350 Degrees Turnover

~=x=~=x=~=x=~=x=~=x=~=x=~=x=~=x=~=x=~=x=~

It’s a brand new day and for school students, Friday is the best day ever. I don’t think you would have to ask why. Unfortunately for Youngran, it’s the end for her happiness since Monday finally rolled in.

Youngran slammed her palm over her alarm clock while kicking the blanket away as her morning exercise. She worked out for 15 seconds today. That’s a progress. Yawning, she sat down on her bed before turning over to look at the clock.

“Huh? 6? It’s only 6:30? Wait. That’s not 6! That’s 7!” Scrambling up from her bed, Youngran pulled her tank top over her head and threw them inside the laundry basket along with her shorts.

Wrapping herself with a towel, she stormed inside her private bathroom to get ready for another school day. While waiting for our heroine, let’s have a talk.

How is the relationship between her and Jeonghan for the last weekend? Long story, short, no progress. From what I know, she spent her time with Jungkook and his close friend neighbours. Playing basketball. Yup. She plays basketball and hung out with boys.

Maybe that’s one of the reasons why more than half of the girl students at school hate her. And no. She does not have any girl best friends. Not if I remember correctly.

Youngran went out of the bathroom, fully-clothes now, wore her sling bag over her head and hopped down the stairs towards the kitchen for her breakfast.

“Mom, I’ll be going now!” She shouted with a toast in , trying to do her tie the moment she went to the front door.

“Wait! What about your lunchbox?! Moon Youngran!” Mrs Moon yelped but her daughter already shut the door behind her. “That girl… At least I knew that trait didn’t come from me.”

+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+

Meanwhile at the other house where the pretty boy is living which was supposed to be beside Youngran’s house, Jeonghan already finished wearing his new school uniform when he suddenly looked at the other house’s balcony.

The curtains flowed slightly due to the wind, showing Jeonghan something that he shouldn’t have seen. Before he could see something inappropriate, he turned himself away from actually seeing Youngran and went to snatch his bag from his already neat bed.

“Moon Youngran. You never change,” a small snort escaped from him in amused.

Jeonghan stepped down the stairs and he made a straight line to the door. Mrs Yoon saw her son made his way towards the exit and before she could call for him, he already closed the door.

“Can Jeonghan go to the school by himself? Doesn’t he need our help?” She asked her husband worriedly.

“You worry too much. School kids nowadays have legs and brains that they can use. He likes his alone-time the best now more than spending time with his family,” he replied while munching onto his sausage.

Reaching over the glass, he wanted to take a sip but he didn’t taste anything. “Where’s my milk?”

“Stop drinking milk… Here’s some Orange Juice,” pouring a glass of juice, she gave him his drink. “No. I want my milk. If you’re not lazy, you can make some Chocolate Milk for me.”

“What are you? 10?” She frowned at his husband’s stubborn personality.

“Plus that with 35. That’s my age.”

+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+

“Why are you here already?” Jungkook came inside the classroom and his eyes widened slightly when he saw Youngran with a few other students that came early.

“I forgot that I have class duty today,” she answered lowly as she had her chin rested on the broom’s stick.

“Oh. Figures… That ,” he snickered, totally enjoying her glum face.

“It’s more to be laughed at by you.” Youngran almost sweep Jungkook away from giving more of his germs in the class. “Don’t forget you owe me pizza.”

Jungkook banged his forehead over his desk with an exasperated sigh. “Stop mentioning that.”

“Pizza. Pizza. Pizza. Your team lost so I’m currently waiting for my meal. I’m sure Jimin oppa, Suga oppa and Hoseok oppa are waiting just like me.”

“Imagine as if you’re going to feed 4 dinosaurs, not elephant, with boxes of pizza. It’ll be more than 5 so please, I’m begging you. I don’t want to think of my drastically decreasing allowance this month,” he mumbled under his breath.

“Puhlease. You’re being a melodrama guy where they always shed tears inside the TV. It won’t be more than 10, I promise.”

Jungkook was about to retort when someone suddenly butted in between their bicker. “Can you guys lower it down? I’m trying to study.” The Class President cut them out between their conversation and they both immediately shut it up.

+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+

“You can start introducing yourself, new student,” the teacher spoke out.

Jeonghan scanned around the class for any good seat in boredom. Of course he noticed the odd eyes that were staring at him, probably because of his different hair or maybe his handsome face. He never liked being an attention, not when as if people stare at him like he just broke out of jail.

