Hi everyone. You may have noticed that currently I have taken down all the chapters. This was a very difficult decision for me to make, so please bear with me.

What’s happening is that I am aiming to get Overshadowed published. This has been a goal since I began this story, which I envisioned initially as an original story. Though I am writing it as a fanfiction, because that’s just what I’ve always written, Overshadowed is more of an original at core than a fanfiction.

This was all fine until it came to my attention that apparently publishing stories online essentially destroys the chance that agents and publishers will pick them up. There are well publicized incidents of the opposite happening (eg. Throne of Glass, Fifty Shades, The Martian, etc.), so I never thought this was a problem, but those are the extremely rare exceptions.

Since only about 1/3-1/4 of Overshadowed is currently finished, I still have a chance to publish traditionally, but I have to take it down from online completely.

Now, I know the statistics. About 1% of stories end up getting published—the other 99% go into the slush pile. And most of the 1% are not the author’s first manuscript, which Overshadowed is. So the vastly likely thing that will happen is that Overshadowed will not be picked up by an agent, and it will never make it to traditional publication.
