Things became worse after appa passed away.
The building he worked at burst into flames one day and he never made it out alive.
Without him, we had no breadwinner in the family and had to move to a smaller house.
Byunghun was only 10 then but umma decided to stop his education and made him earn money to support the family. She blamed him for appa's death. And Byunghun, Byunghun never fought back.
In the day, Byunghun worked at a nearby cafe as a cleaner and when he returned home he would do the laundry, clean the house and make us our meals.
I helped him whenever I could behind umma's back.
I would follow him to work each day, ensuring that he was safely in the cafe before heading to school, kicking away any stray objects lying in his path to prevent him from tripping and injuring himself.
When I get back from school, he would be doing our laundry as a pot of soup would slowly boil over a blue flame in the kitchen. I took a whiff of the aroma and grinned. Today, Byunghun's making my favourite fish cake soup.
I walked over and sat on the ground right beside him.
"Channie hyung?" He smiled as he sorted out the laundry, putting the light coloured ones in a blue bucket and the dark coloured ones in a red bucket.
"Mmm?" I hummed in reply as I started to help sort out the laundry for Byunghun.
