U R

I...

It was an unconventional relationship to say the least, they weren't lovers of course but they certainly weren't just friends. At first Jessica thought that, maybe, she was attached to the other girl because of the guilt of leaving her baby sister behind to follow her dreams; Taeyeon was older than her and in certain ways obviously more mature but her baby face and how fragile she looked when she cried herself to sleep thinking no one else would hear just pulled Jessica like a magnet towards the kid leader.
So inevitably the two girls became friends, very good friends. Even amongst an extremely close group they stood out like a sore thumb, especially when the cameras stopped rolling; the space between them in the dorm couch was a little bit smaller, their conversations a little bit different, their hugs a little bit tighter.
Then Jessica realized her feelings towards Taeyeon were nowhere near little, nor were they just friendly like she tried so hard to convince herself. Because, no matter how hard she thought about it, your heart shouldn't do summersaults when you see a friend, friend's hugs shouldn't make you blush, touching your friend shouldn't make your thoughts completely incoherent. Taeyeon wasn't just a friend.
The next few days were hard, the blond was never big on self control but expressing herself was about as difficult as not doing it, which was just as confusing as it sounds. In the end, she just wanted to stay locked up in her room to prevent herself from doing anything stupid.
Until Taeyeon came into her bedroom one night, asking her if she was ok and self control was thrown out the window.
They had an unconventional relationship, especially in Korea, but they didn't care. Neither one of them bothered with labels so they made do with whatever time they could make between the rare empty dorm and unused practice rooms to just be themselves, not friends, not girlfriends, just Jessica and Taeyeon.
Thinking back, maybe she should have at least tried to put something like a post-it of some sort in their relationship because when it stopped, it just left her lost, broken and without any kind of closure, which was perhaps the worst part – the hope that things might just go back to the way they were and the ice cold bucket of water every time Taeyeon would turn her back towards Jessica was simply too much.
It began with a simple dismissal of one comment, then the leader's responses became colder and shorter until there were kept to the minimum necessary. Touches became short words, words became awkward glances, and then there was finally nothing left.
It has been two years already and she hasn't had the courage to actually go up to the object of her affection and source of all her frustrations to talk, that's all she needed to do, Jessica tells herself, but she just can't, and whenever she even thinks about trying, Taeyeon just shuts her out.
Drowning in questions and possibilities the now brunette girl misses more than just a few dance steps in the new dance routine the group's been practicing.
"Hey! Jessica, can you stop daydreaming?" she heard Yuri say with a half annoyed half teasing voice.
"Sorry, I was a little bit distracted..."
"I noticed" Yuri lightly laughed "And, although I would loove to know what goes on that little air head of yours I really wanna go home and for that you need to get this right"
"Yeah, yeah... You're getting more steps wrong than I am Kwon Yuri"
"As if you would notice if I was, you're so deep in your own head you can barely put one foot in front of the other" Yuri laughed and the brunette shot her an icy glare.
"Eonnies, do we need to go through this again? We need to practice" Seohyun said with an annoyed expression but she couldn't hold back a slight smile seeing as this was just routine for them, how the group worked, and so far it had worked out quite well.
"Your heard the maknae, girls, stop fooling around" Sunny almost shouted from the other side of the room "And shouldn't our leader be dealing with this?"
"I don't know, maybe you should ask her." The short girl who was leaning against a column playfully answered with a smirk on her face.
"C'mon Taeng, do something! We have to shoot the MV this week." Tiffany decided to intervene, seeing that if she didn't, they would be stuck in the practice room until next morning.
"Fine, Yuri stop your teasing and get back here!" The leader's voice had a definitive tone and Yuri complied without protesting too much. However the fact that during this whole ordeal, Taeyeon didn't even look towards one specific corner of the room didn't go unnoticed by Jessica, being the corner she was standing at, it was hard not to notice, and it hurt, it hurt so bad.

Another two hours and the girls finished practicing. It had been a stressful week and everybody was staying in the dorm to make things easier, transportation wise at least, because for Jessica it was certainly harder. To be within a 5 meters radius of Taeyeon was naturally hard but the coldness the other displayed towards her was even harder, it was normal nevertheless so she just had to keep telling herself to think about something else.
