Chapter 14: Flutter.

As Yuri took in the sounds of the waves crashing and the image of the seagulls hovering above, she took yet another bite out of her grilled fish. Yes, she was having dinner at some very special place and she was enjoying it.

Nope, she wasn’t at any fancy restaurant or cafeteria.

She was at a beach.

Seated on a piece of chequered mat with a candlestick in the middle, Yuri couldn’t help but wonder if this was how Ho had his dinner every day. 

As they ate in awkward silence, Ho decided to strike up a conversation.

“Hey, care to tell me your name? It would be easier for me to address you in future.”

“Oh uhm, my name’s Yuri. Kwon Yuri.”

“Ahh,a beautiful name to match a beautiful face.”

Yuri tried hard to stifle back her giggle.

How cheesy.

“Gomawo, so…what about you? What’s your real name?”

Ho hesitated a moment and Yuri did not know if she should probe any further.

Before Yuri could start a mental debate, Ho had already answered her question.

“I’m Yun Ho. Jung Yun Ho.”

“I see…so I’ll call you Yun Ho from now on?”

“I guess so.”

“And…don’t mind me but I have another question for you.”

“Shoot.”

“Well…you see, for these past few days, I’ve been trying hard to locate you in school but to no avail. I’d asked around but no one knew who you were by your nickname. So, are you a student in Chang Mal?”

“…Ne, I was a student at Chang Mal. I’m a senior there but unfortunately…I have no more money to pay for my school fees. My parents…they’re…they’re dead.”

Yun Ho looked down before continuing.

“So I have to work in the bookstore to earn money. Besides that, I have a younger sister to feed. I want her to have proper schooling, and not be a dropout like me. Its way too difficult for me to juggle my studies, work and provide for my sister at the same time.”

Yuri was shocked beyond words.

Suddenly, she was aware of how fortunate she was compared to Yun Ho.

She, at the very least, had parents.

With the exception of that bastard.

Yun Ho’s eyes were red and he sniffled a little.

 Yuri felt an impulse to hug Yun Ho, leaving him a little shocked.

 But he hugged back nonetheless.

“Cry your heart out, Yun Ho.”

“…What?”

“Wasn’t that what you taught me? You told me to cry my heart out the other time too.”

Yun Ho smiled wistfully and allowed his tears to fall, not letting go of Yuri’s hug. He pulled back after a while and grinned at Yuri as he wiped his tears dry.

“Yuri ahh, call me oppa.”

“Well…only if you catch me!”

Yuri took off and ran as fast as she could, away from Yun Ho with him chasing behind. Their laughter filled the night as they forgot all of their unhappiness.

“Yuri ahh! Where were you last night? Do you know how worried I was?”

“Mianhe Sunny. I forgot to tell you that I was at a job interview and started work yesterday. I then had a dinner with my colleague.”

Yuri smiled in bliss as she picked up another spoonful of her breakfast.

Her colleague – Yun Ho Oppa.

Just then, Nichkhun appeared beside her with his breakfast.

He looked dead horrible.

His eyes were bloodshot and he had puffy eye bags. His hair was a total mess and his socks were uneven in length.

“Woah, what’s wrong with you, Nichkhun?”

Yuri asked in concern at Nichkhun’s unkempt appearance.

Sunny answered for Nichkhun.

“Yuri ahh, I was really worried yesterday night. So I called up Nichkhun and he told me that he only knew you went for an interview. Gosh, he was even worrier than me! He came to our dorm and paced up and down the whole night. He refused to budge until I had to force him to leave at 1am. By the time you came back, he was gone and I was fast asleep already.”

Yuri was deeply touched.

She did not expect Nichkhun to be so worried about her.

He even stayed up late for me.

Nichkhun interrupted her thoughts with his protest.

“YAH! Kwon Yuri, don’t you dare make me so worried again next time! I felt like I was going to die without you yesterday!”

Then, he hugged her tightly and to Yuri’s surprise, he planted a kiss on the side of her forehead.

She didn’t move at all.

She couldn’t.

Yuri’s heart was pumping wildly like never before.

I didn’t even feel this way with Yun Ho Oppa!

Sunny saw that and pretended to faint.

Nichkhun released his grip on Yuri smiled at her once again, before tucking in to his breakfast.

Bathed in happiness, Nichkhun’s mind was swirling with thoughts of him and Yuri’s future.

Too bad, Tiffany saw everything.
