Chapter 1
Lay Me Down“Ajusshi, please hold me Iammmsickkkkkk.”
A little girl with ponytails sways on her feet, looking a little green in the face. Immediately, I squat down, wanting to check if she’s alright. The little girl then almost trips reflectively, I hold out my hands and catch her. Deciding to just carry her, I hoist her up and she rests her head against the crook of my neck. I chew on my bottom lip and tilt my head from left to right.
Where in the world is this little girl’s mother?
Just as I’m about to ask her where her mother is or what her mother looks like or if she knows any contact information of her parents, she yawns wide and closes her eyes. Wait a minute… Is she… Is she falling asleep? Great. Now what am I going to do? She can’t fall asleep. Not now!
“Hey there,” I call out softly afraid that I might make her cranky or something. “Where is your mummy?”
“Hmmm…” She mutters sleepily, “Mummy is daddy.”
“Mummy is daddy?” I repeat, unsure of what this little girl is talking about. “Oooookay. So… Where is daddy?”
I look down and frown. My god. How can a little girl fall asleep so easily in such an unconventional place? Realizing that she is not going to be of any help, I decide to just walk around the hospital to look for any frantic parent looking for their child. There had to be one somewhere. I mean… Unless… This girl’s parent had plans of leaving her at the hospital alone.
“Yoora! Yoora!”
A handsome man with messy dark brown hair and golden smooth skin approaches me all of a sudden, shouting out a name I don’t recognize. He stops right in front of me, panting as he points at the girl I’m holding onto and I brighten up.
Oh!
This must be the father of the kid!
“You found her! You found her, thank god!” The man exhales roughly, breathing in and out. “And it looks like she just fell asleep.”
The man shakes his head, chuckling as he looks over at the girl who is soundlessly asleep, looking so comfortable tucked against my neck. “Well, I’m sorry about that. I just gave her some of her meds and she just ran off into the crowd and I lost her.”
“I guess I’ll take her, then?” The man holds out his hands and I dumbly realise that I’m still holding onto his daughter.
“Right.”
I move around but the girl has her hands tightly clenching onto my shirt. She stirs awake a little and then starts sobbing, digging her nails into my skin. I wince a little, frantic that the girl is crying.
“Come on, babygirl,” The man urges, rubbing her back. “We’ve got to get going now.”
“Aniya, daddy.” The girl whines, still holding onto me tightly. “Sweepy.”
The man frowns and shakes his head, looking at me apologetically. “I’m sorr
