The glass coffin containing the Sleeping Prince had sat untouched for 12,000 years.  The Prince's sleeping form remained exactly as it had been when he fell asleep. It's his curse, a curse that can only be broken one way. Whoever is fated to be his lover must pick their finger so that a drop of blood falls on his face.  Then, he will awake.
