starlit nights (repost)

Everybody loves the things you do
From the way you talk to the way you move
Everybody here is watching you
'Cause you feel like home
You're like a dream come true

Kyungsoo finds weddings vague yet interesting. Silently sitting with guests clad in expensive three piece suits and exceptionally made ankle-length silk dresses as they witness two people proclaiming their vows for each other with tears fighting its way free behind glimmering eyelids.

He's only attended at least two weddings in his life so far; first when he was given the position as ring bearer at his aunt's silver wedding, and technically his second today. Chanyeol and Baekhyun had been inseperable ever since, Kyungsoo job joining their small group of friends during high school along with some other guys whom they never cut connections with even after 7 years.

Well, with the exception of one person in Kyungsoo's defense. But that's no longer important now, it's useless to think and speak about people who's decided to make an exit out of your life.

The echoing applause within the halls pull Kyungsoo out of his trance. He rises up and makes eye contact with Baekhyun, smiling widely as he raises a thumbs up in the air. The brunette grins back at him before getting pulled in the waist by Chanyeol for another chaste kiss, only earning louder cheers from the crowd and an eye-roll from Kyungsoo.

Later on as the guests make their way to the reception area, Kyungsoo proudly approaches the newly united couple. He hugs them together at once, purposely pinching the taller male on the side.

Chanyeol gasps, jumping backwards. "Hey! What was that for? Is that what I get for marrying such a beautiful person?"

Kyungsoo smiles and makes up for it by patting him on the shoulder. "Take good care of Baekhyun okay? I certainly do not want a crying mess on my doorstep at 2 am."

"I think you're referring to Chanyeol," Baekhyun whispers teasingly. "He's the more sensitive one, really."

"Am not," Chanyeol defends grumpily before his face scrunches into a sly expression, softly bumping his and Baekhyun's heads together. "You'll be regretting any of what you said tonight," he murmurs.

Baekhyun pales at this before Kyungsoo cuts in.

"Um, guys. I don't think I need to listen to any of your plans for your awaited honeymoon escapade."

Chanyeol grins sheepishly, mouthing an apology in his direction yet the couple's bickering still goes on. Kyungsoo could only shake his his head at how silly they were, their soft expressions and gentle touches contrast to the words that spill out of their lips.

He laughs along and feels colorful bubbles inflate from his chest.

But Kyungsoo thinks that maybe even slightest bit of happiness in his life could disappear so easily. His lips curl into a frown when he senses a familiar pair of eyes trained on the back of his head, along with sharp needles that made the punctured scars of his heart throb painfully again.

But if by chance you're here alone
Can I have a moment before I go?
'Cause I've been by myself all night long
Hoping you're someone I used to know

The wedding reception was held at the garden venue of a newly opened hotel, just 3 blocks away from the accounting firm Baekhyun was working at. The place was truly majestic; white roses and silver ornaments gracing the tall dark trees enclosing the area.

The moon was in full view between the blinking stars, showering a hazy glow of light like splashes of watercolor against a velvet spreadsheet of black canvass.

In the contrary of glimmering lights, Kyungsoo's eyes find something-- or rather someone who used to shine so brightly in his eyes. Three years, it's been three long years since that glow dimmed and gradually shrunk into plain darkness.

Kim Jongin was walking through the entrance, honestly still looking as great as ever. He looked undeniably stunning in the dark grey suit that pefectly hugged every curve of his muscles, emphasizing his sharp features.

Perhaps he didn't experience the misery Kyungsoo had gone through after they broke up. But somehow it was expected for Jongin to look well; he had finally reached his dreams after all.

Kyungsoo unconsciously clenches on his wine glass a little harder. He may have (or may have not) moved on from their shattered relationship, yet he still finds himself feel a surge of jealousy when a girl cheerfully clings herself into Jongin's arm.

And before there could even be shattered pieces of glass in his palm, there was a comforting grip on Kyungsoo's shoulder and it makes him loosen his hold on the delicate glass. He glances over his shoulder to see Minseok looking at him worriedly.

