Redemption

Chronicles of Princess Hikari

Nothing much happened in school nor back in palace, except that Ryosuke is mostly out of sight on recent days. Kasumi clings onto him most of the time and drags him for shopping anytime she's free, and at other times, he is at soccer club apparently managing the handover of leadership roles to the kouhai.

Earlier than normal today, i entered the silent class, thinking there wasn't anyone else but surprised to see someone before me. His head buried on the table within his folded arms. I stood beside him and he couldn't sense my present. Helplessly, little by little, I find myself drawn closer to see amazing scent. the seemingly softness of his hair leaves me craving for a touch of his head with my bare hands. Inching closer and closer, I felt my heart thumping.

"Mmm" he sleepily lifted his head with half opened eyes. His eye bags were heavy and even his handsome face can't conceal those tiredness. I feel bad and the urge to help is real.

"Ohayou Ryosuke" I sat in front of him, just as when i saw his phone vibrating with Kasumi's name reflected on the caller information. He sighed before picking up, and he answered her with slight annoyance.

"I'm not free... I'm sort of busy this week until competition ends. We can meet for dinner but I can't accompany you for shopping. Sorry"

It didn't sound like he gave her any chance to rebut. He hung up the phone and pressed on his temples as if easing a bad headache.

"Sorry Hikari. You're early today" he still mustered a smile which I thought it was unnecessary cause I didn't need him to fake a smile for me.

"You don't have to smile if you don't want to." Ah, I shouldn't phrase this way. What I meant was he can be himself in front of me. He seemed shocked at my bluntness.

"Sorry. I'm really bad at hiding."

"Nah, but are you alright? You're barely hanging with the rest these days."

"A clingy girlfriend and a half missing soccer team which is due for competition in a week. I can seem to even afford to rest..."

"It's the same issue you mentioned before?"

"Worst. Now the team leader, Michieda is not turning up for practice too. I just found out yesterday and have been trying to contact him but he's avoiding me... but Suda, he wants to show me something after school, i guess it has to do with whatever that's happening."

"... you sound hesitant. You're going to go right?"

"I guess maybe I'm not prepared to find out the reason. He has always been doubtful about my bet on Michieda as the next generation's leader."

"You scared you're proven wrong?"

"Not sure if ego is the issue, but i think it's partly also because it's so close to handover and there's no one else i feel have the passion to lead the team."

"Ryosuke..." I felt a pressing need to ask the question bothering me right after his statement on passion. "Is passion or ability more important?"

"Hmm. I think passion? You may not have the ability but passion keeps you going and I think ability can be acquired thereafter."

"But if there's no ability, then no amount of passion can eliminate your shortcomings. You'll always be behind if not burdening other people"

"Well, it's a debatable issue. It depends how you see it I presume. You sound like you're personally related to this passion versus ability topic. You're not in some dilemma, are you?"

"No no" I quickly denied before I cause more misunderstandings since the dance initiation i made that turn things abit awkward between us for awhile. "Actually, if you want, I can go with you today to see Suda-kun."

"You will~?" He sounds surprised, but isn't this what friends do for each other? I wondered. Then he added, "it's okay. It should be fine. Besides, it's something I have to face it. Doesn't make sense to implicate you."

That explains. I must sound absurd. So being friends doesn't mean one can help in everything for the other person ne. He always smile so gloriously, i feel confused and it makes me feel comforted by my mistakes like as if all didnt matter.

Others started streaming in and I joined Airi and Umika instead. Umika's always drift towards Chinen and her pout was distracting. Airi and I didn't let off any chance to probe the matter and eventually we found that Chinen is completely unaware of Umika's feelings and thought she has feelings for other guys. Love is complicated for me, since I'm the only one here who hasn't dated, so I mostly kept silence. Airi is agitated and insisted Umika make her move before a apparent junior from soccer club who has a huge crush on Chinen too, is meeting him after school. Airi said that junior is likely confessing with hopes to officially start a relationship. Ryosuke knows her too and he teased Chinen about it, but the latter was keen to hear it out. We couldnt quite tell if he would accept the junior. Airi automatically included me in the 'Save-Umika' special project. While I'm glad I can help a friend, I'm feeling uneasy that I would cause problems.

So as the bell rings after school, we quickly found a spot near the meeting place between Chinen and the junior, while Umika stood even nearer. The plan was for Umika to interject and ask Chinen for urgent help when the junior is about to say "i love you". Airi fear Umika won't do it properly, so the two of us would be a back up to support Umika. Our adrenaline rushed when we saw him walking towards a junior girl, long permed hair with thick makeup that could be seen even at our distance. Just at that instance, I was distracted myself when I saw Ryosuke walking on the other side with a guy with longer hair, I guess that's Suda. Airi gave me a pat when she notices my distraction and I quickly refocused myself at my task.

"Senpai!" the junior said loudly in a high pitched voice. Airi was complaining how irritating she sounded in the club and I guess her whiny voice is the cause. She introduced herself as "Miku Tanaka"

Chinen greeted in his standard sunshine smile and the brighter he smiled, the sulkier Umika gets. The duo was having a good time chatting side by side even though it's their first interaction, and I was beginning to worry for Umika cause it all seemed to be going well for them. Then...

She held his hands all of a sudden. All of us gasped, held out breathe for a whole prolonged second. We know the moment is coming. But we never expect it to by non-verbal. She inched closer towards Chinen, her whole body did. He wasn't resisting, nor flinching. And if that continues, the lips are going to touch and that would seal their love. Even though I'm completely bad at this, I think my interpretation is right when I see Airi uptight, and cursing and swearing for Umika to strike now or she would personally charge at them. Just as Airi was about to pull me over and destroy the girl, we stopped midways when we saw Umika already intervening.

"Umika?"

We heard Chinen called when he stood up in surprise by her sudden appearance. Anger flushed upon the girl's face, in fact it could be embarrassment too. However, it wasn't only the girl who seemed uneasy, Umika too. From far, we could see her hands twirling and twisting the sides of her skirt. We didn't hear her responding to Chinen. Is she tongue-tied?

Instead, the girl took offence, "I've got something important to tell senpai. It's rude to interrupt and not say anything."

"Umika, you okay?" Chinen asked again. He sounds genuinely concerned but that possibly isn't what she wanna hear at this crucial time, cause she's definitely not okay with the girl's intimidation.

"Senpai... i need to tell you something!" The girl forcefully took Chinen by his arms and made sure his attention shifts away from Umika. By now, Airi is furious.

"This girl is gonna go ahead with her confession anyway! Umika really needs to drag Chinen away or there's no chance anymore" Airi ranted. I couldn't comment at all. Actually none of what I say would matter because the next instance was a complete shocker, even to Airi.

The world stop for every single person who witnessed it, especially for the 2 directly involved. Umika has shoved aside all her pride, her shyness, let go of her inhibitions and anger, all within a light peck on Chinen's lips. She pulled him from the nasty girl, and immediately touched his lips with hers. It was a short one, but so earth-rattling. Even my heart couldn't quite settle down. It started fast, it ended fast as well. Umika parted her lips then dashed off before Chinen can even call her back.. she ran past us and Airi chased after. I was helpless. Partly my incomprehension of whats the issue now. I walked to Chinen instead.

