It’s been a week since Yongsun last went to the café with the weird name. Her mind preoccupied by her cousin’s heartbreak and the tasks she has to do with work.

It was a Saturday, she worked until it was twelve am. It was indeed creepy to work in that huge school—with dark creepy hallways—but Yongsun managed to get out without shrieking like a four year old.

She was walking down the path where the café was. Eyes on the cement pavement while letting out huffs of exhaustion. People told her that she was an over-perfectionist, before; she’d think they exaggerated her habits but now she agrees with them.

Yongsun heard a grunt making her lift her head up from the ground.

She saw the (cute) black haired cashier lifting the signs off the ground then struggling to go up to the door.

Yongsun pondered for a moment, whether to get involved or not but when she saw the cashier yelping when she almost tripped backwards, her feet immediately caught up.

“I’ll help you.” She simply says as she pushed the door open, scooting back to make space so the cashier can get through.

The cashier looked surprised, wide eyes looking at her. opened, “T-Thanks.”

Yongsun only smiled.

The latter went back down to grab the last sign board and brought it in the dimmed café with the cashier’s help.

When the store is finally closed and properly locked—the cashier made sure for five times. They stood, staring at each other.

Yongsun suddenly noticed that the cashier is a bit taller than her, just a little, she hoped.

“Thank you for helping me earlier,” the cashier bowed, bright black hair softly falling down from being tucked behind her ears, “And sorry for delaying your trip. You must be tired, professor.”

Yongsun raised her eyebrows, “How did you know?”

“I went to the school you’re working at to deliver some cakes to one of your co-workers. You were there.”

“And that was?”

Yongsun smiled, “You have a good memory.”

“Thanks.” The cashier smiled, looked down again and started fidgeting with her fingers. Hesitantly spoke once more, “So…Where are you headed to?”

Yongsun pointed at the street on their right, “Just a few strides to get to my apartment. What about you?”

The cashier grinned, “I supposed I’ll have to walk with you. I’m heading to that road too.”

“Ah,” Yongsun nodded, feet turning to the street she just pointed at, “We better get going then, it’s late.”

The cashier nodded in agreement. “So what took you so long to get home? I supposed you worked all day?”

Yongsun laughed, “And how did you know?”

“It’s written all over your face, professor.” The cashier softly smiled, “Don’t get flustered, I just have a knack when it comes to reading people.”

“I can see that,” Yongsun teased. Surprisingly, she doesn't feel awkward around this stranger. “What about you? Why did you work until midnight? I read that your store closes around nine pm. It’s like, what? Twelve am now.”

“I had to…report to my boss,” The cashier’s voice trailed off, “I was actually surprised that she was there.”

“Ah…Is it the co-founder of the café?”

“Yeah, how did you know?” The cashier blinked. Yongsun thought she was cute.

“I read from an article somewhere,” the latter lied, “But I thought you have another boss? The one that attends to the shop every hour?”

“…She’s down with a flu since yesterday.”

“Oh, that’s unfortunate.” Yongsun frowned. She saw a glimpsed of her apartment’s building and inwardly sighed, “Well this is me.” She halted and so did the cashier.

The cashier looked up and nodded when she saw the building, “I’ll see you around, professor.” The black haired turned her gaze to her and caught her eyes. They exchanged small smiles. “Goodnight.”

Yongsun blinked, she watched the woman walk away until her back disappears in the night.

“…Goodnight….”

“Hey,”

Yongsun looked up and was surprised to see the cashier she walked home with three weeks ago, “Oh. Hi!”

“Fancy seeing you here.” The woman smiled.

“Yeah, it is.” Yongsun’s eyes travelled to observe her clothes. Surprised to see that she was wearing a hoodie and leggings matched with sneakers. So comfy and simple but the woman looked so stunning.

Yongsun can practically see her curves.

“What brings you here?” She asked, eyes finally going up to meet the black haired girl’s.

“I didn’t know that the library would be filled today,” the woman pouted. Yongsun finally saw the stack of folders and a book cradled in the woman’s arms. “Then I saw you alone so I was wondering if…I can share with you? I-If you don’t mind, that is.”

Yongsun nodded, “Sure.” She reached out to clear the desk in front of her and smiled back at the cashier’s grateful smile.

“What are you going to do anyway?”

“Finish whatever my boss wants me to do,” the cashier replied. Sighing as she flipped the page one by one, “What about you?”

“Just working on some of my student’s assignments. I can’t concentrate at home.”

“Ah,” Yongsun saw the cashier nod. “I’ll excuse myself for a moment. I need to cram for this,” she grinned sheepishly.

“Alright.”

Hours passed, filled with the sound of pages being flipped, pointed ballpoints hitting pieces of paper that are being filled with scratches.

Soon it was dinner time.

Yongsun and the cashier walked out of the library, small smiles on their faces as they continued to share light conversations.

“So I’m just a year older than you?”

“I supposed.”

“You’re done with college?”

“Yep,”

“So why are you still working in that shop?”

“…” The cashier only shrugged, wears a small smile on her face that Yongsun’s starting to adore for the past hours they spent together. “Where do you want to eat?”

“What?”

“It’s already dinner time. And I also want to repay you for helping me weeks ago,” the woman turned to her and nervously smiled, “I’m not a creepy stalker or something!”

“I know,” Yongsun laughed and softly pushed the woman’s shoulder. “Let’s eat some Japanese food, that fine with you?”

“Alright! I know one good restaurant that serves the best Japanese cuisine!”

“Hey, do you have time?”

“Well, it’s lunch break and someone’s going to cover for me soon.”

