SHENANIGANSTwo weeks have passed since our little hangover and forehead kisses tragedy. Hana, the Monday after the kiss, had pretended like nothing ever happened. I was too embarrassed to mention about it so I just went with her.
Things were awkward at first on my part but it's hard to stay awkward with Hana, so it went back to normal. The whole school was counting down to the last day of school before summer break.
Today was the day.
I woke up feeling nothing much. No excitement or dread. I got ready for school and when I was done, I went downstairs for breakfast.
'Morning, parents.' I greeted after choosing the seat besides my dad. I took two pieces of pancakes and drizzled some mapple syrup on top of it. My mom hand me a cup of jasmine green tea and I took a sip.
'Taehyung, today is your last day of school, right ? Before summer break.' I nodded to my dad's question. This is it. What I have been afraid to hear. 'We're going the day after tomorrow.'
'I'm sorry for informing you so late but I need to present a paperwork there. So we need to leave early' My dad explained. I was dumbfounded. The day after tomorrow was too soon.
'Can I not go ?' I asked hesitantly.
'Taehyung, don't.' My dad said sternly.
'Fine.' I replied, solemnly. What else could I have said ? It's not like I could go against them. They'll drag me along anyway.
I did not plan to leave Hana alone that long, though. Anything could've happened while I'm gone and I won't be able to be there for her.
I went to school with a heavy feeling. I don't know how to break the news to Hana. I don't know how to tell her I'm going to leave her alone when I promised I'll stay by her side.
'Hey, Taehyung. Why the long face ?' Hana's voice broke my trance of thoughts. I didn't even noticed I was already in the class.
'Hey.' I replied. 'Nothing much.'
'Are you sure ?' She was smiling at me and leaning down, tilting her head to see my face as I was looking down on the table. I nod. She didn't seem to believe this.
'Are you sure ?' She squinted her eyes at me. Looking at her right then, I made up my mind. I'll tell her later. When we walked home later. Not now. Now, I'll enjoy this while I still could.
'Very.' I gave her a wide, fake smile. She was still doubting me but the teacher came in.
'If you say so.' She shrugged but her gaze still lingered on me.
'I said so.' I winked at her and she rolled her eyes.
'Good morning, class.' Mrs. Kwon greeted the whole class. 'I know all of you are excited for the summer break. I have to remind you not to get carried away. To those of you who has registered for the summer class, please come to see me later to get the time table. And for the rest, don't forget about your project that you need to hand in first thing after your break. Understand ?'
'Yes, Mrs. Kwon.' The whole class replied. The excitement was undeniable in their voices. Mrs. Kwon just shook her head.
'That's all. Anyone who has to see me, please do so. Enjoy your holiday. Happy summer, kids.' She smiled and left our class.
'Happy summer !' They yelled back.
The other lessons went quite the same, teachers giving last minute briefing about any work they have assigned us to. Wishes for a happy holidays were exchanged. Recess came and I decided to drink something other than coffee, just because.
'Let's go to the cafeteria.' I said to Hana. She stood up from her chair and followed me.
'You want coffee ?' She asked.
'No. I want juice. Or smoothies. Something sweet.' As if it might make everything less bitter. Hana threw me a weird look.
'Are you really okay, Tae ?' She looked concerned. 'I never thought there will be a day that you'd prefer a smoothie over your coffee.'
'I think it's the summer vibe. I want something fresh. Something, well how do you say, summery.' I laughed at her face. She had one eyebrow raised and she looked at me like I just blabbered nonsense. Maybe I did.
'Summery ?'
'Summery.'
We went to the juice vendor in the cafeteria. The queue was long so we chat whilst waiting for our turn to order. We decided to eat the crepes, summery and all. They made the best chocolate and banana crepes. Since we don't want to waste time, Hana went to buy the crepes.
I got myself a caramel apple smoothies and a raspberry milkshake for Hana. I waited for Hana at one of the table in the cafeteria.
A girl suddenly sat in front of me. She looks nice, not beautiful but well, pretty cute. And shy too. Her cheeks were red and she won't look me in the eyes.
'Hello, Taehyung. I'm Soora.' She said slowly, her voice was shaking and she still had her head down.
'Hello, Soora.' I replied, unsure. I noticed Hana was giving her orders to the guy on the counter, from the corner of my eyes.
'I like you.' She said quickly. 'I have like for a while but the thought that I might not see you everyday anymore, I finally gathered the courage.'
She finally looked up. I was very surprised and I didn't know what to say. It's not like I have never had girls confessing to me before but this was so sudden and very random. We were in the middle of the cafeteria, for goodness sake. I rubbed the back of my neck.
'Oh ? You do ? Well-,'
'Would you go out with me ?' She interrupted me. My eyebrows shot up. I saw the counter guy handing Hana our crepes.
'I'm sorry but I have to say no. I know it must've took you a lot to say this to me. I'm very sorry.' I felt guilty for rejecting her but when I look at Hana making her way to me, I don't know how, but I felt like I made a right decision.
'Is it Hana ?' Soora asked, her face looked hurt.
'What ? What do you mean ?' I was confused by her sudden assumption.
'Do you like her ? Are you guys together ? Is that why you rejected me ?' I was speechless. I wanted to say that it's not, that she was wrong but I can't. I looked at Hana that stopped about two tables away from me when she noticed the girl. She was wriggling her eyebrows, teasing me.
'Maybe.'
'Excuse me ?' Soora looked confused and I can't lie, I was too.
'I'm sorry, Soora. You look like a nice girl but I have no feelings for you. Have a nice summer.' I bowed and stood up. I made my way to Hana as a g
