First Day

Overcoming Everything

Lee Hyukjae walked through the door to his new school. He had been awarded a scholarship to Seoul Privet High School. He adjusted his glasses and walked to the school office. After meeting the principle and being given his timetable, he was shown to his class. His teacher looked up when he knocked on the door. "Excuse me, I'm new here, this is the class I was told to come to." The teacher smiled at him. "Please come in and introduce your self to the class. I'm Mr Kim, your class teacher." Hyukjae bowed and turned to the front and bowing to the class. "Annyeonghaseyo, Lee Hyukjae imnida." Mr Kim looked around and then turned to Hyukjae. "Well Hyukjae-ssi, you can take the empty seat next to Sungmin-ssi. Sungmin-ssi please raise your hand." A boy raised his hand and Hyukjae made his way over and sat down in the empty seat next to him. The boy turned to him and smiled. "Annyeonghaseyo Hyukjae-ssi, I'm Lee Sungmin." Hyukjae smiled back. "It's nice to meet you Sungmin-ssi." Mr Kim then started the lesson and Hyukjae opened his notebook and started taking notes.

When the lesson ended it was lunch time. Everyone walked to go to the school cafeteria. Hyukjae packed up his things and walked outside. He sat down under a tree and pulled his notes out. He pulled a highlighter out of his bag and started hightlighting some of his notes. Sungmin followed Hyukjae outside and watched him in confusion. He went to walk over to Hyukjae to talk to him when some of his friends showed up and dragged him away, saying in loud voices, for Hyukjae to hear, that Sungmin shouldn't hang around a geeky boy like Hyukjae. Sungmin gave an appologetic look to Hyukjae, but Hyukjae had his head down and wasn't looking his way. When he was sure that Sungmin was gone, Hyukjae wiped his tears away. He never had any friends before and everyone always made fun of him because of his thick glasses, but unlike everyone else at the school Hyukjae's family were quite poor and they couldn't afford decent glasses for Hyukjae and they couldn't afford all the new designer clothes that all the rich kids wore, he had gotten a temporary part-time job to pay for his school uniform, stationary for school and so he had a little bit of money for his school lunches, although Hyukjae didn't really eat at school, because of the bullies.

After making sure there was no more tears on his face Hyukjae finished highlighting his notes from his lesson. With no friends to go out with Hyukjae spent his nights revising his notes and doing homework or reading ahead of the class in his textbooks and therefore he was very good at school and he managed to get his scholarship to the prestigious school he was now attending. He pulled out his timetable and had a good look at it. His schedule was not too bad, although he hated the fact he only had music on Thursdays and Friday as music was his passion. He knew that if he does really well here then he might be able to win another scholarship to a music university. He put his things back in his bag and stood up. He started walking to his next class, knowing he might get lost in a new school and he liked to be early to his classes and that was one of the reasons that people called him a geek and bullied him. He sighed knowing that this school was going to be no different to his other schools, especially because this was a school for rich people and he was poor and on a scholarship. He walked the corridors looking for the room that his next class was in. After walking for about 10 minutes he realised that he was lost and started looking in all the classrooms to see if he could find someone that might be nice enough to help him find his class. Finally he found someone in one of the rooms. He knocked on the door and the young man inside looked up and motioned for him to come inside.

