A week after the incident Wooyoung and Taeyeon had no spoken to one another. Taeyeon was busy with promotions and Wooyoung wanted to keep himself busy to forget what had happened.

[IN 2PM LIVING ROOM]
The guys were sat down watching TV when Taecyeon received at text

From: Tiff

Hey, you up too much?

From: Taec

Nothing much, just with the guys… what’s up?

From: Tiff

We’re having a party for Taeyeon, it’s her birthday so I was wondering if you guys wanted to come. It’s on Friday night, next week.

From: Taec

Yeah that sounds good, I’ll let you know for definite if we can come, you know what these schedules are like

From: Tiff

Ye, I know what you mean, let me know soon J

From Taec:

Tiff, I was wondering, what happened last week with Wooyoung and Taeyeon

After 5 minutes there was still no reply. But then Taecyeon’s phone rang

Taec: Hey, Tiff
Tiff: Hey,
Taec: So what can you tell me about the 2 of them
Tiff: Has Wooyoung still not told you guys anything
Taec: We try and bring it up but when we get close to finding out, he changes the subject… what ever happened he seems to have really affected him.
Tiff: He’s not the only one. – she sighed
Taec: Is Taeyeon ok?
Tiff: She keeps saying she is, but we know she’s lying – she sounded so upset
Taec: Do you think it will be a good idea to bring him next week?
Tiff:  Honestly, I don’t know, maybe you should be the judge of that since you are with them and all… if he wants to come he is more than welcome.
Taec: Ah, ok… I’ll talk to him about it
Tiff: I hope they can sort this out soon
Taec: Ye, me too, I hate seeing both of them like this
Tiff: Me too… Oppa I have to go now, so I’ll talk to you soon
Taec: Ok, take care, I’ll text you soon
Tiff: Ok, bye bye

[The next week Wednesday]
The guys had finally been updated about the current situation between Wooyoung and Taeyeon, how she rejected him, of course the emotional exchange of words was left out of the update

2PM DORM

Cha: Hyung, have you told Wooyoung about the party on Friday?
Taec: I don’t know how to break it to him. – just on time Wooyoung over heard his name
Woo: Break what to me?
Taec: Woo – he said startled
Woo: What did you want to tell me hyung? – he said innocently taking his place on the sofa
Taec: I… er, well you know on Friday … we,
Woo: Hyung, just get to the point
Cha: Its Taeyeon noona’s birthday and we’re invited. – he said casually. Wooyoung saw all eyes on him waiting for his reaction. He knew it would be her on Friday, but he still wasn’t sure what sort of relationship they had, were they just acquaintances, friends, or actually nothing to one another. Well obviously Taeyeon couldn’t be nothing to him.
Taec: Look, Woo, if you don’t want to go we fully understand so…
Woo: I’ll think about it – he said calmly. – the guys were taken aback by his response but decided to leave it at that
Taec: Ok, that’s fait enough – he said giving a warm smile.

On the other side, SNSD have told Taeyeon about the possibility of Wooyoung turning up to her birthday. She had taken it well, too well much to the surprise of the members

[Thursday]

The following morning Wooyoung had woken up early to meet someone who could always make him smile without even trying.

He reached his destination and was instantly greeted with a small figure running towards him arms wide open, smile beaming.

? : Ahjussi! – The girl squealed jumping into his arms
Woo: My little princess – he hugged her tightly ‘ Did you miss me?’ – he said carrying her towards the car
Eun: I did – she responded immediately

He placed her in the car and fastened her seatbelt. Wooyoung wanted to spend the day with Eun Ae since he hadn’t seen her in a while with everything that was going on with him. It may have only started out as a show, but he cared for Eun Ae deeply like his own flesh and blood.

Eun: Where are you taking me ahjussi? – she asked cutely
Woo: Well, today I was wondering if you would like to come shopping with ahjussi– he said softly. The little girl nodded enthusiastically at the thought.
The conversation was between the 2 was lively, Wooyoung listened happily to Eun Ae talking about the new things she had learned.