"You okay?" I asked a possibly weird question. But it's like it triggered something in him.

"Hikari, I have to find Umika." He told me then dashed off in the direction of her. There, I'm left alone again. I sighed.

What a dimwit I am. A friend in need, but I'm never ever giving the proper help. I pouted and paced to the school fields to sit for a fresh air before calling Yuto to end the day.

There he was, sitting at a corner, alone. "Ryosuke Ryosuke! You can't guess what happened just now. Chinen and Umika, they kissed." I blurted on and on, stupidly jumping in excitement, until I realised he didn't raise his head at all.

"Ryosuke?... you okay?" I bent to his level then he raised up his head after my repeated calls, his eyes so fiery it doesn't resonate with his kind personality. He didn't answer me, but look at me with eyes of deep-seeded evil. He past me then started running on the tracks. I was dazed at his speed and by the second round, I wanted him to stop. I ran towards him and for a brief second I was ahead, "Ryosuke, stop please... what happened just now? You can tell me. Ryosuke..."

He continued to run with his might, then I followed, but lagged behind. So so much. I have yet to complete 1 round but he had already past me 3 times. On his fourth round, I was struggling to breathe already, my legs were cramping. It's the camp all over again. He past me a little then he stopped.

"R-R-Ryosuke..." i struggled to speak. Yet he's laughing. Laughing??? I feel ridiculous. What's so funny?

"You're really worrying, Hikari... you wanna chase after me but while you tried to complete one round, I've ran 4 rounds. Your level of physical activity is low ne." He bent down trying to recover his breathing but it isn't even as hard as mine. I plummet down on the fields with my leg stretched out. I refused to chase after him as he paced away. In less than a minute, he's back, handing me a bottle of mineral water. He sat beside me, similarly legs spread out in all comfort. Still he was laughing heartily at me. It's obvious.

"Yametteyo Ryosuke" I protested.

His laughters were contagious but at least I managed to make him forget his problems albeit temporarily. "Sorry, I can't help it. You're really physically terrible." Since I can't stop his laughters, I join him. We both ended up laughing whenever we turned to each other. Alas, he stopped then patted my head. With seriousness, he said, "Thank you"

"Heh? Why are you thanking me?"

He didn't answer my question. Instead, he let out a short laughter again. It's not the same hearty laughter as before. It's a sarcastic, it's hiding a whole lot of suppressed emotions. I silently watched him, I didn't wanna force him to tell me what happened but obviously it had to be the soccer club and whatever the Suda guy said will show him something after school.

"I should have known better when it was announced that our opponent is Sky High. I was too confident of our team's ability that I forgot it's not just about skills." He sounded discouraged. I started immersing myself in his mood, listening and pondering why it wasn't just a battle of skills.

"Who dares offends the kids of Sky High. Those of my players who pulled out from this championship is either afraid to offend them or their parents were worried of the persecution." He laughed, "even the school chickened out."

"What do you mean? The school pulled out too?"

"Yes. They told Michieda to persuade the team to quietly pull out. That's when he knew he didn't stand a chance yet didn't want to disappoint me, so he chose to hide from the problems. I confronted the principal just now with Suda, stressing that our team will not give up without a proper match, you know what our dear principal said?.... he said my determination is foolish and will only end up burning our hands. He wouldn't support our endeavour."

"It doesn't matter right. The school's support is not necessary. I know you can do it even without the school's support. "

"I'm not talking about their pretentious encouragement. The team needs to pay a registration fee to enter the competition. Traditionally, the sponsors of the team would pay, but for teams without glitz or glamour to attract sponsors, the school would. The latter would see it as an investment for school's prestige especially if the team has high potential. For us, not only do we not have sponsors, we don't have our school's financial support. Knowing we are pitting against Sky High, no sponsors would even consider investing in us."

I didn't understand exactly how Sky High can be so powerful as an entity. Is it a known fact? Whatever it is, I could help. This, I'm confident.

"I'll help. Trust me in this"

"There's nothing you can do..."

"I really can... i ..."

"How can you help? Not only do I need 50,000 dollars, our team needs a field and equipment to practice, and the school has cut us from all supplies so that we will give up." He asked and only then I realised I could have almost dangerously blurted out my identity. I couldn't answer his questions. He chuckled before patting my head again, "thank you Hikari. Really, I appreciate your kind words. But it's nothing you can help. You have actually helped me a lot by hearing me rant."

I feel ashamed of myself. As Crown Princess of Aoihoshi, I couldn't help him at all.

"Please don't fret over my problems ne. You are already frowning over it. I don't wanna contaminate you with my negativity " he said as he laid down on the floor, sweat trickling from his forehead to the sides, and his glossy neck with sweat is exposed beneath his low cut sleeveless shirt. His stretched arms flaunts his underarm hair that makes him such a beautiful and manly character. I blushed helplessly, but in the midst of all my admiration, I see his exhaustion from the unhappiness within his tightly shut eyes. I'll help. I promise.

As I sat in the car, the dark words he spoke kept replaying in my mind like a broken record. I could still recall the despairing gaze in his eyes like all hope is lost when he uttered my name, "Hikari... Aoihoshi is a place I love, but as I grow up, I realise the cruel reality that it only loves the people with power and wealth. Only they are permitted to have hopes and dreams, and those like me only has what's left."

"Yabu..."

"Yes?" He turned to me whenever he has the chance as he drove me back to palace.

"Tell me more about Sky High"

"I guessed you would ask."

"You know? About Horikoshi's match with Sky High?"

"Yabu knew you would ask, so he had asked me to check thoroughly before this" Yuto who is sitting at the back with Yuriko said. "Sky High is where you were supposed to be enrolled if it wasn't for the strong opposition from Iwata. He knew you wouldn't learn in a school with a elitist culture that may not reflect the true hardship of the general population. Sky High is the icon of hedonism."

"I'll bring you to see for yourself." Yabu offered something I never thought he would risk. Yuto and Yuriko didn't know the plans too, appearing as shocked as me. The two stayed in the car while Yabu and I walked in through the majestic gates, gold plated! And that isn't even the only thing that's plated gold. On our way in, I already saw 3 soccer courts, while Horikoshi had one, but not even offered to Ryosuke's team.

"See this place through the eyes of Suzuki Hikari. You'll probably understand what your classmate, Yamada-san described." Yabu said.

Girls with thick make up, jewels blinging all over their bodies, their skirt so short, their shirt so low it shows their cleavage. Guys, on the other hand, walks with a swag, and commands a certain sense of authority and pride.

"They are sons and daughters of conglomerates, many are heir to big businesses. This school houses ministers' children too. So it is an elitist school in the terms described by the population. Students here excel with the best teachers and resources, and normally guaranteed high positions after graduation."

"They have connections. People won't wanna offend them. Whatever they want, they get it. Is that true?"

"Yamada-san said it i guess. I'm not surprised. Rumours of this school is popular among the citizens. They said they get their places in top jobs and everything else based on their connections with the government and the conglomerates."

"Is it true?"