"Hey, you okay? You look really tense."

"Y-Yeah I just-- none of you told me Jongin was going to be here. Isn't he supposed to be touring around the world right now or something?"

Minseok chuckles softly, "You know Jongin, he's kind of unpredictable. And besides it's Chanyeol and Baekhyun's wedding! He surely wouldn't miss such an important occasion."

Kyungsoo watches Jongin walk over to the long table in front to greet the married couple who looked surprised and deeply overwhelmed to finally see him again in person.

"Have you guys talked to him yet?"

"Yep, some of us bumped into him just a couple of minutes ago. Sorry we weren't able to tell you, we just thought that you might--"

"That's okay," Kyungsoo cuts in silently, offering Minseok a grateful grin. "Thanks for understanding though."

The rest of the night passed by in a blur with Kyungsoo being extra cautious as to not bump into Jongin. He had been making random turns to the bar standing at the back of the garden, mindless of the amount of drinks that had burned down his throat.

As soon as he's lost sight of his target, Kyungsoo excuses himself ahead from the event. He walks to the hotel by himself with shaky legs-- probably an after effect of the hustle from today's activities. They've been really busy for the preparations since early dawn and it was only normal that he was craving for a good night's rest.

He was already on the fifth floor of the building when Kyungsoo's body puts itself into a halt. The cold wind outside the wide terrace carress his face, as if it was calling for him to come. He steps out into the night, leaning his elbows against the railings and below he could see the brightly lit garden.

The cold wind against his face felt awfully good, letting his hair and loosened tie sway along with it. Kyungsoo shuts his eyes and allows the air to devour him.

There was an echo of chattering outside and Kyungsoo could only sense that they were close by the doors leading to the terrace where he was. Instead of looking back, he stays in place and inhales deeply.

"Hey."

It was that voice; a deep yet sweet melody he hasn't heard for over three years.

Kyungsoo pulls back to look at Jongin. He stops himself from letting his eyes run all over the younger male; from staring at him and from letting his thoughts wander to warmth and shared kisses. Kyungsoo wants to punch himself in the gut.

"What do you want," he bites, a little less harsher than he had expected it to come out. "I thought you no longer had anything to do with me."

To his surprise, Jongin chuckles lightly. "Well, that's the warmest greeting I've heard today."

Kyungsoo's mouth twitches into a frown as he turns his back to Jongin. "You're back. I never thought you actually would return to Korea, but here you are. Still aiming for the spotlight, are we?"

Jongin laughs as he settles in next to Kyungsoo, keeping distance between them. Not as close as lovers, nor too far for strangers. He then leans his back against the railings with arms crossed. "I just thought there're a few things worth coming back for.

Kyungsoo snorts loudly. How clichè.

"Aren't you going to ask? I'd be glad to share them with you."

"Doesn't matter to me."

The quiet sounds of night were broken by two soft knocks on the door. Kyungsoo turns around to see the woman Jongin was with earlier at the garden before nonchalantly facing the skies again.

"Jongin?" she blinks before she could make out the younger male's face in the dark. She glances at Kyungsoo, and then back at the taller male. "I'm going to get changed now. I'll be right downstairs if you need me."

"Sure," Jongin grins at her and Kyungsoo grunts under his breath. "Thanks again for today."

She mirrors his expression before disappearing behind the walls. Silence entraps them inside a gigantic balloon as if they were the only people to exist.

"She's actually someone from Baekhyun's office. We got introduced and kind of just came in together."

Kyungsoo grimaces. He suddenly feels like he's 19, young, and foolish all over again. "You know there's nothing to explain, Jongin. We're both over that."

"You know when I lie, Kyungsoo." Jongin pulls his lips into a small smirk, "And I actually thought I was the more jealous one in the relationship."

Kyungsoo's hands curl into a tight fist, his fingernails marking crescents against his palms. He hates it how Jongin was taking this so lightly, it was as if he considered their broken relationship a plain joke.

