the dingding that everyone knows would hide behind his own shadow if he could. he's practically mute and always does what the trainers tell him with no questions asked. just quietly tries to get through his day not doing much to draw too much attention to himself when he's not dancing. acts really surprised when he gets a compliment even though he's one of the best dancers in the company and always seems to disappear and come back a totally better dancer.

dingding takes his commitments really seriously, he always wants to improve and see how he can improve. he practices a lot on his own so he doesn't mess up and when he does mess up the boy looks terrified like he just committed a murder. he can barely speak korean but he's memorized how to say i'm sorry, i'll work harder, hello and thank you. i'm sorry i'll work harder has basically become his catch phrase. but his dyslexia causes him to say i'm a prisoner instead of i'm sorry. even to the rest of vesper, he says it with a 90 degree bow when he messes up and pinches himself. he wasn't always like that, before he embraced mistakes and used it to make himself better, even laugh about it or make a cool move out of his mistep instead. but now it's like a life or death thing in his mind.

people that are observant would notice that dingding is also really curious, he tries not to be but its a part of him and he can't help but lingering around in the back listening to others conversations or peeking into place he shouldn't. there are so many times he wants to go up to someone and ask them how they did a certain move but he just can't in fear of getting scolded or rejected. he's also a huge pushover, if he's half way eating his lunch and someone tells him to give them their lunch he'd give it no questions asked. he just avoids arguing at all costs and goes along with anything.

since while training he had to watch a lot of other trainees get hurt and they weren't supposed to help each other, dingding isn't the first to run over if something happens. he was taught that the show must go on so if a member passes out on stage he'd keep dancing instead of helping. a lot of people thinks he's cold for that but the real dingding would help. he's just become an expert at holding in his feelings at his point.

the only time dingding seems to have a personality is when he's dancing, you can really tell how much the kid loves it because he transforms into this charismatic dude and then as soon as the music stops he looks like a deer in headlights. 

dingding was born in the countryside of fujian china, from a young age he lived with his grandma while his parents worked hard. he rarely saw them, mostly during the summer but they always sent money to his grandma for support for him. the only person he had was his grandma, he had his parents but they weren't close. he basically saw his grandma as his mom. in elementary school he was slower at learning and did really bad in school, they didn't know why so his grandma just assumed that he was messing around instead of paying attention. the teachers saw that dingding was slower at learning words, writing, and spelling than his classmates. because of this he got bullied from elementary school, whenever he tried to participate his class laughed at him so after a while he stopped talking as much. his grandma didn't have money for a tutor so it never got better, his grandma couldn't read or write herself. from such a yougn age he didn't have any friends and remained iscolated from his peers because of something he couldn't help.

when he was 8 he saw a guy dancing in a warehouse in his neighborhood. he was bboying and dingding never saw anything like it before so he was fascinated. he wasn't supposed to be looking so when he accidentally kicked a can the man noticed and chased dingding down. when he caught him and picked him up by his backpack he let him go free after realizing he was just a kid. told him to mind his own business and snooping could get him hurt. but dingding had a natural curiosity so when the man turned back to walk to the warehouse dingding followed him asking all kinds of questions that the man never answered. when they got back to the warehouse, he just told dingding to leave and never come back before slamming the garage door in his face.

the next day dingding was back again and everyday of that week at the same time. he didn't see the man dancing anymore but that didn't stop him from showing up again next week. the man saw him come in everyday but he was working instead, he finally went up to dingding and screamed at him for his consistency. dingding flinched but didn't back down and took out a helmet from his backpack that he'd been carrying around and attempted to do the headstand that he saw the man do two weeks ago. little did the man know was that dingding had been practicing his headstand every since he saw the man do it. even though he fell on his he got right back up with a smile and asked if the man can teach him. the man seriously was at a loss of words and looked at him like he was crazy before chuckling and closed the garage door mumbling crazy kid to himself.

so once again, dingding showed up everyday for two more weeks looking for the man and asking to teach him until he finally said yes. everyday after school dingding learned bboying from the man, his name was wang shu and he was an ex bboy. he wanted to become a professional dancer but adulthood hit him and he had to make money, his parents weren't supportive either and the more he worked the less time he had dancing. eventually it just became a hobby instead of a career.