"There were investigations conducted previously, commanded by your father. But there was nothing found. The government was clean apparently... i know what you are thinking Princess, but we can only fight if there's evidence. But the truth is, there isn't. The suspects themselves could only be seen as innocent."

I sighed. I took many steps forward and eventually led the way blindly while Yabu followed behind. Glamour really. The students are all immensely unapproachable. I recalled the fear of my first day at Horikoshi, and this is many times worst. I dodged the students nervously as they waddled across corridors. I felt invisible cause no one seem to be making space for me. Finally, I knocked into a group of tall girls.

"Watch it!" One of the girls announced then they circled me.

"Sorry," I turned frantically for Yabu but he wasn't around. Behind those girls were their boyfriends, equally nasty as they smirked their way towards me.

"Hmmm. You really are a daredevil to knock into her" a guy said.

"Well, let's play and see how well she scores" they dragged my hands.

"Let go! You'll regret if you hurt me!"

"Wow, that's harsh. I'll see how I regret right now" the girl raised her hands but there's no way I can shield myself with both my hands bounded. I can't say my identity either. I cannot jeopardise the work of my comrades. I closed my eyes, bracing myself for impact.

"Raise a finger on her, even if your parents were here, they wont be able to save you." Yabu paced out from the shadows, pulled one of the short guys by the collar and lifted him to his eye level and said coldly. Then Yabu pushed him towards the rest of the cowardly guys. I smiled in pride.

"Only a daughter of a national supermarket, yet you dare look down at her..."

"Why don't I dare... she's not even like the queen!"

When she said that with such conviction, I honestly feel bad for her. Yabu had to burst in sarcastic laughter that makes her start to doubt herself. "Tell her who you are"

What do I have to fear. I should triumph over her. I took a silent breathe, I too said with a firm tone "I'm Matsua Hikari! Crown Princess of Aoihoshi. Am I qualified enough in your opinion to keep you out of my way?!"

The guys and girls around her instantly dropped to the ground. She, on the hand, was petrified. They begged for my forgiveness. I felt disgusted by their change of attitude that even the apology didn't sound sincere. Ignoring them, I stormed off, leaving them to fear how they will be punished.

"What did you tell them Yabu?"

"Hinted to them that if your visit here today is make known to someone not here, all of them will die without even knowing their cause of death. It definitely scared them, their face is white"

"It's great that people don't know how I look ne. I don't look like a Queen" it's a mixed emotion I got, I feel out of place. Yabu could probably sense my inferior complex acting up, then herded me forward with his hands cupping my shoulders.

"Anyway, princess, I have to say, you did well back there."

"Heh?"

"You firmly stood up for yourself. In fact, I didn't do much. You told them off and that is impressive. It's an improvement and I am genuinely feeling proud for you"

"Really? I held back earlier because i dont know if it'll affect your operations with my identity exposed."

"In everything, there's always a risk. We'll just have to manage what comes along the way. The important thing is to make sure you stand up for what you think is right and try your best while you are at it. Don't hold back because you think it'll hurt us."

"... yabu, then do you think I can use my abilities to watch over my friend?"

We stopped and he turned me to face him with his eyes deeply gazing into mine, "Let me ask you... do you want to protect your friend?"

"Yes."

"Then do it. Think through your plan and let us know what we can do to execute it."

"You are not stopping me? Shohei is gonna be okay with it?"

"That's part of your training. To direct your own operations in the name of protecting the people you want to watch over. That's the spirit of our royal king and queens, and any of us will be glad you are going down this path of a compassionate queen."

"Thank you Yabu!" I threw myself into his arms and hugged him tight. Yuto and Yuriko who joined later, voiced their curiosity on how things ended in such overflowing happiness. Yabu tried to shake me away but I didn't let go easily. I really love this big trusty brother who always help me rationalise things.

Next morning when I went back school, I realised I almost forgot something. Umika's ordeal and I only recalled when I saw her all slumped on the bed like she had a sleepless night. Her eyebag is hanging below and she resembled a cute panda. I don't know why she thinks Chinen would reject her for the junior cause Umika herself is pretty. Much more than I am. She's so embarrassed about her daring kiss yesterday she didn't dare lift up her head at all. So Chinen didn't find her, she didn't meet him after that incident too. I was just as nervous for them once he come to class and I didn't have to wait long. He entered class minutes later with Ryosuke beside. While Ryosuke looked more cheerful than yesterday, Chinen looked dejected. Ryosuke had his arm over Chinen, while giving me a gaze to show his impatience with how the two of them are not talking. Chinen sits down and his eyes staring at Umika with a frown.

I joined Airi after she dragged Ryosuke to a corner and asked him, "is he's gonna go over and talk to her?"

"Don't ask me... I'm just as frustrated as you. Either of them has got to break the tension."

"How's Chinen after the k-kiss?" I spoke shyly but they laughed as it seemed to them im too conservative to speak of the word.

"I didn't think you would ask (laughs). Well, he's shocked but I don't think he irked it. It's Umika, and she's one of our class beaut too."

I used to be taught by sensei that love can only be shared with someone with mutual feelings. A sneak attack, especially by a girl, lowers her class and dignity. And a kiss or more (not sure what's more) can only be done after marriage. Sigh, guess, I can never do what Umika did back there. Especially not when he is already attached with a beautiful girl. My eyes naturally shifted to Ryosuke as if my thoughts are meant for him. What am I thinking, Matsua Hikari! You do not and cannot like Yamada Ryosuke! Yes, I don't!

"Hikari?"

"Heh?"

"You are looking at Ryosuke so intensely." Airi said worriedly. He's looking at me with raised brows. Awkward!

I frantically pulled out questions, fortunately they are what's at the back of my mind. "Ryosuke, what are you gonna do with the Soccer championship?"

"Ah, I didn't know Hikari knows as well. I wanted to ask you how I can help" Airi added.

"Thanks girls. I met up with Suda late night yesterday and we sort of discussed our strategies."

"Suda?! He discussed with you? That's new. I never thought that jerk will do that." Airi interrupted.

"That jerk, we may have differences in views and we may not be the best comrades but we have a common goal to make our soccer team great. So this is it, we are going to work together to make sure we are there this Saturday"

"I see... so what are some problems to address? That boy you assign as leader, is he still playing?"

"I've talked to Michieda, he is joining. I am not so worried for him. My fear is our lack of numbers. Even with me in the team, we are short of 4. I've got Chinen, Yudai, Daiki to join. But I'm still missing one."

"Actually, I can..."

Ryosuke quickly refuted me, "Hikari, it's a match for guys."

"No no. i mean, I've a... friend who can help. He's good at it."

"Yuto?" Airi filled in for me with anticipation in her eyes. I nodded and the smile on her face was brilliant. She's almost jumping with delight.

"Hmm... o-okay..." Ryosuke sounded surprised with Airi's excitement. "Whoever that Yuto guy is, Hikari you need to ask him first? He may not be agreeable if it's Sky High he's opposing."

"He'll be alright."

"O-kay. It's strange you're so certain."

"Heh?" I gave myself away again. I have to be careful around them, it's scary how observant they are, or maybe I'm just too careless, "I'm gonna ask him but he's a good friend of mine, he'll say yes."

