Kyuhyun doesn’t join the swim team of his own volition; more, like, he is gang pressed into trying out by his gym teacher, perhaps as punishment for the days he skips class in order to sleep on the rooftop.   This is not a story with a happy ending, nor does it have much of a happy beginning. There is no closure, no reconciliation, perhaps not even an ounce of genuine humanity that can be salvaged from this. All this has is a beginning, an ending, and all the spaces in between point A to B, as if structured to fit some higher power's design, or a greater purpose; perhaps we can find more potential or hope than what really exists. “Rough night?” Sungmin asks, looking worried and rising from his seat, and Ryeowook sinks into the nearest chair, forehead pressed flat on the table.  

Heechul IMs him with a link to a forum, and, really, the emoticon should have told him that something was up, and were the excessive hearts and sparkles really that necessary? 

Kyuhyun, Sungmin thinks, is exactly the kind of guy who likes to bully the person he likes.  

He comes home from work at six in the evening, toeing off his shoes in the doorway and calling out Ryeowook's name. Sometimes Ryeowook's there to greet him, running out of the kitchen, out of breath and apron strings tied haphazardly around his waist, almost like an eager puppy.

Sungmin picks him up in a run-down apartment one summer evening. No, that's a lie -- he kills his mother first, then notices the boy huddled against the wall and staring at him with wide eyes. He smells the fear before the boy even realizes it himself. It's delicious, in its own right. Sungmin can feel his tongue curl in on itself unconsciously. "It's alright," Sungmin says, baring his teeth, "I won't hurt you, not at all."
