Chicken-Flavored Noodles

Chicken-Flavored Noodles

It’s only because he looks like a girl, Mingyu thought. I’m straight. It’s just his girliness that’s making me feel like this.

And Mingyu was straight. Dead straight. He only fell for women, only ever dated women, only ever felt attracted to women. Until Junghan came along and ruined that “only.”

The possibility of not being straight made Mingyu just a little uncomfortable.

What am I saying? I am straight! Mingyu convinced himself.

“Mingyu!” Seokmin called out from the kitchen just when Mingyu was contemplating his straightness, “come eat your noodles before someone else does!”

Mingyu sighed and decided to think about it later. Seokmin wasn’t kidding when he said that someone else would eat his noodles, and he would not let that happen. He made his way to the table where the rest of the members were eating and grabbed his bowl. He looked at its contents and frowned. He didn’t like barbeque-flavored noodles. He looked at everyone else’s bowls, and spotted the noodles he wanted. His favorite flavor was chicken, and Junghan was the only one that had it.

“Hyung, I don’t like this flavor,” Mingyu whined to Junghan, “let’s trade.”

“No,” Junghan said affirmatively.

Mingyu pouted, “let me at least taste them.”

“No!” Junghan said, moving his bowl farther from Mingyu.

Mingyu knew that any attempt at getting Junghan to give up the noodles would be in vain, and so he pouted and started consuming the barbeque-flavored noodles quietly.

His trail of thought persisted. Am I not straight anymore?

He looked at Junghan from the side of his eyes as he contemplated. Junghan was concentrated on eating his food, and he was so cute to Mingyu. So cute that Mingyu had to stop eating and watch as Junghan’s lovely lips up the chicken-flavored noodles.

A few second later, Junghan noticed Mingyu’s eyes on him and felt slightly uncomfortable.

“What?” Junghan asked as he swallowed.

“You’re so cute when you eat, hyung,” Mingyu said teasingly.

Junghan scowled and carried on eating. Mingyu always said things like that to Junghan, and Junghan always dismissed them as Mingyu being… well, Mingyu.

“Stop staring at me!” Junghan whined, feeling uncomfortable being watched as he ate.

Mingyu chuckled and stopped staring, continuing to eat his own food. He couldn’t help but slightly look at his hyung’s lips every once in a while though. He realized how much he wanted to kiss those lips. He realized how much he wanted to be with that boy forever and ever and ever.

Ok, so I’m not straight anymore, Mingyu concluded. He finished off the last of his noodles, put them in the sink, and went back to his room to sulk.

He didn’t know why he felt like sulking. Somehow, being attracted to Junghan was a something that was sulk-worthy. He could never confess, he could never cave in to his desires and he basically has to suffer with these feelings until they went away.

“I hate life,” Mingyu said as he collapsed onto his bed.

“Why is that?” Seungcheol asked, coming into the room as soon as Mingyu said it.

Mingyu frowned. Seungcheol always came in at the wrong time. This wasn’t the first time that Mingyu talked to himself and Seungcheol heard, and Mingyu knew that he was now in for an interrogation from the leader.

“Because I share a room with you,” Mingyu answered jokingly. “Now leave me to my thoughts.”

“These thoughts are obviously bothering you. Do you want to talk about them?”

“Nope.”

“I know them though,” Seungcheol said with a smirk.

“Oh yeah? What are they?” Mingyu challenged.

“Something along the lines of ‘Seungcheol is a douchebag; I wish I shared a room with Junghan instead,’” Seungcheol responded.

Mingyu eyed Seungcheol curiously. Did he know or was it just a coincidence that Junghan was included in his guess?

“I’m right aren’t I?” Seungcheol chuckled.

“Not exactly.”

“I’m right about the Junghan part though, aren’t I?”

“No.”

“I saw you watch him eat his noodles,” Seungcheol laughed, “obviously you were in love.”

“With his noodles!“ Mingyu defended himself, "he had the chicken-flavored ones!”