"Alright then. If you say so... You arrange a time today or tomorrow for me to meet up with him? Or you can give me his number, I can speak to him?"

"I'll get him to call you."

"That'll be great! Thank you Hikari."

It's not everyday I can help someone and for all the times he helped me, I finally could return the favour.

"... you would need resources and funds. That's gonna be an issue right?" Airi probed. Ryosuke's face collapsed after that brief happiness.

"I'm meeting officials from Tokyo Bank later. I hope they'll give us some funds. Suda is meeting the staff from the national stadium where the championship will be held. Hopefully they'll give us a few hours everyday to practice."

I could see he didn't look as hopeful as he sounds.

"Ryosuke, actually..."

When he looked at me, somehow I didn't know how to answer him. I want to tell him I will get him a field and funds so he needn't worry. Help is on the way. His attention shifted when a female voice flooded out everything else. Kasumi snuck from behind him and wrapped her arms around his torso, leaning her chin comfortably on his shoulders. It looks comfortable and it seemed Ryosuke's mood was lifted with a very stressfree smile emerging from his face. That's the power of love, I supposed.

"Sorry, Hikari you were saying?" Ryosuke asked.

"Oh no. I must have came at the wrong time again..." Kasumi released Ryosuke then properly greeted us. I feel ridiculous again cause it feels like I made them uncomfortable instead.

"Nothing... I think Airi and I should go back to Umika now..." I dragged Airi aside, and at the back of my ears, I could hear Kasumi sweet-talking to Ryosuke, encouraging him. When I turned back, they were out already.

"Yes?" I asked when I realised Airi staring at me.

"You're going to hurt..."

"What do you mean?"

"You'll get what I mean in time to come. Just talk to me when you can't handle it anymore, okay? You don't have to understand now, just promise me this."

"Okay." I am confused but I'll play along.

Airi POV

This girl is either too innocent that she didn't know she has fallen in love, or she's pretending to feign ignorance in front of her rival. It's completely obvious to me that Hikari has a thing for Ryosuke. I've known Kasumi as long as the rest did, Hikari really isn't her match, and I'm not even comparing their image. Kasumi has a strong character, without which she would not have succeeded in her career and her love life. Kasumi literally won Ryosuke's heart by playing mind game with his previous girlfriend. They didn't end on a good note and apparently his ex got him so pissed off by the little acts of jealousy that I myself wasn't convinced she did it. I really have to applaude Kasumi cause she lasted so long with Ryosuke, but whatever she did to make him fall out with his ex didn't quite concern me until I see Hikari falling into the trap. Though I've only just became friends with Hikari, I don't want her to be hurt. This silly girl really is my worry besides Umika. I sat behind these two worrying girls in class, thinking to myself how did I even end up being their nanny of sorts.

During lunch, Umika barely ate. When she saw Ryosuke, Chinen and the clique approaching, she quickly zoom off as though he can't tell she is avoiding him at all cost. As for Hikari, I haven't seen her since lunchtime started. I bet because she doesn't wanna see Kasumi and Ryosuke.

"Ryosuke, who are you looking for? You're distracted" Kasumi asked. I noticed too, he was turning his head left and right, sometimes propping his head up to check out the entrance to the school canteen.

"Hikari's friend, Nakajima Yuto-san is supposed to be here in 5minutes. I hope he finds his way."

My heart was pounding ridiculously hard at the mention of his name. The text exchange with him during the camp was so short and too formal but it ignited my yearning to see him and hear him. I thought I was hallucinating when I felt his presence approaching. I raised my head in the direction Ryosuke was looking, and there he was, the tall figure, breezing through the hallway, his black hair dancing neatly against the wind. I'm truly intoxicated as our distance minimised.

Ryosuke stood up, in his usual gentlemanly politeness, he extended his hand to shake that of his invitee, "hello, you must be Hikari's friend. I'm Yamada Ryosuke, president of the Soccer club"

"Pleased to meet you. I'm Nakajima-Yuto. You can just call me Yuto." His mellow voice gave me hyperventilation as he greeted himself.

I uttered his name under my breathe and smiled at him when he took a quick glance of the rest of us at the table. Yet I was disappointed to see he did not take a second look at me. He couldn't have forgotten how I look like after this short while right?

"I'll make a move with Yuto first. You girls continue..." Ryosuke announced and within a second, the duo are gone from sight. I couldn't hide my disappointment at all, so I'm not surprised Kasumi would interrogate me right after. She asked me how it happened, my only answer was possibly the dangerous 'love at first sight'. I regretted hesitating for so long that when I dashed to the first briefing conducted by Ryosuke with the complete team, it's already over. I learnt from Daiki that Yuto is assigned as the goal keeper because his legs and arms are long, and he's so good at it. Ryosuke, Suda and Chinen naturally are the attackers along with a few other members including Michieda. Daiki, Yudai and others are defenders. The dynamics seems awesome. Yuto aside, I'm more worried for Ryosuke and Suda though. To deal with the bank or the stadium management, it's likely they have to put aside their pride, especially when we don't have the bargaining chip in our hands.

As I walked back to retrieve my bag from class, Chinen was in front of me. He entered the class and I see Umika trying to escape from inside, but this time I see Chinen blocking her way. That's like the most manly thing I've seen he did to a girl. even I became anxious for Umika when he pushed her against the wall and in that proximity where Umika can't look anywhere else but solely at him. I hide behind the wall where they couldn't see me and watched as the situation unravels.

"How long are you gonna hide from me?!" Chinen said fiercely. His frustration is so evident in his tone.

"I'm not."

"Are you kidding me? You don't even blink a bit when you pull such lie. You don't go doing what you did that day and dodge me like I'm some contagious disease!"

Umika is tearing up and it's definite, since it's not normal to see an angel like Chinen morph into a monster. She tried to escape but his hands pushed her back and clutched her by her shoulders. "Chinen... please let go. It hurts"

"It hurts as much to me. Even if what happened was a mistake, I don't want to lose a friend without finding out what's the issue."

Every monster has its weakness, and every guy would melt in a girl's embrace. Umika did right. She mustered her courage the second time instead of shying away, going forward right towards his body. Her arms wrapped around his torso, her head rested on his shoulders. I see tears rolling down her cheeks, wetting his sleeves. Her arms clasped so tightly around him that she didn't appear to have any intentions to let go after she found her hands a spot on his back. She's crying so hard while retreating into his arms, silencing whatever sobbing audible. she gradually melt into his embrace as he softens and his arms lowering to her sides, pulling her closer to him. His hands rubbed onto her, comforting her like a baby. It's sweetness to my eyes.

"I'm sorry for not realising earlier. You wouldn't have to endure the heartbreaks if I had been more observant." His fingers caressed her wet face and wiping those fallen tears with his bare hands.

"It's my fault. I should have said earlier..." she had wanted to bear his guilt but he didn't allow it, as he silenced her with his lips unto hers. It's an innocent first proper kiss where I could imagine his love sustaining her, nourishing her and stifling her fears. When he pulled apart, she is at ease when I saw their eyes looking into each other's like they were finally noticing each other. It's funny how they have known each other for so long, yet it's like they found each other all over again. It's perhaps the effects of a slow love where feelings reveal over time until it is fully nurtured, akin to growing seedling that blooms in summer.

