My Best Friend's a Wingman

I owe everyone an overdue apology and a thank you.

I want to sincerely apologize for not continuing this story.

A lot of things have happened over the last two years, whether they were good or bad, I think I have changed in different ways compared to the person I was when I started this story. I wrote this story when I was 18, and now I'm 21. Just as you grow as a person, your passions and goals change. I'm no longer the person who can find the right words and consume a lot of books. I wish that part of me hadn't changed. I wish I didn't stop thinking about Skylar and Kai, who were characters I treasured the most at a moment in time. There was a time I envisioned myself finishing this story, and I meant it. With much regret, I am truly sorry that I had not keep up with that promise. It has been a while since I have thought about these two. And because my passions for writing have changed, I do not think that I could finish this story in the way it should have ended.

To every single reader, the new ones, the old ones, the ones who have forgotten this story, the ones who allow me to hear your thoughts, the ones who this story has lingered and resonated deeply. I am thankful that you were a big part of my life. From the bottom of my heart, I hope every single one of you are doing well. If you are not doing well, please know that I am rooting for you to overcome this winter cold. Spring will always come again, so I hope we can all meet there. :)

If you could take away from anything in this story, is to treasure your friendships. not because there’s a chance you’ll fall in love with a good-looking, best friend of yours (that wouldn't be too bad, huh?) but because society puts this unnecessary importance on romantic love. there’s not enough appreciation for platonic love when it is just as empowering and beautiful. trust me on this one.

Because I decided on leaving this story unfinished, I thought it would be the best if my readers imagined their own versions of the ending. However, sometimes there were stories I read that meant so much to me, I would have been heart broken if I didn't know what happened towards the end. I did not plan everything to the story. So to the best of my abilities, I will reveal some things that I planned for this story.

Their second date, why Sehun didn't show up was because his car broke down. The rain damaged his phone, and making it impossible for him to contact Skylar about it. Sehun was never meant to be the stereotypical, second male character. He was the sweetheart that Skylar has an infatuation with, and as she starts to date him more, she realizes how incompatiable they are. Not because he was a bad person. Because in life, there are people who just fits you just perfectly you don't have to even think about it. That person is her best friend, Kai.

I had a scene I wrote two years ago before I stopped writing. Skylar and Kai went to prom around the time she realizes her feelings she's been repressing for her best friend. They went with different dates, Kai with Irene, and Skylar with Sehun. To their realization, no other relationships were as easy as theirs. It went like this.

The balcony is discreet. The curtains before it are dingy, stirring people away from the site. Contrary to the tattered opening, once you cross over the threshold, the view before me gives the interior design a run for its money. The scent of lavender dances among the air. An absence of artificial light. The area is lit in moonlight. Stars glitter in the dark design of the night sky.

A rustling noise halts me in my steps. As I’m about to remove my heels as a sorry excuse for protective weapons, a delicate whisper of my name fills the silence. “Skye?”

It’s funny how a voice can simultaneously smoothen your tenseness and overwhelms you with rapturous nerves. “Kai.”

“I saw you making an escape from the crowd. Didn’t feel like joining the hype?”

It was hard seeing him smiling with someone else. But those truths would never slip my mouth, and I simply shake my head as soundless respond. The lighting is dim in this location, but the glow of the moon shone enough to see.

“Shouldn’t you be where Sehun is?”

“I could ask you the same..” I trail off.

“I like it here.”

“Me too.”

A woodsy breeze drops by, leaving my bare arms in chills. Kai must have sensed the trembles the wind caused, takes off his blazer, and drapes it around my shoulders. His knuckle brushes my collarbones when he tugs the jacket snuggly against me. He’s done these kinds of gestures before on nights where my cardigan did not suffice. Except things are different now.

On the outside, I put on my usual cheery facade. “Look at you, pretending to be

Chapter 32: I'm a very picky person when it comes to fanfictions on asianfanfics because of how vast this whole website is. (I think the fact that the featured section goes on for 22 or so pages says enough to prove my point.)

Descriptions need to be intriguing, characters have to be somewhat familiar and the writing needs to have the sort of charm that just can't be described by a reader or anyone for that matter. This book had all of this and more (plus the enthusiasm that I love, love seeing in authors).

It's almost 2 o'clock in the morning but I sit here writing this comment because this story has been one of the most descriptive stories I've ever come across that has actually managed to hold my interest for the sometimes intimidating length of 28 chapters.

(It also happens to be the first slow burn book that I've actually adored to what looks like no end. I usually opt for more quicker paced stories or stories where the attraction is almost oozing out from the very beginning because I'm just impatient when it comes to literature and the genre of romance.)

I get what it's like to no longer be as passionate about a project as you used to be, so even though I am upset I won't be able to read more Skailar, I completely understand why this story ended or rather I guess, didn't end the way it did.

In the end, I just wanted to say that I absolutely loved this story and the dynamics and the characters. This story has so much depth to it and I don't even know what to say so I'll just end it here.

Thank you so much for leaving this up here, and all the best for your future writing or whatever you end up doing!
