South Korea does not have a royal family, but the closes is the Kim family. Kim Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) is a well-known electricity company that have been pumping electricity into South Korea since 1961. The CEO is about to reach the age of retirement and wants his son, Kim Jong In, to take over his position very soon. It has been a traditon in the Kim family to find a suitor before taking over the company. The only problem this time around is that Jong In (Kai), is the most subborn male in the family history and is unwilling to settle, because of this Mr. and Mrs. Kim decide to hand pick 35 potential brides for their son and place them all in one building and Kai slowly send them home until he is able to fall in love with one. Most wealthy sons will go against their parent's orders, but Kai is different, although he is cold and subborn, he still respects his parents orders.

Choi Somi was a classmate of Kai's when they were in high school together, but fate brought them together when her mom entered her name into the competition. In Korea equality of gender is not well practiced, so the daughter is seen as the helper of the household and help the mother. Because of this competition, the selected potential suitors will have to leave their homes to live with Kai. So the Kim family will give the families of the females $2,000 a week in exchange for their daughter being away from home. The allowance goes for how long the daughter stays at the house. Since Choi Somi's family is not wealthy at the slightest, her mother and father used this an opportunity to get money because they are at the point where they are desprate, even if it means they would not be able to see their beloved daughter for god knows how long.
