Footsteps

The Other Half

~Yumi~

------------------------

I sat down on the chair in the kitchen area and took a deep breat. I wasn't a big fan of weekends since it was always packed and sometimes I wondered how much I could keep up with it. I looked down on my burnt hand and sighed even heavier. I hadn't even had lunch yet and it was already 3pm. I took the sandwhich that Auntie had made and took a bite. Does stress affect my appetite? Yes it does. I wasn't even hungry even though I had worked my off the entire morning

I stood up and took another bite and swallowed quickly and took a sip of the water and went to the front again. There were less people in the café and it was finally slowing the pace down. I the music in the café and started to sing along as I started to clean the coffee machine.

Before I knew it, it was already time to close. I started to clean the tables and I felt weird. As if someone was watching me. I looked around, trying to not be so obvious and then glanced at the friend of Changmin's. They were talking but the 3rd guy who had taken the latte just stared empty ahead. He looked focused but at the same time as he was thinking deeply and wasn't aware of his surroundings. Suddenly he looked up and our eyes met for e brief moment. I removed the strand of hair in front of my face and continued to clean again.

I hurried into the dishwasher and took a deep breath again. I didn't like his eyes. It was as if he could see and know exactly what I was thinking and somehow that made me feel vurnerable. I shook it off quickly and started with the dishes and as I went to the counter in the front I saw them getting ready to leave.

"Thanks for the coffee" I heard Changmin say as he walked towards me

"Of course" I mumbled

"You know if you're looking for any part timers?" He asked

"Uhm..oh is it for you?" I asked

"Yes" He smiled

"I'll ask Auntie. If you just wait..I'l.." I stuttered

"No need I can come back tomorrow so there's no hurry about that"

I nodded and smiled

"You look exhausted" He said apologetically

"Yeah.. it's been a rough day. I barely have eaten so.." I shrugged

"I see.. But.. I'll see you then" He said and left.

The other guys waved but the 3rd guy just gave me a brief nod and left. I swallowed hard. After 1 hour of cleaning I was finally one for the day and it felt like I was about to collapse. I hurried to grab my things and bid farewell to auntie before hurrying outside into the cold. I shuddered before starting to walk my way home. I tried to think about if I had forgotten anything today but it seemed like I hadn't and soon enough my thoughts drifted off to that guy once again. That stone face. Cold as ice. I giggled to myself. If he knew I was calling him that he would have probably been angry

I heard my shoes hitting the ground as I walked fast but soon I heard something else. Somethihng behind me. I kept walking normally but as I turned left and later on right the footssteps behind me was still there. I stopped for a minute, pretending to take out my phone and right in that moment, the footsteps behind me was also quiet. I turned around to see no one there and I felt chills down my spine. I swallowed hard and hurried to walk my way home. I was close and I felt myself breathing faster as the anxiety and fear grew.

"Please .." I whispered loud enough to hear myself.

I hurried and turned left to my street and ran to my building. I quickly threw the door open and ran up for the stairs and quickly fumbled with the keys in order to unlock my door. As soon as I was inside I locked the door with the chain and as well as the main lock and then glided down along the wall and breathed heavily

"What the hell was that about?" I whispered and felt a tear falling down my cheek