"I've really missed you though. So much." Jongin spoke softly, "And suddenly seeing you again after so many years-- It feels strangely overwhelming. It's already been so long has it?"

There had never been a time Kyungsoo wanted to hit Jongin so hard until today. The younger male easily slips in to stand behind him without any opposing restraint, hands smoothly reaching up to cling onto Kyungsoo's waist.

I missed you too, Kyungsoo wanted to say. But instead of saying so, he chooses to let his back lean against Jongin's body to let himself feel the support he once had before.

After all, maybe there was still a small spark of flame in his heart.

You look like a movie
You sound like a song
My God, this reminds me
Of when we were young

The moment the door closes with a beep, two stumbling bodies try to find their way in through the dark of Kyungsoo's hotel room.

A ring of keys drop noisily on the floor along with discarded coats, hushed grunts and moans elicited from hungry tight-lipped kisses.

The back of Jongin's knees blindly hit the bed and he drops in a sitting position above the mattress. Kyungsoo quickly kicks his shoes off before wrapping his legs around the younger's body to pull their heated bodies closer, his fingers running messily through perfectly mussed hair as they share desperate kisses.

Shirt buttons and zippers were popped open and in one quick move, Jongin has Kyungsoo pinned above the bed. He plants butterfly kisses along Kyungsoo's neck before pretty little marks against the skin of his collarbones, the latter biting his lips to hold in the sounds that were threatening to spill behind it.

"Stop holding back," Jongin whispers, violently ing his hips that has Kyungsoo madly gasping for oxygen. He a strip in between Kyungsoo's closed lips and the older male shudders, letting his jaw fall open and allow Jongin to explore the entirety of his mouth.

Their hearts were racing against each other like thunder through dark clouds.

Sometime over the night they collapse together in between messy sheets, two longing bodies finally giving in to their emotions and let each other be held by a thin string of thread.

I was so scared to face my fears
Nobody told me that you'd be here
And I swear you moved overseas
That's what you said, when you left me

Kyungsoo was a senior while Jongin, a junior from the same university. They've been together for three years already-- soon to be four in just two more months.

Everything was going great, until a day came when Jongin was given the privilege to dance on a much larger stage. Apparently scouts from different companies were present during the event, eager to take in fresh and new recruits. Simply put, it was a door of opportunities for Jongin just waiting to be unveiled.

Dancing was Jongin's passion and Kyungsoo understood that. Being one of the chosen dancers required for Jongin to move overseas so he could start training with the rest of the dance crew and participate in tours all over the world.

Kyungsoo's final graduation was approaching with a continuous wave of work applications and interviews along the line. Jongin was too engrossed in his dancing as well; because apparently slacking off could get one's kicked out in a heartbeat.

Both were too busy chasing their own dreams. Thus, the decision to break up was quite faster than imagined.

Kyungsoo would have chosen to hold on, he really did. But as the days went on, Jongin just moved farther and farther away from him until he was no longer within Kyungsoo's reach.

It's hard to admit that
Everything just takes me back
To when you were there

Kyungsoo wakes up with Jongin's arm laying lightly across his stomach, face pressed cutely against the pillows. His tanned chest was bare of clothing, breath steady and lips chapped from dryness.

After his blurry thoughts of last night, Kyungsoo had finally gotten the chance to see Jongin's face up close in light without being distracted by brown eyes that had the capability to look right through his soul.

Jongin's appearance might have changed even in the  smallest details no one would even probably bother to pay attention to. And ever since last night Kyungsoo had always wondered if it also applied with the Jongin he once knew.

"Still like staring at me don't you?" Jongin mutters with his eyes still shut and Kyungsoo bolts upright in surprise, completely embarrassed for getting caught in the act.

Kyungsoo scoffs, "Who says I was staring." He tosses his legs off the bed and was about to pick up his shoes when Jongin takes a good grip on his wrist, pulling him to a stop.

"H-hey where are you going?"

Kyungsoo glances at their hands and Jongin blinks before slowly retracting his arm back.