The eating competition between Sooyoung and Yoona was a good distraction; both of them were chewing on hot dogs that were supposed to be for all the nine girls, it was funny to see how unladylike two of the most beautiful girls in Korea could be though. Maybe she should just go for takeout tonight? Certainly there would be no food left after the girls little "game".
Even so, the distraction wasn't big enough (honestly, Jessica felt that the sun could start shining with the colors of the rainbow and it still wouldn't be enough) so all she could do was lye in bed, stay as far from Taeyeon as possible and, ironically, keep thinking about the short girl.
And just like that, another sleepless night had gone by. The clock stared back at Jessica, mocking and reminding her of the long practice day she still had ahead of herself.
Getting up, going through the same routine , laughing here and there, more practice. The day was reaching it's end just like any other and it would end just like any other. Somehow that thought irked Jessica to no end, somehow she felt she would self combust if she continued to ignore her problems. Maybe it was the lack of sleep she would later tell herself but at that moment she decided to trail behind the 7 girls who were absorbed in their own particular conversations. Jessica was now walking beside Taeyeon, who didn't seem to be so avid in avoiding her today.
32 feet separated them from the lively group ahead of them, it would probably be a while until one of them noticed they missing which would give her a fair amount of time to finally get some sort of closure.
Taeyeon felt her wrist being grabbed, a rather rough pull in her arms and a small thud, then the girl found herself trying to adjust to the dim lit room that she assumed wasn't being used in a while judging from the dust that was everywhere. A click snapped her out of her trance and she saw someone backing away from the door that was now, most likely locked.
"Jessica? Jessica, what are you doing?" The dark haired girl spoke in a calm tone that wavered just a little bit when Jessica got closer.
All red lights were going off in the brunette's head at that moment because, even though, she wanted the truth, the thought scared the hell out of her and she felt like she should just run away.
"We… We need to talk." Apparently her lips weren't in sinc with her brain, maybe they had their own agenda?
"What do we have to talk about? And why here of all places?" Taeyeon's voice was now a bit more shaky. Both girls were standing in a close proximity–too close for Taeyeon's liking.
"I couldn't talk to you at the dorm..."
"Why?"
"Because..." A short pause proceeded and while she thought of a reasonable answer to the question, she remembered the years of accumulated frustration and sadness and suddenly all her pent up emotions exploded.
"Because you keep ignoring me! Because you barely look me in the eye anymore! Because anyone else seems to be a better company to you! Because..." With each sentence she got closer to Taeyeon and considering where they first started, Jessica was now merely inches away from the other girl.
"Because you won't let me in..." Her voice died down together with her energy, her head now resting on the shorter one's shoulders.
"Because I think you hate me." By now her voice was almost inaudible, if there were any other sounds in the room, Taeyeon probably wouldn't have heard it. She almost whishes she didn't.
"I could never hate you Sica, how could I? After all we've been through, how could I hate you?" Her voice had now lost it's initial coldness and was gentle and comforting.
"I don't know but it feels like you do, why else would you do this to me? When you know how important you are to me."
The two girls stood like that for a few minutes that seemed to be hours. Jessica's head over Taeyeon's shoulder, her arms wrapped around the petite girl's frame while she feels soothing circles being draw on her back by the other girl's hands.
When she finally lifts her head, brown eyes catch her own and she couldn't look away even if she wanted to, which she doesn't. Another couple of minutes pass by. Jessica feels that if time was passing like how it felt it was, then people should already be celebrating Christmas outside this room.
In the completely silent room Jessica catches herself remembering how good Taeyeon's lips always felt against hers, how they molded together perfectly creating the best possible choreography, and she was now staring and wondering if they would still feel the same.
When suddenly, all thoughts were kicked out of Jessica's mind because Taeyeon was inching closer and closer until she felt the girl's lips and she was wrong, it did not feel the same, it felt so much better. It didn't last long enough though, not even close to enough and she feels Taeyeon pulling away. When Jessica looks up she sees the most frightened expression on Taeyeon's face, it was almost as if she had made the worst mistake of her life and the brunette couldn't ignore the pain in her heart right at that moment.
For a second they both stood there, staring at each other, but before the brunette could even begin to think of something to say Taeyeon had already started to quickly walk to the door, leaving her without an explanation, again. So she acted almost on instinct, and pinned the girl to the wall next to the door.
