Flying Balls

Mymin

"Not late today, huh?" Jungkook grinned widely when he found Jimin already sitting in his seat. Jimin couldn't hold back a chuckle. That dorky smile and how it transformed Jungkook's face from a breathtaking model-like beauty into the most endearing of dorks was becoming highly addicting. You never knew when to expect it and every time it happened he got the urge to hug him. It was getting harder and harder to fight it.

"All thanks to you, I guess." he laughed, joining in the joke. Jungkook laughed too.

"Hey, some of the guys are getting together for a game of soccer at lunch, come with!" Jungkook smiled widely. When did he manage to befriend a whole soccer team? Jimin shook the feeling of disappointment off before it had a chance to really get its claws into him. It was not fair to Jungkook to want him all to himself. He did seem to genuinely want him to join them, lighting a candle inside him, spreading warmth gradually throughout his body.

"Nahh, thanx but I'm not really into football." he said apologetically.

"Oh, you not the sports type?" Jungkook almost sounded disappointed, but that was probably just wishful thinking.

"No, I am, I just.. don't like the ones involving balls flying around." he explained. Jungkook started laughing. It had such a bright, tickling ring to it, almost making Jimin join in, even though he had no idea what was so funny.

"You're funny, you know that." Jungkook said as he dried the corners of his eyes. "And that's unfortunate, we could have had so much fun together." he snickered, trying hard to control himself so he wouldn't burst into another laughing fit.

"What sports do you like then?" he asked as he cleared his throat, barely managing to keep it together.

"Uhm... dancing." Jimin said hesitantly. A lot of people made fun of him for that and he didn't want Jungkook to look at him like that, like he thought he was a sissy.

"Oh, cool. Are you any good?" he asked brightly, actually interested in the answer.

He shrugged with confidence, feeling his cheeks catch on fire. He was good. He had a bucket-full of self-confidence when it came to dancing. It was about the only thing that came naturally to him. It was the only thing he was sure about in this confusing and intimidating world that sometimes seemed to want to swallow him whole.

"You have to show me your skills sometime, when do you practice?" Jungkook asked as if nothing was more normal.

"Oh I used to do contemporary dance and hip hop, but I quit." he explained, doing a poor job of hiding the regret that filled his heart every time he thought about it.

"Why?" Jungkook's eyes twinkled with curiosity. Jimin liked that he was showing him so much interest, but it made him feel self-conscious.

"My parents thought it was a waste of time, a distraction." he hung his head, although the now frozen smile was still stuck to his lips.

"From?" Jungkook just kept asking follow up questions, while Jimin was trying hard to keep his answers short so he wouldn't bore him. It was not that he didn't want to tell him his whole life story, but it wasn't really much of a story. He was more interested in Jungkook's story, but he didn't dare ask.

"Oh, they want me to be a doctor." he sighed deeply.

Jungkook snorted.

"What? You don't think I could be a doctor?!" he said defiantly. He actually thought he would make a horrible doctor himself. But still, there was the issue of maintaining at least some basic level of pride.

"Haha nahh, I'd go see ya if I had a nasty fungus infection." Jungkook chuckled heartily. "It's a shame though. I would've liked to see you perform. I have a feeling it would've been amazing." he gave him an encouraging wink, turning Jimin's insides into a butterfly haven.

"Hey! You can be my personal cheerleader at the game later!! That's kind of dancing adjacent. You can show off your skills!" Jungkook's face lit up like a light bulb, clearly thinking it was a brilliant idea.

"Okay." he giggled a little too excitedly.

“Woooo! Jungkook fighting!!” he yelled from the sidelines, not believing he was really doing this. Jungkook looked so happy and bright, horsing around with the guys. How was he so quick at making friends? The worry-knot in Jimin's gut panged, telling him he might not be fun enough for Jungkook to want to hang out with him, now that he had so many friends to choose from. He waved the thought away. If it happened, it happened. There was nothing he could do about it right now except enjoy the time he did get to spend with him.

Jungkook was amazing on the field. Natural talent. He ran the length of the field, skillfully avoiding all obstacles, becoming one with the ball. He was in pretty good shape, but his thighs were the ones to call attention to themselves. Never had he seen such massive thighs that moved so elegantly, like he was a body builder by night and ballet dancer by day. Incredible.

Suddenly, Jungkook looked right at him, his face distorted by the biggest smile yet, shouting “Woohoo!” at the top of his lungs. Jimin realized he must have scored. He had been so distracted by his thighs that he had lost track of everything else. He couldn't help but smile himself, Jungkook looked absolutely elated. “Yeah!” he shouted back, waving energetically, doing a couple of subtle dance steps.

The ball was barely out of the goal, before he scored again. But this time, he didn't just give him a shout, he was heading straight for him, running towards him at an alarming speed with both his arms raised. Instinctively, Jimin started running to greet him halfway, realizing too late that he was probably coming to give him a high-five, mistakenly going in for a tight bear hug, jumping right into his arms and burying his face into his neck. He felt so good in his arms, his scent making him dizzy. Jungkook laughed heartily, his chest shaking up and down, as he wrestled himself free. He didn't look mad at all. Jimin sighed with relief. He couldn't help but beam at him, his eyes following a drop of sweat as it the length of his neck. He wanted to become that drop.

“You're my good luck charm.” he gave him a wink before returning to the game.

Jimin wasn't an idiot, he knew what was happening. No amount of denial could hide the fact that he was falling for him. He collapsed on the bench. This was dangerous. More dangerous than he would have thought. He clung to the bench with both hands as the shock set in. His heart was beating up a storm, his lungs not knowing whether the air was coming or going.

He had suspected this for a long time now. Feared it, really. So he never had the guts to verify the hypothesis. He had had a similar episode about two years ago with a guy on the bus. The mere thought of him sent tingles down his spine. He remembered the first day he saw him. He was super dimply and out of this world handsome. As he paid the bus fare and walked further into the bus, it looked as if he was walking down a catwalk, dazzling everyone around him. Except half way through, he tripped and fell straight onto the lap of some lucky little old lady. Mortified, he crawled into the next free seat and tried to keep a low profile, but with that face, it was impossible. Jimin had felt like he was imploding as he suppressed the mountain of giggles that were accumulating inside him.

From that day on, the bus rides to and from school became the highlight of his day, his reason to get out of bed in the morning. He quickly figured out his schedule and matched it so they would always take the same bus, every day. For a short while, life didn't seem half bad. His heart was light and bouncy, keeping him afloat, making even the most dreadful tasks a joy. That was, until he showed up with his girlfriend. It was as if an eclipse had permanently overtaken the sun, damning the world into eternal darkness. He couldn't eat. He couldn't sleep. He couldn't concentrate on anything. It slowly dawned on him what this must mean, but refusing to face it, he started walking to school. He could have just avoided the buses he took, after all he knew his schedule better than the back of his hand, but just being in the bus brought back memories of him. He started pulling back from everything and everyone, and before he knew what he was doing, he had completely isolated himself.

Jungkook was probably also going to get a girlfriend, it would unlikely take very long. Most likely the prettiest girl in school, he deserved nothing less. His stomach twisted and churned at the thought. This was not good. When he was sure nobody was watching, he stood up and ran the hell out of there.