How I hope mine was the same, instead of a bullet train that speeds into a collision. Love at first sight hurts bad, and what's more, a unreciprocated one. I clenched my fist and held back whatever thoughts of giving up. I've never felt so overwhelmed by any guy I've liked or dated before, except Nakajima Yuto. Even his name is so beautiful. I could still remember that night- his tall overshadow above me, his gorgeous smile, his bangs that fall nicely on the sides above his brows, his veins showing nicely on his neck and his firm muscles that wasn't overpowering.

Shohei POV

Through a cctv camera installed which Hikari and I are intensely watching the happenings within a confined room of the bank, I could sense her emotions going up and down. Frankly when Yabu gave me a heads up about Hikari's request, I agreed with Yabu it is something we should help. I'm just as glad as Yabu that she has learnt to empathise with her fellow classmates and do what she can to help them. It's a learning objective met, after all. What I'm more worried is how she's getting too concerned about this boy that I'm afraid it's not just friendship. For some reason, it's always revolving around him. Even at camp, he was the one who saved her. It's only for now, I agreed to myself to shove all these suspicions away and help her as she directed. I gave her only little guidance. She orchestrated the whole mission which is gradually executed out. She really has the ability when she put her heart into it.

"Shohei..."

"Yes?"

"How did you get the security officers out of the surveillance room?"

"Well well, you have a Head Royal Guard behind the scenes, and a Royal Counsellor aiding you by your side, how difficult can it be the trick the officers away," i laughed at her overthinking. She laughed along, possibly after she realised her silliness. In a short turn of events, her expression turned serious. Through the earphones, we hear those unnecessary harsh words spoken to the boy.

"Let me repeat... you want us to loan Horikoshi High School 50,000 to enter its soccer team to pit against Sky High," the smartly-dressed bank loan officer said, and it's out of mockery, I was certain.

He answered him seriously and that set me pondering if he knew he was being insulted that very instance he responded to the bank staff's sarcasm.

"Yamada Ryosuke right?"

"Yes."

"What do you have to offer?"

"Offer?"

"You don't think we will just lend you 50,000? Tokyo bank is not a philanthropist "

"Isn't your mission to help nurture youths? It's just 50,000 we need."

"Mission... hmm. If you aren't against Sky High, then we can consider. Why are you even trying, you and your team don't stand a chance at all. And in all business sense, there's no reason for us to sponsor losers."

"All because we are not famous or wealthy enough?" Ryosuke finally raised his voice albeit he is still polite. I would have totally punched the living daylight out of him by now.

"Don't say that but you finally understand, young boy. I suggest you guys just give up. Don't engage in unnecessary battles that get you little self hurt." The banker ruthlessly trampled upon the poor boy's pride and hurt his dignity. He shoved Ryosuke aside with a hard knock but the latter didn't protest at all. He stood there motionless like his soul left his body.

"That banker. He's terrible! I can't take it anymore!" Hikari protested, stomping her way out of the room until I held her back.

"I get your anger, I am too. But you don't have to stain your hands on this kind of dirt. I'll just get Yabu to execute the next step."

I texted Yabu next and immediately, I informed Hikari to watch the screen showing the banker snobbishly escorting Ryosuke out. Another two smartly dressed men in tuxedo paced in, obstructing their path.

"Are you Yamada Ryosuke?" One of them asked. He answered even though he appeared hesitant.

"Takaa-san..." the second guy called out to the banker who is clearly shocked by his knowledge of his family name, though not nearly as shocking as what the guy is about to say. "My boss would like to sponsor 100,000 to this boy and his team."

"Your boss? You must be kidding me. No one would dare sponsor them"

He said it. It's exactly my thoughts. They're not getting any sponsorship simply because the opposing powers are too strong. Now that the conjecture is right, Hikari's step of levelling the playing field by alleviating the status of the team becomes a turning point.

"My boss can sponsor whoever she favours. And there's nothing wrong with investing in his team."

"Who is your boss?" Both takaa and Ryosuke raised their query in unison.

"Crown Princess of Aoihoshi." The man announced. I saw both their faces turned blanked, and Ryosuke's one in particular is evident of a frown. I must say Ryosuke is a diligent boy. He may be in need of money but that doesn't stop him from refusing one that seems suspicious. He considers the risk and make careful considerations. And in this case, while Takaa is processing the payment unwillingly, Ryosuke asked the men.

"There's strings attached right? I can't figure why the future Queen would invest in us."

"Of course there are... you've got to win."

"That simple?"

"Our Crown Princess has her reasons for investing. She wants to reassure you, in the name of royalty, that she's not out to scam you guys nor tie you to unreasonable clauses."

He didn't seem completely convinced. I glanced over to Hikari is uptight only until he took the money and left the bank.

"Shohei, you'll send people to protect him right? It's a huge sum after all"

"Yes. Yuto has deployed some men over. And princess, Iwata has spoken to the sports council, they have acceded to Suda's request for the use of the resources."

"Thank you Shohei!" She gave me a tight hug. It's always this adorable princess that makes us unable to say no to her request. It's a sensible request after all this time. The whole time in the journey, she held that thankful heart. While I drove us back to palace, I see her hesitating to send a text message. I took a peek when I could, and it was one for the boy.

"Hi Ryosuke. How's it? Did the bank grant you the money?"

"Hi Hikari. Yes, we got both of it. Thanks for your concern!"

It's a very straightforward message with no frills. Hikari however was very inquisitive. She tries to solicit his thoughts about the grant from her real self.

"That's easier than we thought. Did the bank say anything?"

"It's strange. The Crown Princess apparently is helping us on this. But what has it gotta do with her?!"

"Maybe she learns of this and wishes to help? I heard she's kind"

"That's freakishly kind of her. Hikari, things like this don't happen without a reason. We are possibly pawns in a bigger plot she's planning. until I find out what it is, I'll have to be alert."

She obviously was disappointed how he viewed the Royal House and more so, his perceptions of her wasn't leaning towards pleasant at all. I'm not surprised, from what I heard so far, this boy is cynical about the government and all. It's possible this is her first time she's hearing public feedback about her impending role in the Royal House. If this had been a result slip, she would think it would be a bad score. Hikari seems deep in thoughts and I guessed there's some corrective work she wants to do. What I can do is to render whatever support I can give.

Ryosuke POV

Day of match 1. Things were tensed, everyone in the team was tense, including Suda who normally don't show his anxiety. I guess the incident last night downcasted the team. I looked over at the cocky team from Sky High. The same guys who verbally bullied the defenceless Michieda and the younger boys. Suda and I happened to witness the whole thing outside the stadium yesterday when the opponent were there to do a 'site check', except all I see them doing was provocation.

"Michieda." I walked to the solemn boy, sitting amongst the other solemn boys of his age. Chinen, Daiki, Yudai and Yuto tried talking to them but nothing seem to get them out of the depression.

"Senpai..."

"Come out with me for awhile." I didn't answer his why cause it is meant to be strictly an instruction. I was all prepared to pull him out if he continues his daze. I am usually sympathetic to him, especially with the puppy gaze of his. Today, my tolerance has tipped the limit.