"No, you don't get to this to me! You don't get to ignore me anymore, you don't get to kiss me and run."
And then her lips where on Taeyeon's once again, she began to hungrily trace the girl's soft lips with her tongue, asking for entrance. When the dark haired girl moaned, she didn't hesitate to sneak her tongue into the other's mouth, exploring every inch once again and feeling every nerve in her body overload with electricity.
The kiss lasted until they could no longer hold their breaths, both girls stared at each other, Jessica's hands still on the wall by Taeyeon's head, preventing the latter from running, which was unnecessary since she apparently gave up on that the moment their lips met.
"Why?" It was a question that had been on Jessica's mind for a very long time but it wasn't her who uttered the word. The black haired girl in front of her had a storm in her eyes and it was beginning to come down her perfect face.
"Because I love you, I thought it was pretty obvious by now." The brunette smiled a bitter sweet smile, whereas the other girl had the cutest, most surprised expression Jessica had ever seen "But I think the biggest question here is, why did you kiss me now?"
Taeyeon's cheeks flushed a bright red almost immediately and Jessica couldn't help but to think that made her even cuter, if that was even possible.
"I... I just..." Those are just lovely moments aren't they? When words simply decide to crawl to the darkest side of you brain, probably with all those high school math and physics formulas that seem to vanish the moment you need them.
Loud knocks came from the door. "Somebody there? We heard noises, everything ok?"
They must've knocked some of the boxes that were piled in the small room without noticing it, that specific room was unused but the hallways were always cramped with busy people, it was no surprise someone heard something, actually the surprise was that it took so long for someone to actually come to see what was happening.
"We should probably go now." The brunette said in a whisper "We'll talk about this later, right?" The smaller girl only nodded in response.
"Please, don't forget it ok? And don't avoid me later... promise?" Another nod and both girls went out the door with some lame excuses they knew their juniors would buy, if not out of naivety, out of respect.

Upon arriving at the dorm nothing could be really done by either party considering there were seven other girls present and this was, probably, a matter better discussed in privacy.
The next few days were just as challenging in the sense of finding even a minute for a private talk as the group promotions started, but if anything, their little time alone proved to be a good decision on Jessica's part after all, since Taeyeon kept her promise and really did stop ignoring her, they even talked more and joked a bit almost like old times which made the brunette happier than ever, leading to her allowing herself to be more touchy towards the other girl but not too much of course, she wouldn't want to cross the line and push the girl away once more.
It was weeks later when their schedules cleared up, mostly, that Jessica managed to (drag) convince, after much persuasion, Taeyeon to come to her apartment – that may or may not have involved puss-in-boot stares, pouting, aegyo, to more aggressive tactics like (threats) small and suggestive comments about the girl's peas in a pod.
Now they were sitting on the living room couch in awkward silence, it was one those  occasions where time ceases to exist, at least apparently. Unfortunately it wasn't a  romantic atmosphere that stopped it and Jessica felt the need to say something (she believed she might lose her sanity otherwise).
"So... I think we need to talk about... us" Using that pronoun made her weirdly happy.
"Yeah, I guess so."
"Look, you know I'm not one for long speeches or things like that." Jessica took a long breath. "So I'm just going to say it, if you haven't guessed by now; I like you, a lot." She was looking into Taeyeon's eyes but the other girl apparently didn't feel like doing the same and kept avoiding to look at her.
"Are you serious? You're not playing some twisted game right now, are you?" The raven haired girl was staring at her lap and her voice was so low Jessica doubted she would've hear her if the apartment wasn't as quiet as a morgue.
"Of course not, I would never. Not with you."
Taeyeon lifted her head with a little smirk on her face. "So you would with someone else?"
A slight slap on the arm and a giggle was the response she got from the brunette. "No, I didn't mean that! Stop distorting my words Taengoo..."
The nickname brought back the silence of a few minutes ago but, at least, the awkward atmosphere was broken for about two minutes, which must've been some kind of record, given their interactions in the last few years. Soon the awkwardness came back and the brunette continued to speak.
"It feels like you're the one playing games with me though, why did you do that?  One day we were fine and then you acted like I was nothing to you." She hated how her voice cracked at the end of her sentence but, what the hell, right? Things wouldn't get any more awkward than this.