The 2 took their place in the café, some taking a second glance at Wooyoung, who despite being dressed casually was still handsome.
Eun: Ahjussi, where is unnie? – she said coolly. Wooyoung was caught guard at the mention of her name. Not just that, but at the mention of her name in general would always gain a reaction from him.
Woo: Er… well Unnie is busy now a days – he replied
Eun: Really? No wonder she is always on TV, unnie is so pretty on TV –she said proudly. Wooyoung just smiled at the comment, he couldn’t deny it.
Woo: Eun Ae, it’s actually unnie’s birthday tomorrow, so we have to buy her a gift – he smiled
Eun: A gift? – Wooyoung nodded.
Eun: Ok , ok, we have to find unnie a really pretty gift ahjussi! – she said seriously.
Woo: that’s why I need your help – pinching her cheeks.

The 2 made their way to the mall and began their shopping trip. They were walking hand-in-hand which earned them murmurs

?: They’re so cute
?: Wooyoung is so handsome
?: I wish I was holding his hand

The 2 carried on walking happily despite this
Eun: Ahjussi, I don’t know what to get unnie
Woo: Eun Ae, your unnie will be happy no matter what gift you buy for her – he said happily.

The 2 carried on walking around looking for something suitable for Taeyeon. Wooyoung had walked into Chanel, looking for a bag, Eun Ae not realising what sort of shop it was looked around and found something which caught her eye
Eun: Ahjussi look – Wooyoung saw what she picked up and smiled
Woo: For a little kid you sure do have taste – he laughed
Eun: It’s pretty right?
Woo: So should we buy this for Unnie? – Eun Ae nodded and smiled. Wooyoung made his way to the till but before he could pay Eun Ae tugged on his arm
Eun: Ahjussi, how much should I give you?  - Wooyoung was startled at her comment
Woo: What do you mean? – he sounded confused
Eun: For the scarf, I have to pay for Unnie’s scarf – she reasoned with him. The woman at the till couldn’t help but smile, Wooyoung burst into laughter.
Woo: Aigo… you really are something my little princess – he carried on laughing. Eun Ae looked at him with a blank face.
Eun: Why are you laughing Ahjussi?
Woo: Nothing, you’re just so special – he commented making the little girl smile. ‘ Well how much do you have?’ – he asked playfully
Eun: I have… - she then pulled out a small purse from her coat pocket
Woo: She has a purse? – Wooyoung whispered to himself
Eun: There we go ahjussi – she extended her hand and gave him the coins in her cute little purse. Wooyoung counted it and saw she had given him 65 won. He smiled warmly and turned to her
Woo: I think this will be enough – he turned to the woman at the till who was looking at him like a fool
?: She’s so cute – she added while scanning the item
Woo: She is isn’t she
?: Is that the kid you’re looking after with Taeyeon sshi, I’ve been watching the show, you guys are so cute together – she complimented him
Woo: Well thank you for watching the show – he said kindly
?: That will be 250,000 won. Wooyoung gave her his card
?: Are you buying this for someone special? – she asked.
*Special?* - Wooyoung thought
Woo: Er, ye… you could say that – he answered
?: Would you like you to gift wrap it then? – she offered
Woo: Ye, sure why not – he replied. After a while the gift was finally wrapped.

?: There you go sir – she said handing him the bag
Woo: Thank you – he gave a polite smile and headed out.
Eun: You think Unnie will like this? – she said looking up at him cutely
Woo: She will love it – he smiled

They had continued looking around for a couple of hours but Wooyoung was still unsure of what to get Taeyeon. He saw something that gave him an idea, but he felt that the gift was too simple. Still he wanted to give something more meaningful than expensive. He made a few calls and after a while he got a phone call back asking him to pick up his order.

Woo: Thank you so much for doing this on short notice
?: Don’t worry about it, - the old man smiled
Wooyoung carried the item with him and placed it in the car.
He took Eun Ae home who was excited to be going to the party, she kissed Wooyoung goodbye and headed in.
When he returned to the dorm he explained to the members that he had spent the day with Eun Ae, but he hadn’t told them if he would be going to the party or not.


[Taeyeon’s Birthday]
It was 8pm already and the guys were waiting for Wooyoung to return, he hadn’t told them where he was going so they were getting impatient. Suddenly one of them received a text

To: Junho
From Wooyoung

Hyung, you guys go ahead without me. I have something to do

Junho: Guys Wooyoung said we should go without him, he has something to do
Nic: Is that his excuse because he doesn’t want to go?
Taec: We can’t wait any longer, everyone is there. – he reasoned
Cha: Let’s just go, if hyung wants to go, he will turn up later on right? – the guys nodded and headed out

From: Junho

Ok, we’re going now, we’ll be back later. If you change your mind, just go ok? See you later.

