Blue Christmas

Blue Christmas

Blue Christmas

“Good night Kyuhyun,” the staff greeted.  “And have a Merry Christmas!”

Kyuhyun flashed them his signature smile before heading out of the building and to the dorms.  However, before he reached his car, flashing lights outside a bakery caught his eyes and he decided to satisfy his sweet tooth.  He walked over, trying to bundle up against the harsh winds that smacked his face.  He didn’t like the cold.  Not one bit.  But lately, everything around him seemed to grow colder and harsher.  And it wasn’t the weather that he was thinking about.

The bell rang, signaling a new customer in the store.  A short brunette wearing a Christmas hat gestured him in with a smile.  “What can we do for you today sir,” he asked.  “Cake for a party?  Cake for your girlfriend?  Cake for your friends?”

Kyuhyun smiled bitterly as he looked at the pastries in front of him.  “Just a cake for one,” he whispered, not feeling ashamed to admit that he would be alone this Christmas.

The man’s eyes widened, but only for a bit.  “Oh, that’s okay,” he muttered, trying to clear the awkward air around them.  “Then why don’t I suggest this dark chocolate mousse cake?  It’s quite popular during this time of the year and it goes great with a cup of hot chocolate.”

Taking one last sweep at the colorful pastries, he decided that the dark colored cake suited his mood and his situation the best.  “Let’s do it,” he said.

“One chocolate mousse coming up,” the brunette responded, taking out a slice and placing it in a nice, red box.  He then placed a simple pink bow on top, which brought a certain person into Kyuhyun’s mind.

He shook it off as he began to reach for his credit card.  “No,” the man said, handing him the box.  “It’s on the house tonight.”

Kyuhyun’s eyebrows scrunched in curiosity.  “Are you sure?  I’d be more than happy to pay,” he said, reaching for the box.

“Honestly, don’t mind it sir,” he said.  “Just have a good Christmas, okay?”

A genuine smile escaped from Kyuhyun’s lips as he gave the other a deep bow.  “Thank you,” he said, meeting his eyes.  “Have a Merry Christmas.”

“You too,” the man said, waving him out of the store.

Kyuhyun went his way and jogged to his car, shivering at the cold winds, but something seemed to warm his heart up just a tiny bit.  He started his car and drove his way home, happy to finally take a break.  Once he arrived at his front door, he took a deep breath, preparing himself for what’s coming.

Or, to be more precise, for what’s not there.

Eunhyuk, Donghae, and Ryeowook leaving the dorms hit him hard.  He felt lonely. Abandoned.  Heartbroken.  Things that a human being should never have to feel on Christmas.  He sighed before slowly unlocking the door, letting himself in.  He flashed the lights open, half expecting a surprise, but his heart dropped when he realized that he was still alone.  He shook it off, knowing that he shouldn’t have expected anything in the first place.  Anyways, Leeteuk had promised to meet him tomorrow, on the actual Christmas day, for drinks.  He shrugged off his jacket and shoes and threw it on the side, careful not to drop the cake in his hands.

Kyuhyun then made his way to the kitchen, hoping that a glass of wine with his cake would sweep some of his sorrows away.  Plus, there was that new historical drama that just came out.  He could probably watch some of that.  He took the cake out of the box, grabbed a fork, and poured himself a glass of wine.  He hesitated for a moment, debating on whether to chug the first glass so that he could get two glasses of wine in before he sat down, but went against it.  He grabbed the plate and glass and kicked the kitchen door open.

Suddenly, he took notice of the light in the living room.  It was open.  What the heck?  Did someone come to rob me?  God, this is just getting worse and worse.  He peeked over the corner and spotted a shorter man, leaning over the table, messing with something.  Should I say something?  Oh, what the heck?

“Yah, why are you trying to rob someone on Christmas Eve,” Kyuhyun suddenly yelled out.  I’m going to die.  This is it.  I’m going to die on Christmas Eve with wine and cake.  God, I’m stupid.

The shorter man turned around, a huge smile planted on his face.  “Kyuhyun,” the man whispered.

Kyuhyun nearly dropped the things in his hand and he was happy that he didn’t.  Even though Ryeowook didn’t live here anymore, he would have still killed him if he found spots on the carpet.  “Y-You came home,” Kyuhyun stuttered, wanting to run over, but he was frozen on the spot.

“I did.  I promised you that I would,” he said, walking towards the frozen maknae.  He reached over and grabbed the plate and glass out of his hands before placing them on the coffee table.  “I’m home.”  He then turned around, holding out his arms.

Tears started forming in the younger’s eyes as he jumped into the older’s open arms.   “Sungmin,” he whispered, squeezing the other tight.

Sungmin returned the gesture.  “Why would I ever leave my boyfriend alone on Christmas,” he asked, rubbing his hands gently over Kyuhyun’s back.

“God, I’m so happy,” Kyuhyun blubbered, his tears finally flowing down his cheeks.