"I... I'm sorry, I was just so scared. Sica, I was falling for you, fast, and then..." All words seemed to be stuck at Taeyeon's throat but Jessica just reached for her hand, held it tenderly and waited.
"Then one of our managers came to me and said that he had seen us" The brunette gasped at that, she had been so absorbed in Taeyeon that the thought of being caught never crossed her mind "He said that he wasn't going to tell the company but that I needed to stop, he said he would keep us away from each other and that I should do the same or..." The dark haired girl wasn't crying but she was far from being ok.
"I never knew... Tae, how come you never told me this?"
"I thought it was best for me to keep it from you, I didn't know what you would do–what could we do? All I wanted was for you to be happy and I thought that maybe this would be the fastest way." Taeyeon was now looking at her like she hadn't in years and it made Jessica's heart flutter "I'm sorry if I hurt you, but I did the right thing right? You're happy with him now, aren't you?"
"Him? Who are talking about?"
"Tyler, he is your boyfriend isn't he?" Although Taeyeon's voice was calm, she could hear the hurt in the girl's tone.
"No! God, Tae, of course not."
"But there were some many times that I... Like when you went clubbing with him and his cousin in Hong Kong, I was certain..."
Past guilt flashed through Jessica's face. It was a long story as to why she had made such an irresponsible decision, she had apologized to both Yoona and Taeyeon for it, but she felt the need to do it once more "I'm sorry."
"It's ok, it was all cleared up anyway but that's not the point... I mean it just seemed so obvious to me that I..." Soft lips interrupted her from continuing her blabbering and, despite everything, she couldn't be happier. The kiss was gentle and sweet, it felt like all of the longing, all of the love that both of them held back during those years was being poured all at once in this one kiss. When Jessica pulled away she smiled sweetly "I like you—you, Kim Taeyeon. I'm not dating Tyler, I would only want to date one person, and she's sitting right in front of me right now." To hell with everything, she was not about to make the same mistake again.
"Sica, are you sure? What about the company? If they found out about us..."
"Shhh You've always thought too much about everything, Taeyeon-ah, it's simple, do you want to be my girlfriend? Yes or no?"
Taeyeon had her head lowered and was fiddling with her fingers in her lap. "Yes."
Jessica couldn't help the big smile in her face and the small shriek of happiness. "Then it's settled! See it wasn't so hard, was it?" Jessica smiled and gave the girl a peck on the lips "Maybe I should kiss you whenever you're thinking too hard..."
Taeyeon pouted and then a grinned "I can't help it that whenever I'm with you I can't think straight..."
The brunette couldn't help but laugh at the shorter girl's pun. "That was such a bad one, dork!"
"You love it." Taeyeon didn't remember the last time she smiled so much.
Jessica leaned in closer "I certainly do." And then their lips met again for what was the second and far from last time that night, all of their problems long forgotten.

"I don't like this."
Jessica was pacing around her living room, which held countless of precious memories of her and her girlfriend (the word still made her giddy no matter how many times she said it and, god, she said it a lot). They had been dating for three months and it was perfect, despite having to hide it even from their close members both girls were happy, this apartment had become their private world in which nobody could interfere but there were, of course, small fights like in every relationship.
"There's nothing I can do about it, Sica, please understand."  She wavered at Taeyeon's pleading tone but, even if she would never admit it, she was too jealous.
"There's always something we can do, there has to be. I don't want you to stage some dating scandal just for profit or some other stupid reason."
"I know, I don't like it either but it's not like I can just go to S.M and say that I won't do it because my girlfriend is jealous."
"I am not." The brunette pouted and Taeyeon was reminded once again of why this girl wasn't the ice princess, she was the cutest and most emotional girl she has ever met.
The raven haired girl slowly approached her restless girlfriend without her noticing. "Oh, but you are and it's adorable."
She got closer.
"Am not!"
When Taeyeon was close enough she wrapped her arms around the other girl's waist gently, giving her a back hug and leaned her head on Jessica's shoulder.
"I love you." She said dangerously close to the brunette's ear. "Only you and nothing will change that, certainly not some pretend date with a guy won't change it."