Wooyoung was actually helping Eun Ae change who had woken up from her nap. So he was running a little bit behind.
The boys arrived at the event which was held in a venue which the girls rented out.
The boys greeted Taeyeon instantly who was stood with Tiffany and Sooyoung and other people.
Cha: Noona! Happy birthday – he beamed. The 3 girls turned around to see 5 beastly guys dressed handsomely with huge smiles on their faces. Taeyeon eyes scanned momentarily
*I guess he’s not coming* - she thought sadly while still smiling
Tae: You guys made it – she greeted them
Nic: Of course we did, happy birthday!
Tae: Thank you guys J - she wanted to know where he was, but she couldn’t bring herself to ask. Her members beside her were just as curious too.
Tiff: Er, why don’t we guys go to the bar – she interrupted
Junsu: Sounds good to me – Tiffany guided them to the bar while Sooyoung stayed with Taeyeon. Sooyoung saw the expression in Taeyeon’s eyes when the guys walked away, she was disappointed. Disappointed that he wasn’t there.

Tiff: I guess he isn’t coming
Taec: I guess so, but you never know

Soo: Here, drink this – she gave Taeyeon a drink.
Tae: Thanks – she gulped the drink in one shocking Sooyoung. She didn’t want to rain on her parade by telling her to slow down with the drink so she just raised her drink and took a sip.
The party was going well and everyone was having a great time. An hour or so later Wooyoung eventually turned up with Eun Ae. His entrance gained the attention of the 2PM members and SNSD. Taeyeon at first didn’t know he had arrived until she saw her members staring in one direction, when she saw him a mix of emotions hit her.
*He came. He actually came.* The suddenly she noticed the little girl’s hand he was holding, who came running to her.
Eun: Unnie! – she squealed happily
Tae: Eun Ae ah ~ - she greeted her happily. The members were also happy to see her
Jess: Hey Eun Ae? You remember me right. – Eun Ae recognised her face but not her name   
Eun: You’re Unnie’s pretty pretty friend – she bowed politely. The girls laughed at her response.
All eyes then shifted to Wooyoung who shyly made his way over avoiding eye contact with Taeyeon. He bowed politely
Woo: Hi, it’s nice to see all of you again, erm… happy birthday Taeyeon sshi -
*sshi? I guess he wants to be formal* - she thought, disappointed

[2pm MEMBERS]
Nic: Turns out he didn’t chicken out – he smirked
Taec: Eh?
Nic: Wooyoung, he’s here. The member turned around and saw how awkward Wooyoung was with Taeyeon but they were proud of him for turning up

Woo: It’s ok that I brought Eun Ae right? – he asked looking at everyone apart from Taeyeon
Jess: Ye, it’s fine, Taeyeon says how much she misses Eun Ae – she added patting the little kid on the head. Taeyeon smiled slightly at Wooyoung who seemed fidgety.
Woo: So erm…
Soo: The guys are over there if you were wondering – she said helping him out.
Woo: Ah, thank…. – he then bent down and spoke to Eun Ae- ‘ I’m going to talk to ahjussi’s friends so you can talk to your unnie, I know how much you miss her – he smiled. Eun Ae, nodded and clung onto Taeyeon’s side. He bowed to them once again not saying much and headed towards s.
Hyo: Well that was…
Yoona: Awkwaaaaaard.
Hyo: Ye, that. – Taeyeon was in a trance but soon snapped out of it at the sound of Eun Ae’s voice.
Eun: Unnie! Have you blown out your candles yet? – she asked excitedely
Tae: No, not yet… but we will soon, you have to help unnie blow it out okay? – she smiled.
After a while the cake was finally brought out with everyone gathering around Taeyeon who was surrounded by her members with Eun Ae by her side. Wooyoung looked on adoringly, she looked extremely beautiful with a simple blue dress, hair in a bun and make up done faintly. His thought was interrupted by the singing

ALL: HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR TAEYEON ! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUUUU!
There was an eruption of cheers and applause as she blew out the candle

The members then began their speech about Taeyeon

Sun: Do I really have to do this? It’s so embarrassing saying it in front of everyone. Taeyeon ah, you know how much I love you and care for you. So please, whenever there is something on your mind let us know ok? Let’s make many more memories together, Taeyeon ah happy birthday! And saranghae. –she said the last part so cutely which almost made Yuri strangle her.