Hyukjae walked inside and bowed to the man. "Mianhae, I got lost trying to find my class. I was wondering if you could help me." The man smiled. "New student?" Hyukjae nodded. "Let me see your timetable." Hyukjae walked over and handed the man his timetable. "The man looked it over and then handed it back to Hyukjae. "Follow me, I'll take you there. What's your name?" Hyukjae put his timetable back in his bag. "Kamsahamnida. Oh my name is Lee Hyukjae." The man smiled. "Well Hyukjae-ssi, I'm the school's nurse Park Jungsu. Are you settling in well?" Junsu noticed Hyukjae fidling with his hands before he replied. "I think so, I've only had one lesson so far." Jungsu nodded. "Well lets get you to class then Hyukjae-ssi. Did you have a good lunch?" Junsu was asking Hyukjae questions as they walked to the classroom. "It was okay." They walked until Jungsu stopped. "Well Hyukjae-ssi this is your classroom for this lesson. Maybe you should ask one of your classmates if they can show you to your classes for a few days until you get to know the school." Hyukjae bowed. "Kamsahamnida Park-hyung." Jungsu gave a small bow back. "You're welcome Hyukjae-ssi and please call me Jungsu-hyung, Park-hyung makes me feel so old." Hyukjae smiled. "Okay Jungsu-hyung." Jungsu smiled back and walked off down the corridor. "Come find me if you need anything Hyukjae-ssi." Hyukjae looked into the classroom to find no-one there. He sighed and sat on the floor beside the door. After a little while Hyukjae heard a bell ringing and noticed other students heading to their classes. He stood up and waited for his class and teacher to arrive. As the rest of his class arrived he noticed that they were the same as his other class. He saw Sungmin walking towards him. He smiled at Hyukjae, who gave a small smile back. Just as Sungmin was about to go and talk to him, his friends pulled him away again. This time Sungmin got angry. "What is wrong with you Daejung? I'm only trying to talk to him, he's new and doesn't know anyone. What's wrong with me being nice to him?" Daejung looked at Sungmin. "You would rather talk with a poor geek than hang out with us?" Sungmin crossed his arms. "With the way you guys are acting, yeah I would rather talk with him. So much for you guys being my friends, I bet you pretended because of who my father is. Well I'm done with having fake friends who use me because they think they can gain their families favour with my father." Sungmin turned around and walked to Hyukjae. "So Hyukjae-ssi, how's your first day going?" Hyukjae gave a small smile. "Not too bad thank you Sungmin-ssi."

Just then the teacher showed up and opened the door and let the class in. Sungmin walked and sat at the other end of the classroom from Daejung and the others that were with him. Hyukjae walked up to the teacher. "Excuse me, I'm the new student, Lee Hyukjae." The teacher smiled at him. "Ah Hyukjae-ssi, it's nice to finally see you. I'm Mr Jung, please go and find a seat." Hyukjae bowed to Mr Jung and went to find a seat. He noticed Sungmin wave him over. "Hyukjae-ssi, there's a seat here." Sungmin smiled as Hyukjae walked over to him and sat down. Pulling out his notebook and pens he waited for Mr Jung to start the lesson. Sungmin sat and watched him. "Hyukjae-ssi, do you always have a notebook with you?" Hyukjae turned to Sungmin and nodded. "Yes, so I can write down what the teachers are teaching us, and then I got over my notes at home." Sungmin stared at him. "Don't you go out with friends at night?" Hyukjae shook his head and looked to the front, hoping that Mr Jung would start the lesson now as he was getting uncomfortable with Sungmin's questions. Sungmin noticed the way Hyukjae looked away and knew he had made him uncomfotable. He leaned over. "Mianhae Hyukjae-ssi, I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable, it's just I've never met someone who would rather study all night rather than go and hang out with their friends." Hyukjae turned to Sungmin. "It's okay Sungmin-ssi, you didn't know it makes me uncomfortable." Sungmin smiled. Mr Jung then started the lesson and Hyukjae's full attention was on Mr Jung.