The older gently pulled him away to face him.  He reached out to gently cup the younger’s cheek and wipe his tears away.  “I’m happy too.  I’m so, so happy,” he whispered.  He then pulled him down to kiss him on the forehead, something he rarely did as it required him to strain too much.  “Now, what do you say to a historical drama, some of that delicious cake you have, and a cup of cocoa instead of wine?  I want to make tonight special and I’d rather not have you drunk unless you’re drunk on me.”  He winked and Kyuhyun couldn’t help but blush at the cheesy remark.

Usually he would have said something back, but he resisted the urge and was dragged to the couch.  Sungmin had already set two cups of hot cocoa on the table and all that was left to do was turn on the television, cuddle up, and eat some cake.

That was, of course, until the doorbell rang.

Kyuhyun frowned at the sudden distraction as Sungmin had took it upon himself to feed the both of them some cake.  He chomped down on the cake that had been placed in front of his mouth and gave Sungmin a quick peck on his lips before making his way to the front door.  The older watched, curious as to who would be here so late at night.

Before Kyuhyun could start yelling at whoever had rang the door, sounds of caroling seeped in with familiar voices.  He rolled his eyes before opening the dorm, revealing the lot of the members.  “And a Happy New Year,” Eunhyuk sang, giving him a wink.

“No,” Kyuhyun simply answered before slamming the door.

The door, however, was caught by Donghae’s feet as he ran inside and pulled the maknae close.  “I missed you so much Kyuhyun,” Donghae said, spinning him around.

“Yah,” Sungmin said, approaching the crowd.  “Hands off the boyfriend!”

“Jealous,” Eunhyuk asked, joining the pair and hugging them both tight.

Sungmin rolled his eyes before pulling his boyfriend out of the constricting hug.  “Hug your own boyfriend,” he said, giving Kyuhyun a back hug in order to face all the members.

“Don’t mind if I do,” Eunhyuk said, squeezing the life out of a blushing Donghae.

“Now kids,” Leeteuk interrupted, his classic dimple smile on his face. “Why don’t we all walk in like normal people and eat some sweets instead of blocking the hallway?”

Ryeowook nodded, carrying a huge red box filled with goodies.  He pushed through the crowd and headed to the kitchen to prepare the food.  But he was also there to make sure that his precious kitchen had not been destroyed by the hands of the maknae.  Who knows what he could have done in the past couple months?

The group of friends filed into the living room, the historical drama on the television being completely ignored.  Sungmin took the liberty of sitting on Kyuhyun’s lap as everybody else settled in, busy discussing New Year plans.  At the sight in front of him, Kyuhyun couldn’t help but smile and feel his heart get even warmer.

By the end of it, everybody was completely stuffed with Christmas sweets and hot chocolate and no one dared to move from their place.  “What do you guys say to all sleeping here tonight,” Siwon proposed.

“It’s up to Kyuhyun,” Leeteuk said and everybody’s eyes fell on the youngest.

“That would be fine.  Your beds are all still here,” he said, nodding back to the rooms down the hallways.

“But not right now,” Eunhyuk interrupted, snuggling with Donghae.  “We all still have lots to talk about.”

            “Of course,” Kyuhyun whispered.

They continued to tell stories of what they were up to.  Eunhyuk was showing off the muscles he had gained from training and how much he enjoyed being in a leadership position.  Donghae gushed about how much fun he was having working with others in the police section.  Siwon was happy that he finally finished training and would be taking up arms with others.  The rest discussed their still busy schedules and how much fun they were having doing individual activities.  However, no one could deny that it could never be compared to doing group activities with the other members.

Those times were perfect and could never be replaced with anything else.

It would only take a couple more years until they could be together once again.

Suddenly, people started nodding off and no one could be bothered to move to their respective beds.  Sungmin attempted to get off of Kyuhyun’s lap, but he stopped him and held him tighter.  “It’s okay,” Kyuhyun whispered into Sungmin's ears.  Sungmin couldn't help but smile at the light tickle on his ears.  “It’ll be a while until I can hold you like this again.”

Sungmin sighed at the thought and cuddled up against his chest.  “Did you have fun tonight,” he asked when he settled into the younger's chest, getting ready to doze off himself.

Kyuhyun looked at the cute bundle on his chest and kissed the top of his head before whispering,” It was absolutely perfect.”

*I deleted this ending....but read it if you want to ^^

It was about four in the morning when everybody finally fell asleep.

Christmas Day.

The smile that fell on everyone’s lips was breathtaking.  They had all spent Christmas together, as they had promised to do so every year.  No matter how busy they were.  They always found time for this one day throughout the whole year.  To be whole.  To be together as one.

So they’ll always know that, no matter how far they go or how far they reach, they will always have each other at the end.

Because even if their fans leave them one day, they know that they will always be each other’s Ever Lasting Friends.