"I'm going to work," Kyungsoo plainly states.

"But it's a Sunday. Doesn't your office close on weekends?"

He pauses upon realization, glancing at the digital clock for confirmation as he starts to dress himself like no one was watching. "How do you even know that? I don't think I ever told you about how I transferred departments."

Jongin shrugs, lifting a corner of his mouth up a little. "It's pretty obvious you don't read nor watch anything that has to do with me. But despite that I've kind of been updated with you ever since."

Kyungsoo tries not to let his heart surge upwards. He didn't think Jongin still actually did care for him after they parted ways. And Jongin was mistaken. Kyungsoo would sometimes actually stop flipping on the entertainment portion of newspapers and magazines to read about Jongin and his so-called dance group.

Out of all the replies he could think of he ends up with a "I'll be heading straight home then," which seemed to have brightened Jongin's expression.

"Hold on for a minute I'm coming with you." The younger male kicks the blankets off his legs before hurriedly rummaging through the room for his discarded clothes from last night.

It takes Kyungsoo enough self control not to laugh at how childish and messy Jongin looked like as he tried to put on his clothes, the buttons of his dress shirt ridiculously messed up.

"Calm down, I can wait for you," he smiles, "and your sweater's worn the other way around stupid."

But Kyungsoo fails right then and there because he recalls that laughter was just right around the corner whenever it came to Jongin.

They've been seeing each other for nearly a month now, most of the time finding each other in private rooms and bare bodies.

Occasionally they would eat together and watch re-runs of dramas and subbed American movies on tv. If one were to search for evidence of Jongin's presence in Kyungsoo's apartment, it would be pizza crumbs and chips laying on the floor. Sometimes Kyungsoo even finds some of Jongin's t-shirts hanging around the house.

"Are you sure nothing is going on between you guys again?" Chanyeol once asked through video calling. "Because my eyes and ears tell me so."

Kyungsoo shakes his head, "No, definitely nothing. This is just-- think of it as reminiscing. You understand me right?"

"By reminiscing, do you mean hanging out to catch up like two reunited lovers? Because yes, I completely get your point."

"Chanyeol! I told you it's not like that," Kyungsoo sighs exasperatedly. "I mean-- it's perfectly normal these days. Things happen."

"Still have feelings for him?"

Kyungsoo gets tongue tied, the question spinning right through his chest area like a bullet.

Due to the lack of response, Chanyeol clicks his tongue. "By the way I just talked to Jongin on the phone around lunch today."

"Really? What did he tell you?"

"You know I'm not in the position to say anything. This is between you guys so why don't you go and ask him yourself?"

As if on cue, Jongin opens the door to his room with a bag full of snacks in hand and a scrabble game tucked under his other arm. He grins widely. "You on for a rematch?"

Kyungsoo contemplates on Chanyeol's question.

You still look like a movie
You still sound like a song

Of when we were young

The wooden bridge crossing the small river was just how Kyungsoo remembers it to be. There remained a few planks that were about give up any moment soon, and the moss only grew thicker as they clung against the poles along the river.

Jongin and Kyungsoo were sitting on the center, legs swinging comfortably above the flowing waters.

It was back then when they would hang out on the same spot, purchasing boxes of yogurt and milk before they would chatter their hearts out while leaning against each other.

But now things have changed. They acted like complete strangers as if both hearts weren't pulling the other like two opposite magnets. And instead of sweet milk, it was now two large cups of bitter coffee in their hands.

"So have you still been coming here?" It was Jongin who cut the growing silence.

"I guess this will be the second time in four-- three years if I remember correctly." Kyungsoo hums quietly, "Brings back memories."

"Mhm," Jongin leans back on his arms before completely laying down on the bridge, inhaling deeply. "Damn I've missed Korea so much. This is definitely much better than crowded streets and night parties. You remember how I used to say I that I always wanted to live in high rise buildings? Well I take that back now."