dingding's grandma didn't even know that he was learning bboying from a total stranger, he was supposed to be taking the extra study lessons after school but he was skipping those. dingding learned bboying really fast and he loved it. it came to him much easier than school work ever did. he was able to progress really quickly, he learned a lot about bboying and popping from wang shu. wang shu took him to different underground dance battles on the weekends that his grandma thought he was on a sports team at school. when he saw the dance battles and how good the others were he knew thats what he wanted to do. he had no outlet for his frustrations before but dancing and just letting the music take over his body made him feel better no matter what he was going through.

his grandma found out that he was with wang shu when she went to go pick him up from the afterschool program since she got off work early that day but she learned that he wasn't there and he got picked up by a man a long time ago. instead of telling him she decided to follow him the next day after school. when she saw wang shu pick him up she freaked out and confrotned him calling him a ert and every bad word in the book. he got in a lot of trouble that day when he got home because she found out that he wasn't attending the classes like he was suppsoed to and wang shu was doing his homework so it seemed like his grades were good and even worse he was leaving with a complete stranger. but to him wang shu wasn't a stranger, he was a friend and his only friend. but his grandma forbid him from seeing him. that didn't stop dingding though because he was going to compete in a local dance competition soon and he refused to just give up.

on the day of the competition his grandma followed him and stopped him from going but wang shu defended him saying he was really good and to just give him a chance. so his grandma watched him battle kids older than him in freestyling and she was shocked to see how well he danced in only a few months because she never saw him dance before that. he wasn't shy either, it was like he transformed when the music started playing. this completely unknown kid, not even apart of a dance academy took first place and his grandma was really proud of him. dingding knew he wasn't good in school and wouldn't do well getting an office job. but he was good at dancing and when he saw other people cheer for him and how proud his grandma looked thats when he knew he wanted to dance professionally.

wang shu basically became apart of the family after that, dingding's grandma accepted him and let dingding practice dancing everyday with him. he continued doing local competitions and wang shu never asked for any money, he just did it for the love of dancing. he hated his job anyways and teaching dingding made him happy for once. dingding won a bunch of local competitions, even when academies offered to join he denied because he wanted to stay with wang shu. for the bigger regional competitions he won he got cash prizes but wang shu never wanted a cut from it because he saw that dingding had his own financial issues as did everyone in their town. during one of te regional competitions dingding got approached by a recruiter from xingjia entertainment offering him to join their company as a trainee. he was going to decline because he only wanted to work with wang shu but the recruiter told him that they want to debut the biggest boy group in china and he'll be able to show his dancing to the world. after talking to his grandma and wang shu, that was enough to get him on board.

dingding was closest to chengbin but he got jealous that dingding got into prism and he didn't so he told on him and it ruined their friendship. they joined around the same time and were both dancers so they were pinned against each other so often but they were still good friends then. even now he can't compete to how good of a dancer dingding was. he wants to get praised so badly that he can be an attention seeker. he would compare xj5's sales to vesper but dingding doesn't see it like that, he's just happy they debuted too.

wang dongyu — 01/02/2000 — istj, cold, calm, responsible— chen linong 
dongyu is the longest trainee and is a good leader in xinjia's standards. he learned how to be a leader from the xinjia staff so he's not very ethical but gets the job done, he compares the members to each other and whenever the members are being too much he scolds them and hits them. they can't hit him back because of seniority. he is a calm and responsible guy but very cold like he learned to be. he's very expressive when singing though.

hu liangzi — 02/21/2001 — intj, intelligent, obedient, follower— liu yu
liangzi he is the second longest trainee and also a very strong singer. he is well composed and knows the right things to say in interviews and life and listens to dongyu well. more of an intellectual kind of guy. he is closest to dongyu because they're both the longest trainees and have a lot of obedience. he is seen as the co-leader.

gou yihang — 07/13/2001 — estp, rebellious, two-faced, blunt — li quanzhe
yihang is a charismatic rapper known for his cute face. he's the expert at acting cute but he's more of a delinquent type, he is the least likely to listen. both dongyu and liangzi see him as a pain because he's numb to everything dongyu says or does to him, nothing hurts him anymore. he thinks chengbin needs to get over the dingding thing and liangzi and dongyu are far gone. his love for music keeps him going.

zheng longqian — 10/26/2003 — enfp, bitter, insecure, enthusiastic — zhang jiayuan
longqian is the lead dancer after chengbin thats the main dancer. he dislikes dingding because he tries hard to dance but is overlooked and never compared to him. even after dingding left training he was compared to him because as the lead dancer a lot of pressure was put on both him and chengbin. he just felt invisible because he was there longer than dingding too. so now he's really hard on himself but lifts others up.

weizhu is really quiet, he often does his own thing and is individualistic but keeps it to himself. he actually always looked up to dingding for his dancing and even more for leaving but never said anything. he just goes along with what the staff and liangzi tell him to because he wants to make money for his family.

kun approached dingding first after debuting because he learned he was from fujian too. kun will be like a reliable big brother to dingding because he knew the struggles of debuting in a diffferent country and wants to help anyway he can. they'll be like a sense of home for each other. he would probably get closer to kun faster than s. occaionallly have talks over hotpot together.

