prologue: the night before.
The Missing GirlSoojung paced around the living room with hasty steps. It was almost one in the morning, yet Jinri had not returned from the party at Sooji's house. Jinri told her earlier to open the front door to let the latter entered the house because Jinri never brought her own keys. She promised Soojung to go back before midnight because tomorrow was a school day and God knew how hard it was for Jinri to wake up early. Soojung sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose. So much for taking care a grown up teenager.
Her father was out in a business trip to London, meanwhile her stepmother was out in a club with her friends and she might not return home today. She knew the woman well and it was not a secret that she often got laid whenever her father was out of the town.
Soojung herself started to feel drowsy. She was the secretary of the student council and there was an upcoming open house of her school that had keeping her busy recently. Thanks to Jiyoung, the treasurer who always helped Soojung, that the proposals for the sponsors were finished before the due date.
Soojung decided to sit on the leather couch and the television so something could at least take her interest and the sleepiness in her eyes would be gone. She watched a re‒run of America's Next Top Models, the one Jinri liked to watch usually, and plopped herself more comfortably on the couch.
But that was proven to be a big mistake.
She did not even realize that she fell asleep that night and only woke up when Mrs. Kim, one of the house maid went to her and tapped her shoulder, asking why the she slept in the living room instead her own room.
"Is Jinri upstairs?" She asked as she rubbed the sleep out of her eyes. But all she got as an answer was a shook of the head and frown began to appear on her face.
"Are you sure?" She asked again and the reply was the same. She bit her lips and excused herself to peek on Jinri's room. Maybe Mrs. Kim saw wrong and Jinri was still snoring upstairs, wrapped inside her cozy blanket.
She opened the door of Jinri's large bedroom. She remembered the location of Jinri's things freshly as the latter always took her in the room and playing together. Everything were organized neatly and there was no trace of Jinri came back last night. Worry started to wash over her features and she went to