After that lesson ended Sungmin waited for Hyukjae to pack up his things. "All done? We have after school activities and you need to pick an activity to do. I'll show you where to go." Hyukjae nodded. "Okay, thank you Sungmin-ssi." Sungmin smiled. "Oh Hyukjae-ssi how old are you?" Hyukjae picked up his bag and started walking with Sungmin. "I'm 17, why?" Sungmin smiled again. "I was wondering if you were older or if I was older. I'm 18 so I'm older." Hyukjae smiled. "So you're my hyung." They walked along the corridors until they reached a board on the wall. Sungmin turned to Hyukjae. "This is the activities that are available. Have a look and see if you like any of them." Hyukjae looked at the board and read down the list. Then he found one that interested him, a music club. Sungmin noticed. "Found one?" Hyukjae nodded. "The music club." Sungmin nodded and walked over to a small table and started writing on a card. He then handed it to Hyukjae. "Here, give this to the teacher and you'll be able to join. Come on, I'll take you there." Hyukjae followed Sungmin again. Sungmin lead him to the music section of the school. Stopping at a classroom, he knocked on the door and entered when a voice called to do so. He walked up to the teacher. "Excuse me Youngwoon-hyung." Youngwoon looked up at Sungmin. "Ah Sungmin-ssi, what brings you to our music club? You have martial arts as your after school activity don't you?" Sungmin smiled and nodded. "Yes, but the new student would like to join the music club and I was showing him the way here. Hyukjae-ssi come in." Youngwoon looked as Hyukjae walked into the room. He smiled at Hyukjae. "So you want to join?" Hyukjae nodded. "Yes." Youngwoon held out his hand. "Got your card filled in." Hyukjae nodded and placed the card Sungmin gave him into Youngwoon's hand. Youngwoon read the card and smiled. "Well everything seems in order. You're Lee Hyukjae-ssi?" Hyukjae nodded again. "Yes, that's me." Youngwoon smiled again. "Well Hyukjae-ssi welcome to the music club." Youngwoon turned to Sungmin. "You better go Sungmin-ssi, activities will be starting soon." Sungmin nodded and turned to Hyukjae. "Well I should be going, but you'll be fine, Youngwoon-hyung will look after you. You can go home when activities finish so I'll see you tomorrow Hyukjae-ssi. Have fun." Sungmin smiled at Hyukjae, who smiled back. "Kamsahamnida Sungmin-hyung. I'll see you tomorrow." Sungmin walked out the class and went to the gym.

Youngwoon turned back to Hyukjae, who was standing there looking around the room. "Well Hyukjae-ssi, I'll introduce everyone to you in a minute. There are a few things I have to tell you first. My name is Kim Youngwoon and I am a music teacher here, I allow students to call me Youngwoon-hyung as, I'm sure you will know now, there are other teachers with the last name Kim. Also we have a Chinese group, they usually keep to themselves and only really talk to each other in Chinese so the others usually leave them alone. I'll give you a form to fill in so we know what you're good at and what if anything you want or need help with. I think that's all Hyukjae-ssi." Hyukjae nodded. Youngwoon went and got a form and handed it to him. "Fill this in and then we can introduce you to the others." Hyukjae went to a small table and started to fill out the form as Youngwoon requested. When he finished, he pulled out his notebook and quickly wrote down what Youngwoon had told him. He then put his notebook back in his bag and handed the form back to Youngwoon. "Alright guys gather round, we got a new club member, so you need to introduce yourself to him. Hyukjae-ssi why don't you introduce yourself first." Hyukjae nodded and stepped forward after the others had gathered round. "Annyeonghaseyo, Lee Hyukjae imnida." He then bowed to them. One by one the others introduced themselves. He noted them in his head to write down later. Kim Heechul, Kim Jongwoon, and the 7 members of the Chinese group Hangeng, Zhou Mi, Henry Lau, Kim Ryeowook, Lee Donghae, Choi Siwon and Cho Kyuhyun. Hyukjae bowed to them again. He then went and sat down while Youngwoon looked over his form. He pulled some paper and a pencil from his bag and continued with the song he was composing himself. He hadn't thought of lyrics yet as he was still writing the music. Youngwoon finished reading the form looking impressed and looked around to find Hyukjae. He walked over when he found him and watched him writing music. Deciding that he could talk to Hyukjae later, Youngwoon walked off and left Hyukjae writing his music. He checked on the others. When another bell rang Hyukjae looked up and noticed the others were packing up. Youngwoon walked over to him. "Time to go home Hyukjae-ssi, you were busy writing your music that it's already getting late." Hyukjae bowed. "Mianhae." Youngwoon gave a small laugh. "No need to be sorry, you were writing music in a music club." Hyukjae gave a smile. Youngwoon patted his back. "Go home and relax Hyukjae-ssi and we'll see you here tomorrow after school. Have a nice night." Hyukjae nodded. "Kamsahamnida Youngwoon-hyung, you have a nice night as well." Hyukjae packed his things into his bag and walked out the classroom.