She moved her lips to the base of Jessica's neck, barely touching the skin but, unknowingly, stirring butterflies to the other's stomach. "I love how smooth your skin is." She stopped and kissed Jessica's neck softly. "I love how perfect you neck is." Taeyeon's arms held tighter to the brunette's waist. "I love how your waist fits perfectly in my arms."
Jessica felt herself being turned around and was met with brown and loving eyes staring back at her. "I love you. All of you and I wouldn't trade this for anything."
She almost couldn't remember why she was mad in the first place but she would play her cards right, keep up with the charade.
"Show me then."
And Taeyeon did, all night long.

People say that hardships bring people closer, Taeyeon was experiencing that first hand, the public wasn't taking her "dating news" very well and it hurt her to know that she could've stopped it, prevented her fans from being hurt. Maybe she should've listened to what Jessica had said before, she said it wasn't a good idea but Taeyeon thought that disobeying the company would bring attention to their relationship. Maybe that was foolish of her, who knows what they...
She felt soft lips against her own, breaking her spiral of thoughts.
"You were over thinking again." It was new for her how a smile from Jessica could make her forget everything, a kiss though could make her forget her own name.
They were lying in bed since they had a little brake from their busy lives and Taeyeon was more than happy to immerse herself in that little bubble where only she and Jessica existed.
"I told you not to worry so much, S.M will clean their mess and people will forget soon enough."
"I know, sorry, I shouldn't be spacing out like that during our free day." She responded with an apologetic smile and was answered with a small giggle.
"I thought that was my specialty, spacing out."
"Maybe I'm spending too much time with you then, I bet it's contagious... I think I should stay away..." Taeyeon smirked while she started to get off the bed but was pulled back down and got a playful slap on her thigh.
"Meanie!"
"This meanie loves you though." She smiled at the brunnete girl who was clinging onto her.
"I love you too." Jessica said and gave her a peck on the lips. The girls stayed entangled in bed with Jessica playing with Taeyeon's hair. "You know? I think black hair suits you the best."
"Really now? I liked your blonde hair better though..." The raven haired girl answered in a playful tone with a smirk plastered in her face.
"Not funny Kim Taeyeon! I was serious."
"Who said it was a joke?" The shorter girl said and laughed until Jessica's hand came in contact with her arm leaving a red mark in the shape of her palm on the milky white skin. "Ouch! So violent... Being with you is seriously dangerous Sica."
"Told you it wasn't funny." Even so the girls in bed were laughing without a care in the world. They took their time to enjoy each other's laughter, each other's warmth, just enjoy each other until they calmed down and Jessica said.
"Can I ask you something?"
"Of course, what is it?"
"When did you start to have feelings for me?" The brunette asked shyly hiding her face on the crook of Taeyeon's neck while the latter let out a small laugh.
"Hum... The moment I first saw you?" The black haired girl laughed once again. "I wouldn't say it was love at first sight, though I also wouldn't say it wasn't either. When I first laid my eyes on you, I knew I wanted to get to know you. I guess you got me hooked from the start." Taeyeon smirked. "But I have to say, I was really relieved at how dense you can be"
"What? I am not! I think so..."
"Oh, c'mon Sica, you took a pretty long time to first kiss me " The cocky smile playing on Taeyeon's lips was, at the same time, the hottest and the most annoying thing Jessica had ever seen.
"In my defense, you didn't do anything either—not even to show me what you felt."
"Not true, I cake off your face Sica, you don't just go your friend's faces like that, aaand I kissed you through that scarf, remember?"
"Well, the scarf doesn't count so technically I made the first move." Jessica said with a small smile but a determined look in her eyes and knowing how stubborn her girlfriend could be Taeyeon decided to drop the subject. Comfortable silenced engulfed them both again until the brunette said.
"Taengoo?"
"Hmm?"
"I have to tell you something..."
"What is it Sica? Something wrong?"
"No, I mean, not exactly. It's about Blanc, I think we'll  be ready to launch in a a few months."
"That's awesome, congrats!" Jessica felt Taeyeon embrace her tighter "Just don't push yourself too much, I don't want you getting sick because you're over working yourself"
"About that... I've talked to Tyler and our managers and they said it would be best if I were to go on a hiatus from the group." She looked up at Taeyeon, who had a blank expression on her face, so Jessica hurriedly added "Of course it wouldn't be immediately, I would still be there for our next come back but when things quiet down a bit then..."
