Prologue

 

 

“Oppa!”

 

He smiled warmly from the greeting on the other end of the line. Seated beside him in the car, Kibum made gagging and gasping noises, his hands curled up in a sickening manner.

 

“Where are you right now?” he asked, turning away from Kibum.

 

“Getting ready to go to bed,” she answered. “How about you? Did you finish your schedule yet?”

 

Onew shook his head, forgetting that she couldn’t see him. “No, not yet. There’s one more left.”

 

She made a sound of disappointment on the end. “I see.”

 

“Oh? Mi Young noona!” Taemin yelled. He scrambled to his knees in his car seat and turned around to the back. Taemin leaned forward, close to Onew and the cell phone. “Mi Young noona!”

 

Mi Young giggled sweetly on the phone sending waves of happiness to Onew. “Tell Taeminnie that I said “Hello” would you Jinki?”

 

Onew turned to Taemin and gave the youngest a leveled look. “Hello.”

 

Taemin’s face scrunched up in confusion while Mi Young sighed.

 

“Not like that,” Mi Young scolded gently. “Is Minho there?”

 

“Are you joking?” Onew said in mock jealousy. “You’re talking to your boyfriend and you’re asking for another man now?”

 

“I mentioned Taemin before, why didn’t you say anything then?”

 

“Taemin doesn’t count as one.”

 

“...Oppa!”

 

“I’m joking,” Onew hurriedly explained. Mi Young gave a little laugh.

 

“I know you didn’t mean it, but it was mean. He’s almost an adult now,” Mi Young reasoned.

 

Onew sighed. “They all grow up so fast.” He fake-sniffled.

 

The car slowly came to a stop as the van arrived in front of their destination. One by one, they each filed out of the van. Light screams greeted the boys as they stepped off. Before Onew was able to say anything, Mi Young caught him first.

 

“I know you have to go. Be safe and hwaiting!” she exclaimed boldly. Onew chuckled.

 

“Hwaiting…love you.”