Jess: My beloved Taengoo, we haven’t spent a lot of time together lately since we’ve had time off, why are you neglecting me – she pouted cutely, causing Taeyeon to laugh – ‘ we may not spend a lot of time together all the time but I’m always watching over you don’t forget that? I’m always here for you, we all are, you’ll forever be our kid leader, I love you and happy birthday.

Tiff: Byuntae!
Tae: YAH! – the people were laughing
Tiff: I’m kidding, but I wanted to just say happy birthday, I’m happy that I am able to be here to celebrate it with you. You’ve been so tired lately with promotions and things. It worries me sometimes that you bottle things up instead of letting us members help you. We’re a team remember? – she winked at her and wrapped her arm around her shoulder- ‘ Taeyeon ah, I thank god that you are here with us today, because without you there would be no SNSD – Tiffany along with the members began tearing up.
Tae: Aigo, my make-up – the girls laughed at her childish comment. Eun Ae looked up at Taeyeon with a blank expression which made Taeyeon laugh.
Eun: Unnie, you shouldn’t cry – she reached up and slowly wiped Taeyeon’s tears
Tae: Aish, this kid is too cute – making her tears fall even more.

Hyo: Taeyeon ah, you know I can’t express my feelings well! But happy birthday, I love you. I wish you many more birthdays to come – she smiled warmly

Yuri: Taeyeon ah, I can’t believe it’s your birthday again, it’s been a year already, and we’ve made so many memories. I hope for once you are selfish and make yourself happy rather than everyone else. We love you now and forever, happy birthday!

Soo: Unnieee – she said in her horrible aeygo – the members gave her a playful death glare when she called Taeyeon Unnie. ‘ you have no idea how thankful I am to have you in my life, sometimes you treat me like a younger dongsaeng and an unnie. I feel that sometimes I am not always there for you as you are for me, and for that I’m sorry. Kim Taeyeon, saranghae, and happy birthday! – she beamed, while tears were streaming down her face.

Yoona: Unnie! Happy Birthday… another year older but another year shorter! – the danshins were taken aback
TaeSunHyo: Yah! Yoona! – the crowd were laughing at the girls’ dorkiness
Yoona: But unnie, the love you have for those around you is forever growing, I hope that you would open up more, even though we’ve all been togheter for so long you still think you are able to hide things from us, shame on you Unnie – she wagged her finger and pouted cutely. ‘ Unnie, I and the members love you very much, I hope to share many more birthdays with you. I love you. – she smiled cutely
It was now the maknae’s turn, but it was obvious that she had been crying from the very first speech. Despite her image of the upright girl who’s response was logical and precise as a lawyer the members knew she was just as innocent as a 3 year old girl.

Soo: aigo… our baby is crying. Seohyun tried to wipe her tears but it was no use. Taeyeon looked at her warmly and mouthed ‘ fighting’ followed by an encouraging smile.

Seo: Un…Unnie – she said in between her tears falling  -‘Aigo… ‘ – she took a deep breath trying to compose herself. ‘ Unnie, thank you, from the bottom of my heart. I know I don’t express it too much but I am grateful to you. I know I am stubborn yet you are patient and understanding of me, I wish I could be the same for you’ – her tears began falling again, but this time she decided to continue despite her words breaking and sounding muffled – ‘ Unnie, ou… our wonder…ful leader and si…sister, I hope you’re able to put up…with me for many years, because I … I don’t … know…what I would do if – her tears were now falling heavily as she turned to face Taeyeon ‘ I don’t know how I’d cope without you Unnie’ – the members were shedding their tears as Seohyun forced out her words. She was now covering her face but she quickly finished her speech ‘ UnnieILoveYou’ – she quickly sat down and kept her head down.
Taeyeon’s eyes were watering she made her to the maknae and hugged her tightly. Sunny quickly took the mic and spoke to the crowd
Sunny: Aigo… I didn’t think it would be this emotional – the crowd laughed warmly – ‘ TAEYEON AH HAPPY BIRTHDAY! WE LOVE YOU… everyone let’s enjoy the rest of the night. And with that the DJ put on the music and everyone began dancing and mingling once again.

