Note That Song: The Introduction
Hey guys,
Since I like music a lot, I’m going to start doing this text post wherein I introduce to you new music I found over the past few months. These posts won’t be exclusive to Korean music, although I will mention them from time to time. My aim is to open up a world of music for you to discover, and to do that, I must not allow myself to place blinders on my readers. I really want to bring your attention to artists you may not know - artists who are talented, innovative, and original. Since this is my first post for this ‘series’, I’ll constrict it to three songs, in hopes that you, the reader, will become the listener, if only out of mere curiosity.
WIth that stated, here we go!

I can try to describe Matt Corby’s voice with as much sophistication as my mind allows, but you’d have to hear it yourself to understand - he is a man that sings with raw, unashamed, and unconfined emotion. I honestly feel like I can hear his heart breaking or rejoicing with every note he sings. He also has an extremely high and controlled vocal range. In addition, he has a wonderful way with words. What’s not to adore about such a talented and charming Australian artist? For this song in particular, his voice begins in a soothing, melancholic melody that later swells into an unexpected wave of confession and hesitation, matched equally by the strumming of a guitar and the hammering of percussion. It is utterly engaging, and completely enchanting, in a way good songs always are. Notable song mentions: Runaway, Untitled.
The name might sound familiar to you, as but a week ago I had reblogged an English cover by this artist. There’s no denying that her skill for lyrical covers as well as her creativity in original compositions are a fresh approach to music often overloaded with cliches. Paired with her soulful vocals, she’s an artist who adds color to her own world. Although her voice is strong, this song showcases a softer side of her tone. As a simple instrumental consisting of keyboard and various string instruments play smoothly in the background, the steady beat gives just the right amount of rhythm to make you want to groove. Notable song mentions: Eyes, Nose, Lips (Cover), Burning Bridges (Cover).
Jhameel is probably one of my favorite independent artists of all time. He writes his own songs, engineers his own music, and films his own music videos, with the help of a few of his close friends. Not to mention he’s got a really interesting background, from being of Mongolian-Korean-Japanese descent to being able to play 14 different instruments. His vocal style, which is extremely versatile, matches well with his diverse music. This specific song is one of my favorites of his, as it explores one’s inner battle with oneself. The music arrangement is phenomenal, and in those brief moments when he chooses to breathe out or hold back his emotion, I feel as though I am reading a personal journal not meant for anyone to read. He’s an excellent entertainer, and a generous person. Notable song mentions: White Lie, Feisty
