“Date? Oh no you’ve misunderstood Juyeon-ssi this….isn’t a date.”
Hearing him say that my heart sunk and I tried blinking back my tears. I can’t believe I’ve misunderstood his kind gesture as a date. I guess he doesn’t even like me in that way. “I-I-I know! Did I stay date? I meant a date as friends you know?” I stammered.
“Alright then…..have a goodnight,” he smiled patting me on the shoulder before walking away.
I stood there staring blankly at space. Why did this have to happen to me? Oh my god I feel so stupid! Sitting on the edge of the sidewalk I covered my face with my hands while sobbing lightly. I felt as if I was stabbed in the heart.
Suddenly my phone started ringing in my purse. Getting it out I answered it.
“So, how did the date go?” Yukwon asked through the phone.
“Sunbae…” my voice cracked as I spoke.
“Is something wrong?” he questioned sounding concerned.
“Can you come over to my house? I really need someone to talk to right now.”
He paused for a second before speaking “Sure, I’ll be right over.”
“Oh and while you’re at it, some beer would be nice.”

After I reached my apartment I took off my dress and washed off my makeup also untying my hair. I wore a white t-shirt and sweatpants before looking at myself in the mirror. “Finally, I feel like myself again,” I sighed. Just in time my doorbell rang. I ran to the living room to answer the door while trying not to trip on my dogs sleeping on the ground. Opening the door I saw Yukwon standing there with a pack of beer in his hand. He was also dressed comfortably in a white t- and some jeans, but nevertheless he still looked handsome.
“Come in,” I half smiled making way for him to walk in.
We sat on the ground in the living room with the table in front of us. It was getting awkward as none of us said anything, but he finally did.
“So ah–“ He cleared his throat. “I see you like dogs.”
I nodded.
He paused. “Are you going to tell me what happened at your date?"
“It wasn’t a date,” I answered straight forwardly grabbing a can of beer not hesitating to chug it down. As I set the empty can on the table a single tear rolled down my cheek.
He leaned in closer to me hesitating before brushing his finger across my cheek wiping my tear away. I was a bit taken aback by his action but I brushed it off.
“It was not even his fault,” I began, running a hand through my hair as more tears slid down my cheek. “I was just stupid enough to think that he actually liked me.”
Suddenly I felt him putting his arm around my shoulder in a comforting way. I leaned my head on his chest staining his shirt with my tears. “Don’t worry, you’ll find someone better,” he assured, his chest vibrating as he spoke. Looking up at him our eyes met. I think I already found someone better….
“Since we are having a heart to heart talk let me tell you a little about myself.” I sat up straight. “Remember when you offered to pick me up by your car and I got nervous and declined your offer?”
“Yeah?” he furrowed his brows.
“Okay let me tell you why.”
*Flashback*
“Mom! When are we getting there?!” My young self whined in the back seat as my mother drove the car.
Looking at me from the rearview mirror she chuckled, “Juyeon-ah you’re so impatient just like your father.”
“But Mom I’m bored!” I sunk down my seat sulking.
“My dear Juyeon,” she said sweetly. “Oh how much I love you.”
Then in a blink of an eye I felt my body jolt forward as our car crashed into a huge truck. Luckily I was wearing my seatbelt, but my body felt numb and my head was throbbing. I could’t see properly and it was extreme silence like a piercing sound in my ear. My eyes landed on my mom who was in the front seat. She was still like there wasn’t any life left in her. The airbag covered her face, but I knew she was gone