The party was going smoothly. It was around 11pm when Wooyoung made his way to Taeyeon. It was slightly dark so she couldn’t really see how he was staring at her.
Tae: Wooyoung – she said calmly when she saw him stood near her
Woo: I’m just here to say goodbye and thanks for letting us come
Tae: Don’t mention it… - she was quiet curios about something – ‘ why are you leaving so suddenly?’
Woo: I think it’s way past Eun Ae’s bedtime – he said jokingly ‘ I think it’s best for me to take her home’
Taeyeon didn’t really want him to leave but asking him to stay would not be right
Tae: Yeah… - she said disappointingly – ‘ I guess you’re right… well let me walk you both out’
Woo: You don’t have to, I’m sure you have many more guests to attend to’ – he said kindly
Tae: No, I want to… I want to say bye to Eun Ae as well.
Woo: Ok, - he knew it would be no use arguing with her
The 2 of them walked over to Eun Ae in awkwardly in silence to the members who were watching her
Woo: Eun Ae it’s time for us to go home
Eun: Noooo, - she moaned cutely
Tae: Aigo.. it’s already past your bedtime princess – she bent down to the little girl’s level and slowly pinched her cheeks.
Woo: you heard unnie. – Eun Ae just sighed in defeat, Taeyeon’s soothing tone always did seem to win over Eun Ae. The members watched the 2 of them with Eun Ae and they seemed like the picture perfect family. Well from afar at least.
Eun: Ok. Let’s go. – the little child bid the members farewell and headed out with Wooyoung and Taeyeon. Taeyeon and Wooyoung held each of Eun Ae’s hand and talked with her, forgetting momentarily what was going on with one another. When they reached the car Taeyeon caught Wooyoung’s eyes. It was soft and warm despite how hurt he was.
Tae: Thank you for coming, and for bringing her, it means a lot. – she said kindly.
Woo: Don’t worry about it. – he replied instantly.
Eun: Unnie. Did you like the gifts? – she suddenly blurted out.
Tae: Gifts? – she asked curiously
Woo: Omo. I almost forgot. How stupid of me. – he quickly opened the car boot and pulled out the gift bag. ‘ Happy Birthday from me and Eun Ae’ – he met her eyes and gave a sincere smile.
*Why do you have to be so good Wooyoung.’ – she asked herself.
Tae: WOW…. Thank you. – she hugged Eun Ae quickly but was unsure of what to do about Wooyoung.
Eun: Unnie, ahjussi helped too. – her response only meant one thing.
Tae: Erm, Thank you too. – she awkwardly moved closer to him and wrapped her arms around him. Wooyoung was so shocked he was unable to move and his body stiffened.
Woo: I … I, erm, it’s no big deal honestly… we should er, probably going
Tae: Oh, yea… of course, - she responded. The 2 got into the car with Eun Ae continuously waving until Taeyeon was no longer in sight. The party went long into the night but was successful in every way.
Later that night the members finally arrived home.
Yuri: what a night. My feet are sore!
Yoona: mine too!
The following morning Taeyeon decided to open her gifts. She was so happy to celebrate her birthday with those close to her and the gifts were just a bonus.
Soo: Ok this is the last gift
Yuri: Who’s it from?
Sunny: It says Eun Ae – the girls laughed expecting it to be a cute gift one to expect from a little girl.
Taeyeon slowly opened the intricately wrapped gift box. The members almost choked at what they saw.

Hyo: And last time I checked that child isn’t no millionaire. Well last time I checked.
Yuri: Open the other gift – she said quickly

Taeyeon unwrapped the other gift, and there was a smile stretched across everyone’s face

Taeyeon quickly opened it and noticed there were 2 cards, one big and one small

Happy Birthday. I hope you liked the gifts, you have no idea how long we spent looking for those! I guess I wouldn’t have been able to do it without Eun Ae, so all credit goes to her. J I hope you have a great birthday, I wish you many more happy memories to come. Be happy always.

Then she took out the small card.

To: Unnie

Unnie. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Did you like the gifts? I hope you did. Ahjussi wanted to find you the best gift, so even if you don’t like it, pretend you do Unnie  I hope you have a great day unnie. We love you.