Kyungsoo moves closer to nudge the younger's knee with his. The wood boards were slightly damp from the rain earlier, dust and mud leaving stains on their jeans. "Get up Jongin or you'll get even dirtier-- and no, please don't even start with the inappropriate jokes."

"What?" Jongin exclaims laughingly. "I haven't even said anything yet."

Kyungsoo snorts, "But I knew you were gonna say something. Might as well avoid before it starts."

"But you used to like them so much." Jongin pouts as he sits back up again and Kyungsoo attempts to hold in the heat that was threatening to paint his cheeks.

"Two words: Used to."

"Then I'm sure you wouldn't mind if I make an attempt to make you laugh at them again," Jongin pauses to look at Kyungsoo in the eyes, wary. "That is, if you still want to spend time with me."

Kyungsoo's eyebrows are furrowed. "How long are you staying here? I thought you were busy practicing for your tours or something."

Jongin brings his legs up, hugging his knees across his chest. "I've really thought hard about it and um, I came to a decision that it would be better if I stay here again, permanently."

"Why are you telling me this now?" Kyungsoo exclaims.

"Oh," Jongin says , "I've been here for almost a month now so I thought you already saw it coming."

"What about your work? You've already built up one heck of a name Jongin. And all the hard work you've dedicated to get there-- don't you think it would be a waste to just leave so suddenly?"

"I actually quit the dance company, so there would be no use changing my mind," Jongin says as he ruffles his hair. "And for a job I can help Yixing with his dance classes again. I've saved up quite enough too so maybe I'd be able to open my own workshop soon."

Kyungsoo paled visibly. It seemed like it has already had been long since Jongin had weighed this decision. Kyungsoo didn't want to ask but the lingering question came out of his mouth anyway.

"Then what made you give all those up?"

Smiling softly and eyes shining, Jongin stretches his limbs like he was embracing the sunlight. "This," he says simply. And then his eyes find Kyungsoo's.

There was no need for words, just the genuine glint in Jongin's orbs were enough to express his thoughts.

"We broke up Jongin," Kyungsoo deadpans.

"I know it was hard for both of us, Soo," Jongin sighs through his nostrils as he looks at their reflection in the river. "I guess I was too overwhelmed with my passion for dancing that I mindlessly put you aside with the thought that you'd always be there for me. And I admit that was completely stupid. But soon after we broke up it took me years to finally take a grasp of what really mattered. "

Whatever Kyungsoo's response would be to his sudden spill of words, Jongin was ready to accept it.

But to his surprise, Kyungsoo scoots in closer beside him, laughing softly. "To be honest with you I also didn't think we would last," he admits sheepishly, "we were young and foolishly inlove. So just like that, I let go of our relationship without even bothering to fight for it."

Jongin smiles as he wraps Kyungsoo's hands around his own.

"I'm sorry," they both utter in unison before laughing in embarrassment.

Memories of him and Jongin stealing kisses right on this bridge plays in Kyungsoo's mind. As well as that time when Jongin fell on the water and how Kyungsoo also ended up drenched and cold as they walked home together. Maybe it wasn't bad if he was hoping to be able experience these things again.

"So uh, Do Kyungsoo," Jongin clears his throat, "will you give me another chance and allow me to win your heart back again?"

Kyungsoo jokingly snorts loudly. "What? No flowers or anything? How plain Kim Jongin, I'm disappointed."

Jongin brings their foreheads together. "You find flowers romantically sappy, Kyungsoo. How can I forget that?"

"You're right," Kyungsoo chuckles, feeling all fuzzy with the fact that Jongin still remembers. "I've always preferred kisses."

And so Jongin leans in to capture Kyungsoo's lips in a gentle kiss, trailing his lips up along his jawline before whispering an 'I love you' against his ear.

Jongin used to repeat these words to him, yet now the effect felt much different; it wasn't that kind of love that made Kyungsoo feel giddy and lovesick-- it was the love that made him realize mistakes, regrets, and acceptance.

He looks at Jongin, placing a palm affectionately over the younger's cheeks.

His stars for Jongin may have dimmed, but he is definite they would never cease.
