Fanboys and Why They're Okay (I haven't ranted in a long time)

Okay, so I was reading this post about fanboys, because I had read somewhere else that SHINee had the most male fans in kpop, but I had always thought it was BIGBANG. Anyway, I came across this post that was critizing Taemin's reaction on Guerilla Date when a fanboy hugged him.

Let's be honest guys, we all know that it's rare to see fanboys that aren't for girl groups. Not to mention, we all know of Taemin's history with being mistaken as a girl. He didn't make any weird faces. He was laughing about it all. Yes, he said, "I like girls," which may seem like a defensive move, but can you blame him? The boy was constantly confused as a girl or compared to one. It doesn't surprise me that he'd try to protect his "manliness" in some kind of way. It wasn't like he put up a face of utter disgust and pushed the guy away. With the way Taemin reacted, he was more going crazy over the fact that he was chosen probably because of his looks. And that's not a bad thing. Truthfully, I'd react the same way if I was a pretty boy with fanboys.

Don't judge him and call him a homophobe simply because this. It didn't look he was upset about a guy liking him. He seemed more frustrated about the fact that his feminine appearance is what attracts male fans.

Also, if he really was homophobic, would he really be okay with getting so close to Jonghyun for Internet War or pretending to make out with Minho on stage? It's not a question of being homophobic or not. Truthfully I think Taemin is simply indifferent about it. I'm no expert, but from what I know, South Korea doesn't seem to be very accepting of homouality. However, I've also heard it normal to see two guys, completely heteroual, to hold hands. Also, we all know that Taemin is very much Catholic, as am I myself. Now, I've been raised in the US, so I am indifferent towards homouality. I have friends that are gay, and I don't love them any less for it. I do have family though, specifically my own father, that is very much homophobic, and refers to homoual people as "monsters." I don't know exactly how it is in South Korea. I don't live there, so I can't really say for sure what their exact stand on homouality is, but I do know about Christianity. Taemin could either be the type of Catholic who completely rejects homouality like my father, or someone simply indifferent about it such as myself. I mean, if I really cared about homouality, I wouldn't be writing 2min fanfiction.

I don't think Taemin saying, "I like girls," is about him reject homouality. I think it's simply him trying to assure his own manliness show people that he isn't a girly guy like his appearance suggests. In my opinion, it isn't a problem for others to be gay for him, but it is simply Taemin's way of assuring the public of his own preference, considering how often he's been confused for a girl. I mean, he's been trying to show of his manliness for so long. I don't think starting a whole girl group alert and saying that he's prettier than idol girls is really helpful to his own self esteem.

Now, there was also comments about Siwon's behavior towards fanboys. Honestly, I don't know why you guys are so surprised. We've known since SuJu's debut that Siwon is heavily religious. Christianity is a religion heavily intolerant of homouality. While it does not mean that a man is gay for liking a male group, it tends to be a heavily believed theory. So, it doesn't come as a surprise to me that he would be so distressed about fanboys. He could be one of the people that believe fanboys to automatically be homoual, and as a result, rejects them. So, it doesn't come as a surprise to me if he would react unfavorably to a fanboy.

Again, all of this is my own speculation. Don't just assume that everything I'm saying is fact. However, I do believe my own points to be true, and at least considered before saying that a certain is homophobic and bashing him for it. You have to take into considering different ethnic beliefs as well. In some countries, it's perfectly normal for guys to even kiss each other on the cheek and still be completely heteroual. So, think about those factors before judging them.

Haven't seen the show so I didn't know that people were upset/critizing Taemin but I would agree with you~
Young people in Korea are more accepting of homouality compared to the older generation. I don't think any member in SHINee is homophobic- atleast Jonghyun and Key aren't for sure- I mean remember when Jonghyun stood up for the LGTB community on his Twitter and Key has worn LGTB accessories, like rings, necklaces etc, many many times (theres even pics on his instagram). There's this show Taemin used to watch, Skins I think it's called? If i remember right i think a few characters were gay (though i don't know if it's important here but if he kept watching it meant that he doesn't mind them at all) also Taemin has worn a pin with a symbol very similar to a pink triangle surrounded by a green circle, "A pink triangle surrounded by a green circle, as used to symbolize alliance with gay rights and space free from homophobia." (Wikipedia) so...... ;wwwww;

And homouality among Korean idols isn't that uncommon actually, it's more common than people would think when thinking about how Korean people view on homouality. In the industry it's more like something you just know but you don't ask the idols about it, very hush hush if the idols themselves aren't open with it. lol my explanation but i hope you kinda get what i mean haha~

I saw the video when the fanboy hugged Taemin. I agree that Taemin didn't seem to have a problem- no weird look on his face or anything- just assured everyone that he preferred girls. This is so old, though. Why is it becoming an issue now?
