350 Degrees Turnover

The next day came pretty easy and Youngran swore to not stay inside her room anymore, except if the curtain is closed. Chewing onto her pancake with chocolate sauce that her mother cooked for breakfast, she can’t stop thinking whether Jeonghan did see her in that state or not. Isn’t it obvious she would want the latter option? She would build a freaking tree house and stay there forever if he did.

“Hun?”

That snapped her out of her trance and her eyes turned towards her mother. “Yeah mom?”

“You left Jeonghan yesterday and went off to school first so I would appreciate it if you could walk with him today.” Looking at her mother’s face, she doesn’t like it one bit by the way her lips were in a straight line.

She was this close to choke on her meal and she gulped some plain water down to ease the sudden shock. “W-W-What???”

“You heard me. Go to school with him. I don’t like the silent argue that you’re having with him honestly,” Mrs Moon’s eyebrows were knitted together as a low sigh escaped her lips.

Youngran was about to deeply protest about how he’s a dog and she’s a cat which can’t be in 10 metre radius or they’ll kill each other when her mother raised a finger, shushing her for whatever excuses she could find. “Sure, he did change but are you not even curious to why he’s like that? Steadily and slowly, get to know the ‘him’ now and who knows? Maybe he’ll open up easier than you thought.”

Stuffing with her food, she made no respond to that although by the way she pasted a scowl on her face, her mother know that she did not agree with this, totally.

Youngran stomped her way towards the school with Jeonghan’s lunch safely tucked inside her bag. By what Mrs Yoon said to her just now, the guy left her behind because, well, they have mutual feelings of not walking to school together. Since he practically went out without his mother’s notice, once again he went to school without his lunch, not that he bother eating it.

To say that she’s angry is an understatement. One, she’s not his personal errand girl. Two, means that she has to meet him again. Three, she doesn’t like the number two idea. If it’s not for Mrs Yoon’s pleads, she would already give his lunch to the stray cats.

“I have a major ‘caring’ side inside of me and that’s not good.” She blew her bangs before resting her bag on her table. “I have approximately 15 minutes before the first lesson. Might as well give it to him now.”

Strolling around the school with a small bag in her hand, she searched around for his familiar silhouette up and down. She doesn’t think that it’s hard to search for him since he did have an unusual haircut than normal students. Biting her lower lip when she can’t spot him between the seas of people, she decided to just stop and think for a second.

A sudden flash of her past memory appeared in her mind before looking out of the window from the hallway. Trees… Why didn’t I think of that?

Now she kind of has a start where to look for him so she walked to the back of the building, deciding to try her luck there. If he’s not there… Well, tough luck. Class hasn’t even started yet and she doubt he’ll silently stay there like a good kid. Youngran peeked around her surroundings and she never really thought that Lady Luck will smile at her.

“Yoon Jeonghan.”

Jeonghan blinked his eyes open upon hearing Youngran’s voice. Before he could sit up on the wooden bench, her face came inside his view and she’s covering him from the sunlight at the same time. His heart skipped a beat for a moment, and it’s not because he saw her but it’s more of the scene reminded him of his childhood days.

“Lunch,” she muttered shortly and released the box from her hand.

If it’s not for his fast reflex, his lunch would slap him over his face right on the dot. He was about to sneer at her when she already flee, her job already done by the way. Pushing himself to a sit, he stared at the lunchbox that his mother made for him.

“What am I? Seven?” He snorted with a scratch of his head.

Staring at his lunch, a thought came inside his mind for a split second. How did she know I’m here anyway?

+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+

“He ditched me,” Youngran muttered with munching on Jungkook’s crackers. “Not that I mind or anything but then I have to be his errand girl.”

Jungkook’s chuckle flew to her ears and she was this close to throw the innocent biscuits to him. “Well, you two hate each other’s guts anyway so, too bad.”

“Damn you, Jeon Jungkook. Damn you,” she made a face making him to laugh again.

“Aren’t you gonna join me? It’s boring to play alone you know,” he cocked an eyebrow with his hand bouncing the basketball beside him.

“I’m not in the mood,” sighing, she leaned her back on the wall with her eyes on the clouds.

Jungkook shrugged and he dribbled the ball across the court before scoring 2 points for himself. Catching the ball back from leaping away, he faced Youngran with a tilt of his head, a question suddenly made its way inside his mind.

“Young-ah.” She turned to him curiously. “How did you know he was going to be there anyway?”

A small smile made its way to her lips and she let out a giggle, a finger on her lips. “It’s a secret.”

+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+

Days passed regularly and seem like the title ‘Errand Girl’ was stuck on Youngran since Jeonghan made sure to leave the house early. Even though he doesn’t want to eat lunch, his mother clearly shows her love to him by preparing lunch for him every single day.

Despite not taking his meal in the morning, he always brought back an empty lunchbox, much to her mother’s curiosity. Little did she knew, he actually shared them with his new friends. They never really asked about his background or pry into his privacy so he liked being with them.

Of course, he never said anything about having friends. Guys are never the talkative type you know. Youngran never really complain about having to be his courier again since she got some reward for it and that is Mrs Yoon delicious baked cookies.

A week passed just like that and Youngran never thought she would come to school late again. It’s rare for her but there’re times when she’s like that. Either she’s too worn out or slept too late.

She heaved out a content sigh when she arrived at her desk before the first bell rang. Jungkook’s happy grin greeted her and he lifted up something, making Youngran to look at him using the corner of her eyes.

“Pizza coupons~ Yeah~ Bless my cousin.”