He wandered along trying to find the way out. He sighed and tried to remember the way he came with Sungmin but found he couldn't remember. After walking for another while he came across a room that he thought he remembered. Looking inside he found Jungsu sitting inside. Jungsu looked up. "Oh hello Hyukjae-ssi. Not going home?" Hyukjae blushed a little and fixed his glasses. "I seem to have gotten lost again Jungsu-hyung." Jungsu gave a warm smile. "Well lets get you home then. Do you live far?" Hyukjae looked at him. "Sort of far, but I'll be okay hyung, I walk all the time." Jungsu shook his head. "Well it's late and I insist that I drive you home Hyukjae-ssi, I'm leaving now anyway." Hyukjae stood there trying to find a way to be able to walk home. Jungsu packed up his things and stood at the door. "Come on Hyukjae-ssi." Hyukjae sighed. He hadn't thought of anything yet. He followed Jungsu, still trying to think of something. He was brought out of his thoughts when he bumped into Jungsu, who had stopped by his car. Jungsu unlocked his car and opened the passenger door for Hyukjae, who reluctently climbed in. Jungsu closed the door and walked round and climbed in the driver side. He put his seatbelt on and checked to make sure that Hyukjae had his one on. Jungsu started his car and asked Hyukjae for directions to his house. Hyukjae gave directions and Jungsu followed them. He soon pulled up outside a small, slightly run down house. A woman was watching from the window and quickly come outside to see why there was an unfamiliar car parked outside her house. Inside the car Junsu turned to Hyukjae. "You'll be alright now?" Hyukjae nodded and bowed slightly. "I'll be fine Jungsu-hyung, thank you very much for the ride home." Jungsu smiled. "You're welcome Hyukjae-ssi. Is that your mother?" Hyukjae looked out the window at the woman. "Yes." Junsu smiled. "She's very pretty. Well you should be going so she doesn't worry." Hyukjae nodded. "Thank you again hyung." Hyukjae unbuckled his seatbelt and climbed out the car. Jungsu watched from the car as Hyukjae met his mother. Hyukjae's mother hugged him. "I was starting to get worried Hyukjae." Hyukjae hugged her back. "Mianhae umma." She let him go and smiled at him. "Who is in the car?" Hyukjae smiled. "Park Jungsu-hyung. He's the school nurse. He helped me when I got lost today and he insisted that he drive me home." She hugged him again before bowing at Jungsu's car and leading Hyukjae into the house. Knowing that Hyukjae was safe at home Jungsu drove to his own home.

Inside Hyukjae's mother warmed the dinner she made for him earlier. Hyukjae sat and ate before taking his plate into the kitchen and washing it. He walked to his room and pulled his notebook and pen out his bag and wrote down the names of the others in the music club. He then sat and read over all the notes he had written at school. When it got late he closed his notebook and put it and then pen back in his bag ready for school the next day. He went and took a shower before getting ready for his bed. He set his alarm and went to sleep. His mother walked into his room before she went to bed and seeing Hyukjae sleeping she leant down and kissed his forehead before she quietly left the room and went to her own.

Hi, welcome to another new story. Hope you're enjoying it so far. Should I continue?

I'm not sure that all chapters will be as long as this one and I haven't gotten very far in writing it yet as I have a lot of college work to do and I'm writing another story.