"Do you know what you've done?"

I asked him sternly but from his confused look, I reckon he didn't understand my question.

"I don't care if you're demoralised by what those guys said. You can be what they described - losers, weakling... and you are definitely on your way to be exactly what they said from how you are behaving. But I don't allow you to spread that negativity to the rest!"

"Senpai... what they said is true isn't it? No matter how we try, they will triumph over us."

"I'm not god to tell what the ending would be. But i can tell you the Soccer field is fair. To be able to stand on it, we have a chance to honestly compete on a levelled playing field."

"Senpai, I'm not sure I can do it."

"You can, Michieda! Trust yourself. I trust you. Besides, there's the older boys too. We'll just support each other."

A smile b on his face and finally I was relieved. we walked back to the group then I gave him a pat on his back as an encouragement to step forward to speak to the group. He looked to me, seeking assurance, and I gave him a nod and there's all I was willing to. Taking the limelight, he took a breathe, mustering his courage then spoke with the much needed conviction, "minna. Onegaishimasu!" He gave a 90 deg bow. Most of his batch mates or younger gasped in surprise but I think showing them he's depending on them, lifted their sense of belonging and teamwork. Daiki and the rest, including Yuto nodded to me in approval of his method.

We made our way through the corridors leading to the field. "Hikari?" I thought I saw her. Her short hair resembled hers. most girls have long hair, making hers stand out. But why must she run when she see me? Strange.

In minutes, everything feel surreal. We stood in the middle with a full seating of spectators around us, and a much more undeniably magnificent opponent facing us. They were glamorous and almost shinning that even I can't take my eyes off. Michieda who stood beside me in the front, looked to me once again for strength. I gave him a firm grip of his shoulders and he nodded with confidence. I didn't allow myself to think what I told him was a forced reality that is impossible. Though a part of me wasn't sure what I said was true. I always believed the field gives us the equality and that made me like it all these while. However, it's the first time, I wasn't completely sure. Even that opportunity to step on it, is given by the Crown Princess and not because we have proven our ability. I channel my feel of injustice to strength and took the team behind me and went ahead full power. There may not be anyone cheering for us, it doesn't matter.

The first half was tough. Neither of us scored. Yuto defended almost all the balls that went his way. Whereas Michieda, Suda and myself managed to kick within the zone of Sky High. I thought if we try harder, we can really win them. Until things started screwing up at the second half. Suda was faulted for tripping the opponent. The team appears defeated and Michieda is desperately trying to lift the spirits. I knew at once there's something fishy. Suda would never have taken such risk to be faulted. And I saw with my own eyes, the act of falling itself was the one that's a foul play. We don't have a replacement player, so if Sky High has known this, having one of us kicked out would mean we are short of players. Outnumbering us give them an edge in the game.

However when the referee was holding up the red card. A tall guy dressed in suit, similar impression as the Crown Princess' minions I saw back at the bank, approached the referee. We watched as more questions sprung up our mind. The referee withdraws the red card, and immediately he denounced his own instructions, calling off the penalty like it didn't exist.

"What's happening?" Suda asked me. I shared his confusion.

"Don't know. But I think she's the reason"

"She?"

I pointed to Suda the highest seat in the stadium. There were more men in suit there, and a girl is sitting inside a dark semi-translucent panel that hides her facial features. All we could see is that behind it is a petite lady who commands high security.

"Could it be the crown princess? She helped us a lot..." Suda guessed what I thought is the most possible. But my doubts about her agenda never got out of my concerns. She wouldn't have helped us without strings attached.

"Let's not care about this for now. We have the last 10 minutes. Suda, let's do our forte move."

"Alright! Last time before we graduate, it's now or never...." he said. As i walked away to where My position is, he hollered to me, "Ryosuke! I never liked you at all, but you're a good partner and rival."

"You too." I smiled and we both each other a thumbs up. I walked up to Michieda and gave him a tough grip on his shoulders. "Hold yourself together. We can do it! You have the team all behind you!"

We defended the last 10 minutes down to the very last man. And every opportunity that we can make a goal, me and Suda will go all out for it. This time we saw it right before us. An open space for us to goal.

Michieda past me Suda the ball, right when the opponents are closing in on him. Suda dribbled it between his legs, flaunting his forte at its best, while watching the time closely. Right at the last 10 seconds when the opponents were tired out and more importantly they were absolutely sure that they will win with a one point lead, they let their guard loose. This is exactly when I'll make my move. With great telepathy and coordination, Suda kicked the ball in high speed towards me. Similarly, i took a strike as soon as the ball hits my foot. It speeds across the stadium and dive right past the unprepared goalkeeper.

"AHHHHHH!!!!" I could hear the roaring happiness from our team. Airi and Umika, along with the rest of our class and other supporters from the school ran towards us cheering in pride. The opponents and everyone else were in shock. Their disappointment was so grave I could tell this was not anything they had imagined. If it wasn't because the referee was intercepted by the suited man, I would think several more schemes to frame us for foul play who put us in a bigger disadvantageous position. I exchanged glances with Suda and he knew too that match 2 tomorrow would be precarious. Sky High will not take this defeat well, and they most absolutely will not let it happen again. We concealed out worries so that the younger boys can compete at ease, but that means the two of us had to be cautious.

For me, I can't ignore the lady above wasn't there. I dashed off alone and recklessly tried to get through the tight security. She's wearing a long black hoodie, guarded by a tall man on one side, and another on her other side. The latter seems more superior, donned in black sunglasses. I guessed her counsellor while the taller one her personal security? She's exactly what I thought- petite and frankly, I think she doesn't fit the stereotype or royal princesses. At least from the back view, I can't feel that aura of pride that chokes people when they get close. Moreover, she doesn't give the perception she is glowing like a star.

"Princess!" I shouted out while the Guards restrained me. She was about to turn around to face me, but she turned back before I could catch a glimpse. Neither one of the two men seem to allow it either. It's like she can't be seen. The personal security gave an subtle head nod to the other guards before they released me from restrain.

"I'm Yamada Ryosuke. Pardon me for intruding, but don't you at least want to meet the team who you have invested in."

She didn't respond instead she stood there stiff. It was the counsellor looking man who responded on her behalf.

"It wouldn't be necessary."

"Don't be mistaken. None of us are interested in you anyway. My purpose of barging here is to  thank you first of all. I would be impolite if I hadn't done so, before I delve deeper into what I want to say."

I was boiling within, with the mere thought that these higher up authorities are simply toying with commoners like us to achieve their own ulterior motives. I don't need their sympathy if it wasn't because there is no chance of us even getting that equal ground with Sky High if I hadn't accepted the offer. Now, it's getting the details of the strings attached that was never disclosed.

"In all respect, princess, I think this is a good time to let me know what you want from us. You'll demand only from me, and not my comrades. I hope you grant that."

She appeared to want to answer, even if her back was facing me the whole time. Again, the 'counsellor' stopped her. He walked towards me in the same hostility I do to them.

"Mind your language and tone, kid."

"I'm giving my greatest respect already. Sincerely from a lowly citizen to my grand princess."