“Yoon Jeonghan.” When he saw the perfect place for him, his tone went down an octave. “And I won’t tolerate peasant. Don’t ever talk to me. I don’t need a tour either.”

He made his way to that one seat and plopped down comfortably. He just marked that place as his territory so he would appreciate it if anyone didn’t cross his line if they don’t want a chair being thrown to them.

“That was… unusual… Okay students, open up your books,” the teacher shook his head weirdly. He must be one of those disobedient kids, looking at his attitude that is.

+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+

“It’s your first day of school and you’re already skipping?”

Jeonghan peeled his eyes open, clearly frustrated when someone disturbed his afternoon nap and he sat down on the bench. Looking around his surroundings, his eyes stop at the orange copper haired guy who was sitting on the wooden bench that was beside the one he’s lying down on.

“Hi. I’m Joshua,” the guy gave out his beam, a small wave along the way meanwhile Jeonghan just stared at him emotionless. “It’s common courtesy if you introduced yourself after I start first.”

“I didn’t ask you to,” Jeonghan rolled his eyes irritably before lying back down but this time, he closed his face with a random book that he took out from his bag.

He felt the book being lifted up from his face and his eyes twitched upon meeting eyes with Joshua’s twinkling ones. “You seem pretty annoyed.”

“It’s cause I am,” snatching the book back, he shot the other guy a look before continuing his nap that was interrupted a few minutes ago.

Jeonghan heard his teasing chuckle and he pulled the book away from his face, feeling irked by his continuous disturbance. “ off,” he grunted while facing the backrest of the bench.

Joshua didn’t really flinch at the curse word and he just snorted it off, mostly amused by the long haired guy. “Care to hang out with my friends? Most of them had similar personalities like you.”

Jeonghan didn’t give a damn and he dozed off in between Joshua’s talking, already inside his dream land since he had a lack of sleep recently.

Joshua noticed Jeonghan who didn’t move as he heard a soft snore coming out of him. “Yeap. He’s knocked out. Maybe I can drag him during lunch break.”

+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+

Lunch break came soon enough and that’s cue for Jeonghan to wake up from his slumber. As he was rubbing his sleepy eyes, Jeonghan felt someone was pulling him away to who-knows-where. He doesn’t have enough time to react when his steps stop right in the middle of nowhere, according to him that is.

Wait. He’s not nowhere. In fact, he’s actually on a rooftop, with other boys that he can’t recognize that is. He was about to scratch Joshua’s playful grin from his handsome face when he noticed the other pair of eyes that were boring their stares on him making him pretty much uncomfortable.

“I’m out,” Jeonghan immediately blurted out and before he could take a step back, a hand had grip over his wrist, preventing him from moving an inch. “Let go, .”

“Come on. A single lunch won’t hurt,” he was dragged out of his own will and he was a little surprise by how strong Joshua really is despite the gentleman aura he was giving to others.

“Guys, meet Yoon Jeonghan,” Joshua introduced the guy beside him cheerfully.

They only stared at the long-haired boy in silent and Joshua kind of see a plastic bag flew by thanks to the wind. S.Coups was the first to move by closing his comic and he pitched the book to Joshua’s way. The guy didn’t move an inch and he easily caught it when it was only 20 cm away from hitting his face.

“Come on. The poor guy was alone,” he flung the book back to the owner with a shrug.

“I did not agree to this,” Jeonghan hissed lowly while his body was facing Joshua.

He felt something was coming straight his way and he managed to catch the apple that was thrown to his back. If it’s not for his strong instinct, the fruit would already hit him in the head, making him to fall down to the ground and that will be embarrassing.

“What’s your problem?” The long haired dude growled and tossed the red fruit back to Mingyu. “You’ve a pretty good sense of surrounding, man.”

Jeonghan stared at the sandwich on Seungkwan’s hand and he nudged the food to him, asking him to take it. He weirdly reached out for it and the guy let out a sheepish grin.

“Eat them. It’s really delicious,” the latter cheerfully chirped as he replied lowly. “Uh… Thanks…”

Although unwillingly, Jeonghan was now stuck with his newly found friends (?) and hate to say it but he’s actually having a pretty good time with the guys.

