chanyeon didn't have a mother. she grew up with the story that her mother had died giving birth to her. later on as she went on in life, she found out that she was the product of her father and a chinese woman. however the story still goes on that her mother died during labor. it wasn't much of a surprise since she didn't look korean. she was always different than the other girls. she was never reserved and had a sharp tongue while everyone else held theirs. she had sharp foreign features while the others had very gentle and delicate ones. her bronze and silky skin was many shades different from their pale and milky one. while her father was busy creating a name for himself and exceeding his entrepreneurship goals, she spent her time with her grandmother and the servants that served her family. homeschooled because her father didn't want her to be influenced by outsiders, she spent her whole life cooped up in the resort she called home. learning with the servants that were near her age, she created a bond with them that not most would build with their workers. they became her family. when she was 15, her grandmother had passed away making the house more lonelier than it had been. her spontaneous and rebellious behaviors didn't strike as hard until she hit the age of 18. she had the chance to attend more education but since she was a woman her father knew she would never be taken seriously. instead she would be taken advantage of by the outside people. when she was 20, she decided to burst out of her bubble and join a pageant where she caught the eyes of prince jinki. when she left her father shouted "you're just like your mother!" and she shouted back "at least i won't be with a self-centered bastard!"