"I don't know what to say, have you talked with the others about this?" Her voice was steady, too calm, emotionless, Jessica learned to recognize that voice during some interviews and formal meetings. Years on the entertainment industry taught all of them to control their speech despite the turmoil inside; didn't stop Jessica from hating it though.
"No, not yet. I thought it would be better to tell you first."
"Sooyeon... I want nothing more than to be selfish right now but I also want you to be happy and I know that if this will make you happy I can't be the one holding you back." A pained smile appeared on her lips.
Jessica locked eyes with the girl in bed with her and all she could think of was how much she loved her.
"Thank you, Taeyeon, you don't know how much this means to me."

Everything was finally decided, telling the girls about Jessica's hiatus was certainly the hardest part, harder than having to work the details with their company, inverstors and whoever else in life consuming meetings - thank god for Taeyeon though, for keeping Jessica sane through all of that, because nothing could be better than the feeling of opening her front door to find a certain petite girl in her kitchen saying she wouldn't want her to burn down such a nice place, to which she would pout until the dark haired girl gave her a peck on the lips and told her go wait in the living room.
Having Taeyeon like that, however, was a luxury since both of them were never on a routine and conflicting schedules never seemed to give them a brake. They did get some alone time after they filmed the new Japanese MV that was suppose to reassure the fans, Divine, but it was cut short thanks to Jessica having to go back to New York.
Speaking of New York, that was when it all started to go downhill. After working out some business in the city, she was ready to head back to Seoul and from there China, until she got the call.
Working for so many years under S.M Jessica certainly didn't expect to be let go, especially not through a measly phone call. It was short but deadly "In light of recent events, it was decided after some deliberation that you should no longer be a part of Girl's Generation."
Jessica pushed for more details, very much so, but she was only given a subtle hint that these "recent events" were related to her relation with Taeyeon. At which point desperation struck her, if she was being kicked out then they probably decided to keep Taeyeon and if so, she could only imagine what kind of things a press release made by S.M would say about her.
The brunette immediately decided to do what she could to protect herself, make use of the power of social media, and post about it before they could do so and, hopefully, save at least her own skin from being devoured by the lions that is the public opinion. So on the next day she had already written and posted her version of the story. Soon after she received another call, a much more pleasant one at that, Jessica almost felt like crying upon hearing the girl's voice on the other end of the line and she knew her girlfriend felt the same.
"Hey, Taengoo."
"Sica, I'm so sorry—I tried to stop it, I did, you have to believe me... But they didn't even..."
"It's ok, Tae, it's fine. I was leaving anyway and I guess they accessed our values to the company."
"God, I hate when you refer to us like some product." She knew, she knew how Taeyeon hated that  but it was the truth and she also knew that the raven haired girl understood it too.
"But I guess you're right, even so, it doesn't make me feel any better and it doesn't make this right."
"I know. We'll be fine, we'll get through this like we always did but for now I've gotta go."
"Ok, I'll see you when you get back home?"
"Yeah." She felt that she was about to brake, the tears were already pooling in her eyes and she knew her voice betrayed her.
"Hey, I love you ok? Remember that, remember that I'll always love you."
"I love you too."

In a bench on a Hong Kong park sat a figure that seemed frozen in time, a scarf on her neck and sunglasses covered almost perfectly her identity, still, the sunlight that touched her face gave her a divine glow which made her... unaproachable.
The one week old news on her phone told how a year ago Jessica Jung left Girls' Generation, truth to be told, she did feel free. Free from the idol shackles she'd had for almost as long as she could remember but she also felt that something was missing and she knew exactly what.
She thought of the girl miles away from her and it pained her heart more than she believed to be possible; some would argue that it was crazy to be so hurt over a few months relationship but she knew better, it wasn't a few months it was years of living in the same dorm, sharing their hard days with some perfectionist photographer, laughing at everything and nothing.
She'd seen the now blonde girl's solo debut and it amazed her how beautiful the girl was. She would have to admit, the new hair color was even more mesmerizing than the black she had before. Most importantly, Taeyeon looked happy.
The reflection of the setting sun on the lake blinded her for a few seconds, it remembered her of the first time she had seen a certain someone sing. Jessica then put on her earphones and a tear rolled from under the sunglasses as the music started to play.

U R my star.