+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+

Jeonghan was lazily making his way out of the school gate with a strap of his bag on his right shoulder. He doesn’t know what to do next so he made a decision to just get back home and get some shut eye. He didn’t really get back to his class after lunch since he didn’t see the reason why he should.

Just when he was about to cross the street, someone had pulled his bag from behind as his steps turned to a halt. Looking over his shoulder with an eyebrow raised, he stared at Youngran emotionlessly and tugged back his bag harshly from her grip.

She almost fell down by the sudden pull but an arm had saved her by her tummy. His eyes flit to the other guy and Jungkook’s glare was shot towards him, not that he was scared of him or anything.

“Even if you hate being with Youngran, stop treating her like trash,” he stopped himself from sneering and only let out a mumble.

“I’m fine, Jungkook,” Youngran eased the tense atmosphere and she diverted her eyes back to Jeonghan. “Where were you? Why did you skip your class?”

“Is it any of your business? I think not.” He was about to go when Jungkook held him back. “Hands off.”

“She’s asking you nicely. Can’t you even appreciate that?” He had a firm line of his lips.

Jeonghan was about to slap his bag over the guy’s face but Youngran held back Jungkook’s arm, literally saving him from being knocked out by the pretty boy. “It’s okay, Jungkook.”

She turned her gaze back at him, only this time it was more firm. “Your classroom teacher, Mr. Do asked me about it. It’s not like I could give a reply since I don’t even know why. If you don’t want to study, what’s the point of coming to school? I hope you’ll explain the reason to him tomorrow.”

“Come on,” she dragged his best friend by the arm, away from Yoon Jeonghan.

“I swear, he’s being like a total bastard right now. No scratch that. He’s totally a bastard,” Jungkook cursed and he was this near to kick the trash can that was 50 cm away from him.

“Glad that you know,” Youngran heaved out a tired sigh.

+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+

“Honey?”

Youngran rested her headphone over her shoulders to look at her mother that suddenly poked her head inside her room. “Yeah mom?”

“Mrs Yoon wanted you to help her bake cookies,” she replied and Youngran’s eyes twinkled in excitement at the word ‘cookies’. “Really?!”

“Yeah. She messaged me just now so go and help her. Don’t forget to bring home some for me,” her mother nodded while showing her phone and she grinned in happiness. “Oh. Change your clothes too.”

Mrs Moon didn’t even close the door and Youngran already leaped from her bed, sprinting her way towards the house beside hers.

“This girl… I asked her to change and she didn’t even listen…”

She eagerly pushed the doorbell and she waited for someone to open the door for her. Hearing the footsteps nearing, she anticipated for Mrs Yoon smiling face greeting her but someone else just had to crash her lively mood down with her smile immediately turning to a scowl.

“What,” Jeonghan snapped irritably when he saw her on his doorstep.

She totally forgot about him staying inside the same house as one of the Yoon family member. Remembering back how she almost fell-flat to the floor by his action made her feel irked and irritated.

“Move,” she snapped back before pushing him to the side, stepping inside the Yoon’s property without his consent but she could care less about that. “Auntie~ I’m here~”

Youngran skipped inside the kitchen when she saw Mrs Yoon who was currently wearing her apron. The older lady eyes’ shined upon seeing the girl and she waved her closer as the girl obediently followed her command.

Jeonghan leaned over the wall of the kitchen’s entrance with a raised brow. He eyed her dark green tank top and also her white shorts with a scoff. Turning around, he went back to his room with a shake of his head.

+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+

“I always wanted a daughter, to be honest,” Mrs Yoon suddenly spoke up between their baking making Youngran’s eyes to divert to the older lady. “I always thought how it felt like if we bake a cake together for the only guy in the house, how she would talk to me about her crush in high school and how it’ll be if we’re going shopping together to pick a dress… I could only dream.”

Youngran felt that it’s kind of rude to intrude so she only listened attentively to Mrs Yoon blabber, although it doesn’t really sound like a blabber. As weird as it sounds, she kind of understood how she felt. Her mother rarely stayed home so she would want to spend some mother-daughter time too.

“It felt like a dream really when my husband said that we’ll be going back to Seoul and the first thing that I remembered though was you, and your mother of course since we’re best friend and all. When you were younger, your mom was always so busy that she can’t take care of you so I took her place for a few while. Jeonghan was the shy kind of kid so I’m feeling grateful that you became his friend.”

