And you
And you
Remembering then, remembering when: we shared a story, we shared a piece of memory.
Two people, two friends, late night, cake fights.
How did it start, a box of egg tarts.
A taunt, a joke, a laugh, choke.
Then laughter, merriment, motions and movements – faster and faster.
A beautiful mess of things is exactly what our friendship brings.
I remembered the lights and sounds
Your laughter rang loud in the midst of the ghost town.
That was years ago, and I have long lost the joke
But we were lost that night, drowning in booze, rum and coke.
I only know I laughed and laughed, I couldn’t stop.
Something about you, something about us, something about that night in the starry sky, lost in the darkness, lost in that moment.
I know now what I didn’t then
It wasn’t the joke, it wasn’t the beer,
It was that hope, it was living without fear
I know now what I didn’t then
The memories here in my head and the jokes that I said
…the memory couldn’t have beaten the company