I almost forgot that he lost the basketball match a week ago. Great. It’s been a while since I ate pizza too so it’s a perfect timing for me. “Yeah. Bless whoever that person is. You know my usual right?”

“Are you going somewhere?” His grin was replaced with a raised brow making him weird out.

“No. I’m protecting myself from a near-death experience, stupid,” she joked and he finally got her meaning. “Ahhh! How could I forget? Okay, I got it, other than that. No biggie.”

+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+

Youngran frowned when she felt something else inside her bag. Taking out whatever that was invading the space in her bag, she blinked at the 2 lunchbox oddly. How could she forget that one of them was Jeonghan’s? It seems like she didn’t remember about it at all.

“Young-ah. Aren’t you coming?” Jungkook called her from the door.

He turned to look at the two meals and he ought to have a clue why she just froze. Although he felt pity for her sometimes, at least she has someone else to talk to besides him, though he still hates the guy.

“Oh. You go on first,” she gave a short reply and he left with a shrug. “Sure.”

She strolled towards the now-familiar place like usual but frown when she doesn’t see him anywhere. “He’s… not here…? I don’t even know his class…”

She pulled out her phone from her pocket, wanting to text him his whereabouts but she just realized that she doesn’t have his number.

“Yoon Jeonghan… Where the heck are you?”

+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+

Jeonghan didn’t even flinch when Youngran just barged inside his room out of the blue but he still shot the girl a glare for banging over his door when all she could do was knock. Pausing on his mp3 player, he glanced at the girl, asking her to shoot whatever that was on her mind.

She didn’t really notice his glare and she snatched his phone that was on his shelf, pulling it from its charger at the same time.

He was about to bark at her ridiculous action when she immediately blurt out. “What’s your password, or pattern, or whatever?”

Her question was directed about his phone and he stole it back from her hand with an obvious twitch of his eyebrow. “It’s none of your concern.”

“It is. I couldn’t give you your lunch today since I didn’t know your location during the break. I can’t message you since I don’t have your phone number,” sneering, she muttered with a glum face.

He was about to retort when a chime appeared out of nowhere making them both jump in surprise. Youngran looked over her phone to see an incoming message from Jungkook.

Where are you…? -_-* -Kookie

Jeonghan doesn’t really want to know about the content of the message but he kind of read it, accidently anyways.

Home. Why? O_O

Pizza!!! Don’t tell me you forgot? =3= -Kookie

Omagawd. Sorry…? ^_^;;

MOON YOUNGRAN!!! OAO** -Kookie

“Okay. Let’s put a stop to that. Anyways,” she almost snort at Jungkook’s reply and turned to Jeonghan again. “You kind of see the use of having each other’s phone number so give me yours.”

“How about no?” he snickered mockingly, obviously pushing her buttons more than he should.

Feeling determined, she tried to take away his phone but he, using his height advantage, lifted his phone up, doesn’t giving her a chance to rob it back from his hand.

“Yah!” She growled meanwhile he scoffed at the rude calling. “Yah? I’m still older than you, midget.”

“Gimme!”

“Why should I?!”

“Stop being secretive, stupid!”

“It’s mine so I should be secretive!”

Before they know it, she had fall over him and they were brawling on the floor, just for his freaking phone number. -_-;;

“Kids…?”

Both looked over to the door and Mrs Yoon blinked at the teenagers in fascinated. She rose up her phone as they stared at the white coloured technology questioningly.

“If you want Jeonghan’s number, you can just ask me, Ran-ah. And please stop fighting. I can hear your shouts from downstairs. I’m afraid if our neighbours will hear too so I came.”

+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+

“I’m sorry auntie. I should have given him his food before.”

“No, it’s totally fine. At least he ate the ones from last week, sweetie,” Mrs Yoon beamed in happiness as Youngran felt like smiling as well.

“I don’t know his class and where he usually hung out so it’s kind of hard to detect him inside the school. Not to mention the school is pretty huge itself,” the girl heaved out a sigh as she bit onto the butter cookie.

“Well, at least you know his phone number now,” the older lady giggled with her eye-smile teasingly.

“Har har. I hope he’ll have the decency to answer to my texts and that was probably, highly unlikely,” she laughed mockingly, complaining at the same time.

+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+

Youngran took her phone that was on her nightstand before swiping it on. Staring at Jeonghan’s number that she just get a hold of from his mother which she had saved under ‘Jeong Stupid Han’, she comprehended whether she should try texting him or not.

Not that she’s anticipating him to answer her or anything… But, whatever.

Yah. Where were you during today’s break?

She bit her bottom lip anxiously while waiting patiently for his reply. She doesn’t know why she would feel nervous for but when 5 minutes have gone by and she hadn’t gotten anything, she kind of felt a teeny weeny bit disappointed.

“Why would I wait-”

Chime, chime~

Out of shock, she flipped her phone out of her hands, nearly pitched it away from her. Reading over the text she received, a vein clearly popped out of her forehead.

Not your business *mehrong* -Jeong Stupid Han

“Ugh. Go die,” hissing in anger, she chucked her phone inside her desk’s drawer before closing it shut harshly.

He did answer but it’s only consisted of word that gets on my nerves. Why am I not surprise?

Pulling her blanket higher, Youngran kept quiet while waiting for her eyes to rest themselves. It’s nearing midnight and she actually has to sleep now if she doesn’t want to get up late.

Right when she was about to fall to her deep slumber, she heard a chime coming from her drawer. Patting over for her phone, she read over the message that just arrived now.

Rooftop, stupid. Don’t let the bugs bite. -Jeong Stupid Han
