Chapter One

She was already dead. Not dead as in the heart stopping, skin purple-ing or the organs not working dead, but dead as in the my-life-is-over way. It wasn't the fact that she had lived her life as an angsty teen, but the fact that her English assignment was due in the next 30 minutes and she hasn't done anything on it. The clock ticked away as she sat helplessly in the library with only two words typed on the screen: Cha Yesol.

It didn’t help that the pressure of being surrounded by books was getting to her. She should’ve never chose to study in the library.

Chucking a small tantrum, Yesol flared her arms from side to side and kicked her feet viciously. With a high pitched squeal and the ruffling of her long locks, she plopped her head on her out-of-date laptop and left her cheeks to roll around the keyboard.

"I'm dead," she murmured.

"Sure you are," a voice, that if others heard, would mistake the young man for a young boy.

Without having to lift her head, Yesol already knew who it was. And with another small grunt, she replied, “Go away, Ten.”

“Is my little Wife having trouble with her assignments again?” mocked Ten.

In a swift movement, Yesol lifted her hand and tightly curled her fingers together. “You see this? This is a fist. A fist that I am not afraid to use,” she growled.

But Ten wasn’t done teasing Yesol. After all, that’s what best friends do. “Aw, my Wife is also having trouble with her anger management—”

In a blink, Yesol leaped from her laptop and clutched Ten’s collar, shaking him vigorously. “One day, Ten, one day!” she shouted.

With a small chuckle, he pleaded, “Okay! Okay! I’m done! I’m done!”

Yesol rolled her eyes and sighed as she unclenched Ten’s collar. Placing herself back onto her seat, Yesol slumped back on her laptop – this time, letting her forehead take all the keyboard. “I love you, Ten, but right now love just doesn’t exist in my vocabulary. And stop calling me Wife!” she mumbled.

He smiled. “Ah, sorry, I won’t.”

Knowing that she wouldn’t be able to stop Ten from being Ten, she gave up and changed the subject. “Then, do you know a website where I can attain an English paper?” she asked.

“That would be classed as plagiarism, and in your case – worse than failing English,” Ten replied.

Yesol looked up at Ten with the best puppy eyes and pouted lips she could make, and scooted closer to him. “Then, did you perhaps write up two papers…?” she pleaded.

“Of course”—he paused, to Yesol’s delight— “not.”

She groaned once again, annoyed at that fact that Ten had her hopes up high then suddenly disappointing her, again.

She banged her head on the table, causing everyone around her to stare. “Why. Do. You. Do. This. To. Me,” she said in-between every head-bang she made.

Ten gazed across the room and saw the other students around him staring at them. With a deep sigh, Ten placed his hand on her neck, trying to stop her from banging her head on the table. But to his dismay, it made it look as if he was the one hitting her head.

He sighed. “And this is the reason why I’m your only friend.”

Yesol paused and lifted her head for a split second to cry, “I’m your only friend, too!” and then continued to hit her head on the table.

Despite her relentless and obscure personality, also including the fact that she can be highly embarrassing all the time, Ten couldn’t help but smile at Yesol’s weirdness.

As Yesol was focused on how she was supposing to be dead, and Ten was focused on Yesol – the library door opened with a creak and laughs from familiar faces.

The moment those giggles chimed into Yesol’s ears, she perked her head up, leaving Ten confused. She had a full 360o change in her attitude. Her eyes turned gloomy as her lips quavered.

Sure, she still sees them from time to time, but never in the library. The place where they all use to call their second home.

Gulping, she felt a rush of nostalgia fill her bones. As she watched the two girls laugh their heads of, Yesol couldn’t help but become flooded with memories.

Back when they were young.

Back when they were foolish.

Back when they were happy.

As the two girls strutted towards their destination, one of them laid their eyes upon Yesol’s. Becoming startled, Yesol lifted her head and sat straight. The girl she locked eyes with gave her a gentle yet sympathetic smile. For Yesol, she was glad that she noticed her instead of ignoring her like the other girl.

The again, the girl who smiled at Yesol was classed as the Ice Queen of the school. Someone who is hard to approach, someone who has a poker face, someone who rarely smiles. But she looked at Yesol and gave her gentle beam.

Then, just like in slow motion, the girl lo