"There's nothing the princess wants from you or your team. Just do what you need to do on the field and win the final match. Today's tie in scores didn't come easy, you realised."

"Thanks for your concern. We'll take care of that. But sorry to say I don't buy it that you have no intentions in offering us the sponsorship and helping us in managing the referee. I don't like to be indebted to people like your noble self, princess, so if there's anything you want me to do, I hope it'll be soon."

I bowed and took my leave. I heard a faint call of my name from the direction of the princess but when I turned back to look at her, she and her tall security is gone from sight. That voice, why is so strangely familiar? I have heard that voice before.

"Ryosuke..." i was jerked out of my trance by Kasumi who found her way to where the team is. "What are you engrossed with? Tomorrow's match? You'll be fine.."

"I met the crown princess."

"You did?!" Suda said in surprise with Daiki and the rest in shock as well. "Tell me you thanked her.."

"I did. But I was more towards asking her what she want from us."

"That's rude. " Daiki remarked, and it's not often that the rudest Suda actually agreed I was ruder this time.

"I don't care. It's a fact so I don't have to be nice about it."

"So what does she want?" Suda asked.

"She said there isn't anything... I'm not going to believe that. You doubt her intentions too isn't it.."

"I doubt, and I agree with you that it can't possibly be pure intentions. But I don't care either. We got the help we needed, and we can possibly win the final match, right team?!" Suda asked the team and Michieda led the team to a solid cheer that peeved Sky High who were passing. It's team leader tried to intimidate Michieda, but I intercepted. Nose to nose, we got into a stern verbal exchange of words.

"Count yourself lucky. The next time, I suggest you watch your steps." The cocky team leader of Sky High said. I found out much later he's the son of a Minister, the Health minister to be specific, but his father was never qualified. Not surprising, since it's the norm in Aoihoshi since this Crown Princess came in line to be the next ruler.

"Well, it's the same suggestion i have for you." I said seriously. The guy gave me a smirk and I was sure it meant trouble on the field tomorrow. As much as I didn't want to accept, that crown princess did help to ensure we weren't short changed. I said my encouragement to the younger boys and sent them off to rest, before rejoining my clique.

"Where's Hikari?" I asked while looking around.

"Hikari? She didn't come at all." Airi replied.

"Does it matter, Ryosuke?" Kasumi asked, and there's annoyance in her tone but I shrugged it away.

"I thought I saw her earlier before the match."

"Really? I think you saw wrong..." Umika added.

"Anyway, forget about Hikari... is the crown princess pretty? I heard rumours that she's our age and is gorgeous."

"All I know she's not tall. About Chinen's height?"

"You don't know how she looks?!" Daiki and Yudai exclaimed. "Thought you met her?!"

"Back view... stop it guys, It's just a girl anyway..."

"That's because you have a pretty girlfriend, you can say so..." yudai pouted.

"Guys. I'll make a move first. See you tomorrow" Yuto interrupted the nonsense from the rest. I completely forgot he's still with us. He appeared tired and just like me, he seem annoyed by the princess topic.

"Me too!" Airi dashed right after him. Something in Airi's eyes make me think that she has something for him. The clique split up to rest for the big day. Kasumi and I went for a quick dinner. She has much to say about her day at ballet, she hasn't stopped since we had our alone time. I feel apologetic for not being attentive, in fact several times, I wasn't able to well conceal my exhaustion.

"Kasumi, will you be coming tomorrow to watch the match?" I said it with some anticipation. She wasn't around today, I do hope my own girlfriend would be around at least for the finals.

"Were you not listening just now, Ryosuke. I have arranged with my ballet mates to watch a famous ballet performance. The performers are gonna be the ones attending the royal ballet function. I'll try to get close so that I can ask for a invitation letter to that function... Ryosuke are you listening?"

"Yes. Anyway, it's alright then. Watching the performance is more important, so go ahead And have fun."

"Ryosuke, you're not angry are you? You do know how much this matters to me, ne" Kasumi chased after me, intensely watching my expression. as much as I amicably told her that I'm totally fine with her plans, deep down, I'm not. However, she always has her ways to simmer things down, so even though we had frequent quibbles since she returned, it didn't last over a day.

She stopped my path and pushed me into the alley beside us. Nibbling behind my ear. It has never failed to and reciprocate, but today, my pettiness over her love for dance superceding her love for me, stood in the way. I became the passive one. Her fingers traced down my spine and pulled me closer. She caressed my neck with her lips, leaving bits along the way up to my lips. Her arms tangled around my neck then she implored the cavern of my lips, every corner of it, demanding for my attention, if not a return of her fiery, passionate kiss. I was breathing as hard as she did, and every moment there's a chance for me to gasp for breathe, I raised my protest with a weak call of her name. Her body leaned against mine, that sensuality could drive any one crazy, yet today just isn't the day. When her hands find her way down, trying to make her way in, i broke her apart. my hands firmly pushed her from me.

"Sorry, I can't control myself. We can go your house."

"Not tonight. I'm tired Kasumi. Maybe after my match and your performance..."

"Ryosuke...."

She is upset with my reaction, but I really am tired. While I am slightly intolerant with her, I didn't want us to drift apart when I really needed her. So as we sat the taxi back (as she insisted we do, though I have preferred the bus), I let myself onto her shoulders and fingers  intertwined with hers. I liked this quietness, rid of the quibbles and distance between us that grew so often after she returned. I yearned this togetherness the whole time when we were miles apart, but things haven't been the same now that we're together again. I have not asked about her plans moving forward, maybe because I don't have the courage to face her plans that entails another departure.

Once I have sent her home, I alighted the taxi and took a public bus instead. It's a longer journey but it affords me the time to just sit down and reflect on the day. I probably sound like an old man. In usual circumstances, I would have relaxed by now. But today was different. I looked back to the many eyes staring at me as though they were confused by my sudden glare. Am I delusional? I could sense someone staring intensely at me.

I shrugged it away since I was alighting at the next stop anyway. I went down and walked along the quiet path back to my apartment. Wondering if oneesan is home? I have the urge to talk to her suddenly. I could only be frank with her and no one else.

"Who's there?" I turned back, and I saw no one. Strange. I sped up but as I did, I hear clearly a set of footsteps closing in. I turned around. A pungent smell suffocate my nose, and much more than the pungent smell, was the pressure set against my face, making it impossible for me not to breathe in the pungent scent. A strong arm wrung against my neck, with a damp hand towel cupped over my nose and mouth. I gasped desperately for breathe, struggled with all my might , my legs kicking in his strong grip around me. That drained my energy, and the smell is making me nauseated and my vision turning blur, my eyelids getting heavier and then all I remembered last was me losing all feelings in my limbs and eventually consciousness.

Hikari POV

I can't seem to forget the exact words Ryosuke said to the Crown Princess. He hates me. It's not I haven't guessed it all this while, but when I hear him saying the harsh words directly to me, I felt so immensely heavy. I have never been more affected, and Yuriko told me it's because he matters to me, that's why his opinions hurt. Matters to me? If it had been Airi, Umika, Chinen, or any other people in the clique said it, would that have mattered?