“Great! Let’s eat lunch, my treat!”

“Why?”

“Because I want to repay you from giving me good Japanese food!”

“But I did that because you helped me…”

“And I’m doing this because you also helped me,”

“How did I?”

“You’ll know if you come with me for lunch.”

“That’s a sly trick, professor.”

“Yes or No?”

“…Alright.”

“Yay!”

“What do you want for dinner?”

“Can we go eat something…Like western food?”

“Oh, sure.” Yongsun shrugs. She shifted the gear and started to drive.

“Professor.”

“Mm?”

“You know, that you and I don’t even know each other’s name and yet I’m here in your car. With you driving me to places so we can eat together. Aren’t we fools? And isn’t that dangerous?”

Yongsun laughed.

“I don’t know about you but I’m fine without the names.”

“…I’m Byul.”

“Byul?”

“Yeah…I supposed you can call me Byul from now on.”

A soft smile, “Alright. Hi Byul, I’m Yong.”

They laughed, “Hello Yong.”

“Unnie! What’s this?”

“Hm?”

“What’s with this cupcake?”

“What? I’m sorry it doesn’t taste as good as what you serve in your café but I tried my best.”

“It tasted great but what’s it for?”

“It’s been a month.”

“A month?”

“Since we met,” a shy grin, “I just wanted to celebrate it.”

“…Aw, you’re so sweet, Yongie~”

“Hey!”

“I’m wondering if I should dye my hair blonde, do you think it’ll fit me, unnie?”

Yongsun looked up from her cup noodles and tilted her head, “I bet you’d look nice in it.”

“Hm…”

“Want me to join you to the salon later? Maybe I can laugh at you if it turns out bad?”

“That’s very nice of you, unnie.”

“Of course, Byul.”

“You should try dropping the unnie and just call me Yong,” the eldest says after taking a right turn. Car softly swerving to that direction.

“Hm? And why is that?”

“It’s just our isn’t huge so,”

“Well if that’s what Yong wants.”

“Yongsun,”

“Hm?”

“My name is: Yongsun.”

A soft smile, “Okay, Yongsun.”

“And I supposed I’m still stuck with Byul?”

“You’ve already called my name a thousand times before.”

“Huh? Byulie?”

“Close enough. I’m Byulyi.”

“Oh,” a lopsided grin. “Nice to finally meet you Byulyi. Blonde suits you.”

A soft chuckle, “Nice to meet you, Yongsun. You look pretty in brunette. As always.”

“I’m going to be busy in a few weeks,” Yongsun took a seat beside Byulyi who scooted to make space for her.

“Time of the month?” Byulyi softly smiled. She eyed Yongsun’s cup and opened .

Yongsun scooped a spoonful and put it in Byulyi’s mouth, “Yeah. I have to handle the seniors this year.”

“Let’s pray for their souls tomorrow; hope they get a high grade,” Byulyi’s eyes twinkled. Yongsun smiles.

“You make such delicious fruits.”

“Thank you,” Yongsun laid her head on Byulyi’s shoulder. They continued watching the city from the rooftop.

“I really like this building because of this rooftop.” Yongsun spoke after a few minutes of silence. “I loved it now because I get to spend it with you here…I don’t know what to feel Byulyi…It feels like I know who you are…”

“…”

Yongsun pulled away to look at the blonde. A chuckle escapes .

She watches Byulyi breathe calmly, puffs of smoke escaping with each breath as she sleeps.

Yongsun’s eyes grew fonder. Unable to resist the soft smile forming on her lips, she finally whispered, “Goodnight Byulyi…”

It’s been two weeks since Yongsun last met Byulyi and it felt like hell.

There were times where she’s just so tempted to walk out of her office and catch a glimpse of Byulyi working but she knew she’d lose control.

She needs to be patient. Stay patient.

Because when all of this is over, she can go back to Byulyi.

They’d watch the city and the stars from the sky.

(The stars in Byulyi’s eyes.)

Yongsun sighed, index finger tracing the rim of her cup. She wondered how Byulyi’s doing, if the blonde hair still suits her.

Silly thoughts, Yongsun chuckled by herself as the image of Byulyi’s smile appeared.

She’s always pretty.

“Noona?”

Yongsun looked up from her cup and furrowed her brows at her co-worker.

“Your phone’s buzzing for the nth time already…”

“Oh, sorry!” She flashed a sheepish grin as her hands raced for the phone.

(Wonders if Byulyi misses her too.)

“Hello?”

Her eyes widened, “Oh? She’s spent? Where is she?”

“…Okay, I’ll be there.”

“There, there Seungwan, you might—oh god, nothing happened.” Yongsun yipped as she covered Wendy’s reddening forehead and continued to lead—drag—her to her room.

“You reek of alcohol,” Yongsun mumbled as she laid Wendy on the bed.

“Hnnm…” Wendy only groaned, nuzzling close to the warmth of her white blanket.

Yongsun only sighed, brushing Wendy’s fringes away from her face, sad that the breakup led Wendy to this state.

Her eyes, suddenly, caught sight of a face which she’s been longing to see for weeks.

“…” She scrutinized it and slowly, her hands reached for the frame, fingers grazing the smiling face.

Her heart pounded, her head hurt, her mind was jumbled into a mess.

“…Byulyi?”

Chapter 3: I really liked reading this chapter~
I don't know if it's a coincidence/planned/your style of writing, but right at the moment when I was thinking about how nameless their relationship is, you wrote the part about Byul telling Yongsun about them being strangers and all.
And like a comment made, I didn't think the cashier would be Byul!