🌿 dance competitons (2012—2017) — he was a competitive bboy dancer for 5 years and won a few competitions.

TRAINEE LIFE:
🌿 xingjia (2017—2020) prism (2020—present) 
dingding started training at xingjia entertainment in beijing when he was 13 years old. it was a small company that had very few trainees but the training was intense because they wanted to produce the next big boy group. they didn't have much money or resources but tried their best. many of the boys in the company were scouted from the countryside from poor families and kept away from their families with little contact, even their phones got taken. there wasn't any red flags because he didn't know better and other trainees heard rumors that even big companies do that.

the whole training culture was really toxic though, they pinned the trainees against each other a lot. dingding loved dancing but it became a stress for him after a while because everytime anyone messed they got hit or punished with various. dingding remembered he had to go through keeping his arms up for an hour or getting hit on his hands until they started bleeding. from a mic stand to the stick of the mop, there wasn't a limit to what they got hit with. their dance instructor was one of the strictest with the shortest temper, so it was really bad for them. sometimes when he was annoyed he'd abuse them for little things like speaking out of turn or playing around. the ceo never said anything as long as they didn't bruise thier face. dingding didn't have anyone to lean on either because the other boys were pinned against each other so they would rat each other out so others would get punished instead and be favored by the trainers.

dingding having undiagnosed dyslexia made it harder for him, he already got twice more abuse because he couldn't speak mandarin well and that frustrated the trainers. he was last to follow instructions because he was trying to process what was even said. he was often dancing with injuries because of the abuse and they refused to give pain killers because he deserved it. it was his dream so he dealt with it and he saw it as a way to help his grandma even though he was miserable.

he was feeling really hopeless because its been 2 years and there were no signs of debut. one of the trainees saw an audition for prism and told him about it. his name was chengbin and he constantly talked about leaving the company but didn't know what to do if he did leave so prism seemed like a way out for them. they both sent an audition clip and made it to the final round but ultimately only dingding made it. chengbin got upset about it so he told the staff that dingding planned to leave and they beat him to intimidate him to stay. it worked because he knew he was accepted for a month but stayed at xingjia. they became more aggressive towards him and used him as an example of what happens to unloyal trainees so others wouldn't do the same.

two months after getting accepted his contract was almost over and they threatened him to renew. he said he'd think about it and immediately went to email prism that he was still interested, they'd been sending him emails consistently and he never responded. at perfect timing the day his contract ended was the same day he was supposed to fly out to korea. so instead of renewing his contract he went to the airport and he hasn't spoke to anyone from xingjia since then.

dingding came out of nowhere at prism ent and blew everyone away with his dancing abilities, he learned dances fast and every move he did was powerful and percise. he was like a mystery though, he rarely talked to anyone. it seemed like he was overly cautious about everything he did but everytime he performed he was flawless. though he was so focused on perfection it seemed like he was holding back. anyone can tell that he took it very seriously. the few times he did mess up during practice he was on the verge of tears because he was scared. he was just waiting for a staff member to pull out the mic stand and hurt him but they never did and that honestly made him even more terrified that something worse would happen. no matter how much anyone was nice to him he was still suspicious. he kept his mouth shut unless he was spoken too because he didn't speak korean well and he was scared of saying the wrong thing. at korean lessons he barely talked out of fear of messing up even if it was a safe place. people who tried to befriend him often failed. no one would expect him to make the final line up because he's only trained for 5 months but out of all the trainees his dancing is definitely in the top 3.

CAREER ASPIRATIONS: he starts off iscolated from s because he has trust issues. then once he goes through his allegations he goes through a hard time but holds it in. they learn his struggle and start putting effort to including him more, helping him with his hw and korean, learn some fujianese for him, etc. he realizes that he can actually be safe with them and starts going back to the soft little dingding that he was before. vespers becomes his actual first group of friends.