2nd match day. The final one. I decided to not appear behind the enclosed viewing gallery guarded by tens of security. I stood with the clique as Suzuki Hikari, with a baseball hat above my head. Yuto was standing amongst the players, and speaking of which, he has been strange since he came back late yesterday night. He didn't tell me how he spent the night even when I asked, in fact he was incoherent. Could it have something to do with Airi? She's acting awkward too.

"Where's Ryosuke and Michieda?" Suda hollered to the team gathered near the podium. "The match is about to start, anyone knows where they are?"

"Michi didn't pick up our calls, senpai!" The younger boys responded urgently.

"Chinen, you managed to contact Ryosuke?" Suda targetted his best friend.

"I can't reach him either. Neither of us can. His phone either died or switched off. Kasumi said she hasn't seem him after they parted last night."

My anxiety raised as much as the rest. I saw the huge clock at the stadium and there's only 30 minutes left before the game.

"Well well well, look what we have got here. Horikoshi has 2 members chickening out of the game. Looks like they will have to compete this way..." Sky High mischievously provoked our players. Suda could easily pound on them but Yuto stopped him, pulling him back just in time.

"Why did you stop me?! I am gonna beat the hell out of them"

"So what if you beat them? The only one who will get into trouble is you. Getting kicked out is one, if you don't mind the already 2 absent members. Then you must have also forgotten the bunch can easily sue you for assault... it doesn't pay to be reckless!"

Yuto and his calm mind, the qualities of a royal guard who has undergone extensive training of resilience. I nervously listened in to their solutions but I'm more concerned that Ryosuke and Michieda isn't just simply absent.

"Guys! I'm sure the 2 of them are reaching. Whatever it is, let's just do our best! Yosh!" Suda rallied the team, shouldering the stress of motivating the pessimistic team. It seems to work, the team cheered then proceeded to do their warm ups.

The older boys, Suda, Daiki, Chinen, Yudai and Yuto gathered. Suda frankly told the rest, "I don't think they're coming. You guys are Ryosuke's friend, do you even believe he is not here when the match is starting soon"

Daiki agreed, "Suda is right. Something must have happened to Ryosuke."

"I agree. And I'm not even a least bit surprised it has to do with those twerps. What are we gonna do?" Chinen added.

Suda is caught in a fix, he is frantic, "We don't stand a chance short of 2 persons."

"Guys, I don't know Ryosuke well, but I'm sure he don't want us to give up. Instead, we should do doubly hard along with their share."

"Easy for you to say." Suda mocked. Yuto didn't hold back, and I understand it was necessary. He raised Suda by his collar, sternly making his point.

"Look, I am unrelated to this match and I could walk out right now since I've got nothing to lose. But you and your team have all to lose. I'm not giving up, yet you are? I suggest you pull your slack up and take over the leader! Don't speak or act like a coward"

I'm worried beyond words. I quietly backed off and crazily ran around thinking he's probably somewhere around. "Yabu~"

Standing in my way, he gave me a fierce look. "Where are you going?"

Mustering my courage, I said what was really on my mind. He's gonna forbid it, and ground me for that, but it's something I really want to do. He agreed for me to go for camp that time, he agreed to help me find ways to secretly help the soccer team. This time I don't feel so anymore.

"I want to make sure they're alright. I'm gonna find them."

"And you're intending to do it alone? ... do you think we'll allow it? Especially when their disappearance isn't so straightforward..."

"Yabu, you know something, don't you? Where are they?"

"I don't know where they are. But there are things we found out and I think it has to do with the match. I'm not going to stop you from finding them, but I'm not gonna let you go alone. It's dangerous."

"Thank you Yabu!"

"Don't thank me. Shohei instructed it."

"He did?!"

"Yes. He's going to watch the team over here and make sure they are safe. Yuto is on the team, so I think this part is well taken care of. I've summoned a few guards to go with us, Iwata is outside right now waiting for us. Let's go."

"Chotto, Yabu. I thought you won't let me join in. Why did you..."

He sighed. "If I didn't allow it, you'll still find your ways to. Instead of waiting for your reckless actions, I rather keep you under my watch... we dont have time to lose, let's go."

I followed him closely. I could see Yabu's men circling the stadium for suspicious activities but all reported back with no avail. Airi, Umika could be seem nervously at the podium, watching the game. I need to contribute too.

Yabu told me to go look for Iwata in the car first while he gathers his guards for a briefing. Walking out of the stadium, means leaving all my friends behind, with me unable to support them physically. I could only concentrate on one problem at a time and leave the rest to the others. How great do I think I am - i can only count myself lucky if I don't mess up this operations. The rest doesn't even need my help, I'm burdensome.

"Senpai!"

"Heh?!! Michieda?!" I hollered out when I saw the familiar boy staggering towards me.

"Are you okay? Where's Ryosuke? Where did you guys go?"

"I'm okay..." he panted hard, and when I held him, he is wet, and it's most certainly not just sweat. It's like he is soak in water. "Some masked men caught us. Ryosuke senpai is still with them. I've got to tell the men in black. He said they will save him. they'll kill him."

"Men in black?" My brain is in a mess. I didn't even realise Iwata is by my side, asking Michieda more details.

"Boy, where is the other person? Tell me the location and I'll find him."

"Who are you?"

"I'm one of the men in black. Tell me what you know and I'll work with the police to find him. We don't have time to lose."

"You cannot tell the police..."

"Why?" I asked.

"Senpai said it had to be the men in black. Not the police"

"Okay, I won't alert the police. Where is he?"

"It's warehouse number 20 of the industrial area at Palmier street."

"Young lady, we'll need you to come along to recognise your friend" Iwata said to me so naturally. Fortunately, I wasn't too traumatised to play along.

"Michieda, join the team if you can. They need you."

The boy nodded with tears still in his eyes, pleading us to save him. He said Ryosuke would die. No, I don't think anyone would kill him over a match. It can't be. I kept denying to myself in the car. Yabu who is sitting beside me in the car while Iwata drove, had to constantly keep me in check. Iwata sped across town with the imperial guards leading the way.

"Iwata, have you linked the clues together already? I think we can tell princess what we have found thus far." Yabu said.

I nodded profusely while adding, "yes please. Why did Ryosuke tell Michieda not to alert the police but the imperial guards?"

"He probably guessed the people who captured them is connected to the ones in the government. Instead, he knew for sure the crown princess' independent security is around and he rather take the risk that the princess would personally see to his safety." Iwata said.

"But he didn't trust me either..."

"I guess to a certain extent, he knew if you wanted to get rid of him, it wouldn't be at the game. You, as a sponsor, would want him to win so you'll make sure he's safe. But the capturers took the two of them captive at such crucial time could only mean they didn't want the two of them to turn up at the stadium." Yabu enlightened this time.

"Ah, the kidnappers must be Sky High!"

"If it had been the kids, things would be much easier to handle. But if it involves illegal captivity which could warrant a serious penalty under the law, then I think the mastermind would be someone with a certain authority and power. This person obviously wasn't too concern about the consequences." Shohei reacted. "I just hope they haven't moved their base elsewhere after realising the other boy has fled and probably called for help."

I clenched my fist while recomposing myself. I want to personally see to the punishment of those people behind the matter. Every single one of them.