Youngran was about to respond with a modest “It’s nothing, auntie.” when suddenly Mrs Yoon blurted out about her appearance with a soft smile. “You’re getting prettier as you grew too, Ran-ah.”

Feeling blood rushing to her cheeks, Youngran shyly laugh while giving out her best beam. “T-Thank you.”

“You resembled your mother when she was young too. I recalled back when guys were desperate asking her out even though she’s not interested in love at that time,” she giggled lowly, her eyes still twinkling and she kept her gaze on the girl. “I bet you have some guys around you that took interest with you too.”

Youngran almost chocked on her spit and she looked at Mrs Yoon, her face turning scarlet. “N-No. I d-don’t auntie…”

“Well, that’s too bad…” She made pouty faces before a mischievous grin was slapped back on her face. “Then, what about my son?”

Youngran accidently scowled making her realized that she was indirectly opposed to the idea but before she could pull it back inside , a giggle had escaped the lady’s lips, making her more puzzled than ever.

“Oh my. Ran, you’ve become more interesting. Well, even I wouldn’t want to get myself involved with the guy that hurts me. I’m going to apologize again for his behaviour though,” letting out a sigh coming out of her lips, she shook her head disapprovingly before smiling meekly at her.

“No. You don’t have to apologize, auntie. It’s not like you’re the one who hurts me.”

“Guess like I’m loving Jeonghan too much that it hurts,” she sighed dramatically making Youngran to laugh. “It’s not wrong though.”

“Right? He should be taking care of my feelings more.”

Youngran was about to ask what she could help with when suddenly Mrs Yoon perked up. “It’s done! Time to visit the oven and be cookies~”

“What?!” She spluttered out in surprise, obviously didn’t see that coming. “I thought you needed my help?”

“Hehe. Noooo. I only need someone to chat with since my husband is always working and Jeonghan is always caging himself inside his room. The fact that I wanted a daughter didn’t help too so… I’m sorry?”

+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+~=~+

“Why am I doing this again?” Youngran rubbed her face exhaustingly with her other hand holding a tray that consisted of a plate of cookies and a mug of hot chocolate.

Mrs Yoon had actually asked her for help and that is, giving her son some snack. She badly wants to yell a ‘NO!’ but that would be too harsh so Youngran threw that option out the window. Debating whether she should knock or just abruptly push the door, her thought froze when the door opened by itself.

Jeonghan stared at Youngran with an eyebrow raised before flitted his eyes towards the snack on her palms. Without further delay, she spluttered the words that were scratching to come out.

“I-It’s yours,” she pushed the tray to him but he didn’t reach for it like what she wanted. “Who made these?”

“Your mom.”

“Glad,” he hummed and took a cookie from the plate. “Doesn’t want you to poison me anyway.”

Youngran was about to scoff when Jeonghan moved to the side, as if he’s giving her permission to go inside his room. A frown creased on her forehead as she turned to look at him oddly.

“Put them on my desk,” he muttered while munching onto the chocolate chip cookie, actually pulling the urge to grimace at the amount of sugar inside the snack.

When he left her behind to go downstairs, she just noticed his casual clothes, white tee, grey jeans and dark blue jacket, and it seems like he’s going out. Where? Youngran doesn’t want to know. He can take care of himself because of his grip on my hand the other day. Tch. Jerk.

Carefully, she went inside his room while looking around the interior in awe. “Whoa. He’s a neat-freak. Obviously my room is messier than this.”

All of his things were neatly arranged doesn’t matter if it’s his books, clothes or bed. His room seems similar with hers. The different one is the colour, hers being light blue and red while his was grey plus black, the neatness, hers being a little untidy while his are not, and the existence of a mirror, which she had one and it was combined with her cupboard while he had none.

She was so taken aback since there’s one time she went inside Jungkook’s room and she can’t walk without stomping on his shirt or pants. She actually felt blessed because no boxers in her sight at that time.

Resting the tray on his study desk, she diverted her eyes to his balcony to only have the shock of her life. “Wait a minute. He can see my room…?”

Thinking back to this morning’s event, she practically undressed herself without shame and she was so afraid if he actually saw her in her state. Feeling blush crept up her cheeks, she almost let out a groan but she was fast to run back to her home and close the curtain shut.

“Dammit, Moon Youngran… What the hell were you thinking, stupid?!” She growled and lied down on her bed, face-first, embarrassingly.
