your best friends is all you really need in life, especially when the world is going to hell on a silver platter.

Or rather impending solar flares and dangerous radiation levels. 

Technicalities aside, they're going to have the roadtrip of a lifetime, if it's the last thing they do.

Alternatively, the one where Junmyeon wants to see the ocean one last time, Chanyeol tries to be romantic, Kyungsoo is so over it (into it), Baekhyun and Jongdae compete over shotgun, and she's more confused than she's ever been. Also, she despises driving, but she's the only one with a license aside from Junmyeon, so, obviously, her friends decide that calls for a road trip. She thinks it's a shame that she'll spend her last days as a poorly paid taxi driver.

 

Foreword

They leave the television muted, the blue light flickering through the darkness, casting shadows along his jaw, over her hand. They're in an empty hotel, in an abandoned town, in a bed too small to fit all of them, and she whispers, "Do you think we should follow the rumors and head to the bunkers up north?"

"We'd never make it." He whispers. "It might not even be real."

Resignation lingers between them. 

She twists a piece of loose thread around her finger, tightening until it cuts off circulation. "We could try."

He lets out a shaky breath. She feels it against her cheek.

She clutches at the pillow under her head, "Junmyeon...He wants to be near the ocean. We can drive the coast up." She takes a deep breath, "Besides, we have to drop off Tinder Boo."

(She can practically see the fondness in his eyes whenever he looked at Tinder Boo and she's vaguely confused by the need to smile into her pillow, the way her heart swells in her chest at the memory.)

There's a pause before he says, softly, carefully, "Okay."

 

 

 

 

Road trip au with an angsty twist because who am I without sprinkling a little angst over everything (insert salt bae meme here)! I asked on my feed which exo member yall wanted to star in this fic and i got a 50/50 baekhyun vs jongdae (my vote for bbh counts in my head sjdbksjdjz) so i decided it! WHY not both lol!!! here's my attempt at a love triangle thing!

additional notes: kyungsoo has a twin trans sister named kyungri, other members of exo will be mentioned/there at some points but i mostly want this to be a chinguline focused fic featuring our resident Dad Suho, heed the tragedy/ANGST warning, radiation = horror/sickness/bodily horror at certain parts, sad backstories and mentions of suicidal thoughts, parental neglect, child abuse, homophobia, and transphobia, violence, blood, mentions of cannibalism yikes, there is a moment of dialogue where person A tries to trigger suicidal thoughts it's short but it is there i will put a warning in that chapter!

Chapter 3: *grabs writer's hands and proceeds to look at them in the eye* you.... you have talend, I took all my day reading this, you managed to make me attached to every character portrayed here.... and can't say this is my confort fic because this bringed out A LOT of emotions, but I will never deny that your stories does leave me with such deep impressions, thank you for this great work, seriously, hope you are doing well.

by the way this was released on 2017 girl, its 2021 and the pandemic breakout and quarentine thing really did fit after all huh, at least we know south kr have better control over health care, very random i know, I will take my leave, again thank so much for writing.

the way this has become my comfort fic over the years i just keep coming back to it ;-; so i was reading this zombie apocalypse au on tumblr featuring dreamies 00 liner and it instantly reminded me of this fic because of the bond and friendship and i started tearing up legit (because this fic is everything) hhhhnggg and im here to relive the pain once again :")

Chapter 3: i'm so sad and hurt like physically HURT because my heart just cant take this. It's crazy that a story can make me feel a heartbreak like this. PAIN. Somehow the hopeful ending just make it worse like ITS TOO SAD

Chapter 3: I really so badly want to know your address so I can mail you the buckets of tears I cried during that last part. You have brought anguish to my life in less than 30 mins. Heheh but honestly speaking this is the best story I’ve ever read. I found myself not wanting to stop reading so many times. The nostalgic and fulfilling aura of the whole story really deciphers the true meaning of friendship. The change of atmosphere through out the story is absolutely impeccable (i felt like I was on a rollercoaster of emotions). The storyline is well planned out and carefully grafted to create a very impressive piece of work. This has been in my subscriptions for a while and tbh it was because I thought it was going to be a zombie apocalypse type stuff and I wasn’t as eager to read them type of stuff. But this turned out to be a story about how friendship can give you sanity even in the most tangible moments and I really like stories with a deep meaning like that. I’m happy I read this and I’m so grateful you decided to pursue writing. It’s a huge talent to make writing this good :))))))))

Please let them grow old together idk its been ten years or more they hve to reunited. One last time is the best story (one shot) I had ever read here at aff. And to say that I read stories everyday, different stories each day. I especially love the part that when you write, it's so detailed and I get caught up in it. There are so many parts that I specially love in this one shot, the part of when they were kidnapped, when they met up with Tinder Boo (the name is stuck in my head; I love it), whenever the tension rises between Baek, Chen and the oc. I couldn't list them all, but author, know that you made a really good story (this is in italic for emphasis) and I really think that this should be more known- a star beside the title would be great. Good job, author! ^_^ I'll be off reading your other one shots.