“Mingyu, I’m going to ask you once, and I want you to be honest with me… do you or do you not have feelings for Junghan?”

Mingyu laughed awkwardly. Somehow, he saw that the question coming, and he had already planned to deny it, “of course not, where would you get a silly assumption like that?”

“I hoped that you would because he’s liked you for ages and you never noticed once,” Seungcheol said in a bit of a mumble.

“Huh?” Mingyu responded quickly.

“Junghan!” Seungcheol called out, “Mingyu is playing with your hair products!”

“Mingyu!” Junghan yelled from across the dorm. Within seconds, he was in the room, charging at Mingyu, “where are my hair products?!” he screamed, a cute frown on his face that Mingyu couldn’t help but love.

“You’re cute when you’re angry, hyung,” Mingyu teased, and Junghan smacked Mingyu’s arm.

“Ouch!”

“My hair products?”

“I don’t have your hair products,” Mingyu attested, holding his hands up to show that he was clear.

“Why did Seungcheol tell me…” they both looked where Seungcheol had been standing. Junghan went towards the door, and realized it was locked. Junghan frowned and sighed, as if he knew what was going on… “Seungcheol open the door right now!”

“Just talk to him!” Seungcheol said.

“Stop talking!” Junghan yelled instantly.

“Junghan…”

“Shut up!” Junghan yelled again, livid.

“Hyung,” Mingyu called out softly, “are you okay?” It was unlike Junghan to be so angry, and so Mingy was quite surprised to see him act like that.

“I want to kill Seungcheol.”

Mingyu had started to understand what was going on, but he was still too shocked to process it.

“Hyung,” Mingyu called out, and Junghan turned. Mingyu saw that Junghan was really angry.

“Mingyu, I like you,” Junghan admitted, saying it loud enough for Seungcheol to hear from outside. “There, I said it, now would you open the goddamn door!” Junghan yelled.

Mingyu stiffened. He had kind of known it since Seungcheol told him a few minutes ago, but hearing it come from Junghan’s mouth verified it and made his world spin.

“I’m never going to tell you anything ever again!” Junghan screamed in Seungcheol’s direction.

“Hyung,” Mingyu said, getting off the bed and walking closer to Junghan.

“I don’t want you to say anything,” Junghan said, “I know what you’re going to say. I know you’re straight , and I know I don’t have a chance with you. I just want you to forget about it and…”

Mingyu took Junghan’s hand, and Junghan stopped talking abruptly. He looked at the ground meekly.

“Are you guys kissing in there yet?” came the voice of Seungcheol, followed by snickering, ruining the mood completely.

“ off, Seungcheol!” Mingyu yelled.

“Didn’t you want me to open the door just a minute ago?” Seungcheol teased.

“Oh for crying out loud!” Mingyu yelled…

“Relax, I’m leaving!” Seungcheol laughed. As his laugh got further and further away, Mingyu and Junghan faced each other awkwardly.

“Come here,” Mingyu said, taking Junghan’s hand and pulling him in for a hug.

A few seconds into the hug, Junghan asked: “is this a sympathy hug so that it’s a softer blow when you reject me?”

“No, it’s an ‘I-like-you-too’ hug,” Mingyu responded.

Junghan relaxed in Mingyu’s arms, resting his head on the taller boy’s shoulders.

“Does this mean we’re… a couple?” Junghan asked.

“I guess so.”

“Do you wanna stop hugging now?” Junghan asked with a restrained laugh.

“Not really,” Mingyu replied.

They stopped hugging anyway, and when they pulled away and looked at each other, they both started laughing to cover their awkwardness.

“Oh God. I can’t stand this anymore,” Junghan said. “Let’s get used to be being a couple please?”

“It’s not just something one gets used to in an instant…”

Junghan grabbed Mingyu’s collar and pulled him closer so that their foreheads were touching, “let’s speed things up then,” Junghan whispered seductively. He took Mingyu’s chin in his hands and kissed him for the first time.

And thus Mingyu got to taste the chicken-flavored noodles after all.
