Writer/Reader Survey

(stolen from: AnneOnym)(I got bored, hehe)

State your fanfiction pen name.

Katgirl

Are you more of a reader or a writer?

Writer for sure, though I am reading quite a few apply fics on my other account and a couple one-shot stories. It's important to be just as avid a reader as you are a writer, after all, lest you stagnate.

When did you first start reading/writing fanfiction?

I joined AFF in January of 2012, but I've been reading and writing fanfiction for many, many moons before then. As far as I can tell, the first fanfics I published online were back in 2007 (I was eleven years old!), though the website I used didn't date anything so I don't know for sure.

What’s the first fanfiction you ever read/wrote? What is it about?

I have no idea what the first fanfic I wrote was (most likely it has been lost over time), but the first one I  completed (as far as I know) was The New Narnia. It's a cringe-worthy tale based on the Chronicles of Narnia, starring a character whose name may as well have been Mary Sue. Still, it got me into writing because of the feed-back I received on it (readers have always inspired me the most!)

What ratings do you read/write?

I have never written a mature fanfic- I dabble in that sort of thing offline- but I will admit I've read my fair share of . Frankly, it's only because I enjoy the story itself- typically I'll skip over the scenes or at least skim through them because that just isn't my thing.

What was your first fandom?

Harry Potter or Chronicles of Narnia. Though the first kpop fandom I was into was the Shawol group! ^-^

List all the fandoms you have read/written in.

Written: SHINee, MBLAQ, Infinite, and B.A.P

Read: All the above, as well as others (since apply fics tend to have a hodge podge of artists/groups involved)

What is your favourite fandom to read/write about?

B.A.P at the moment- not that you would know it by looking at my Myungsoo-heavy stories.

Any fandom you would like to write in?

BTS, though I haven't come up with a good story for them just yet

What was your first ship?

I... don't really do shipping. Though if I had to pick one, I would say that I have started being quite the die-hard DaeJae shipper (mostly because their friendship reminds me so much of my own, hehe)

List all the pairings you have read/written in.

I've read a variety of pairings, but I mostly only write Idol/OC stories. (Though BangSong does feature in my latest story!)

What is your favourite pairing to read/write about?

Idol/OC

Is there any pairing you refuse to read/write?

Not really

What is your favourite genre?

Romance/Fluff, though I can never bring myself to write a strictly light-hearted story (at least one person always has to die or be miserable, hehe)

What is your least favourite genre?

Horror. Not because I dislike it (I'm actually a big fan of the horror genre!) but because I'm SO BAD at it! Suspense would also be put in here.

Any genre you would like to read/write for?

Horror!

List all of your favourite writers.

  • Terry Pratchett. End of story, nothing further to say. This man is God on Earth and you will never convince me otherwise.
  •

Which writer inspires your own work?

Terry Pratchett! I adore his writing style and try to emulate it, though I don't want to simply copy him. I'd rather be similar than exact.

What story has the most impact to you, so much that you remember it all the time?

Any of the Discworld series. As for AFF stories... Class 3-B, Indie Pop, and Honey Bunny (though I don't recall if this is actually the title). The first two are because I absolutely love the writing style of the authors, the last one because the story was unexpectedly deleted and I lack closure XD

What is the website you use most to read/write fanfiction?

AFF! :D

Any certain things you avoid reading/writing about?

Not especially...

What do you enjoy best about fanfiction in general?

It gives me an audience to write for and creates a community for writers! Seriously, fanfiction is a great way to get started in writing; you won't make any money at it, but the feedback and support you receive is invaluable!

Does the number of views tell how good a story is?

No, though it can be helpful. Poorly written stories sometimes do receive lots of views, but the majority of the time it's stories that- though perhaps not of excellent quality- have one or two things about them that are appealing to a wide range of people. Plus, the view count increases in a weird way.

How long should a chapter be?

Long enough to get across what needs to be said. I tend to make my chapters above average in length, but it's only because I like to hear myself talk (or, would it be see myself write??)

Have you ever flamed someone?

No, my fellow writers are perhaps the only people I haven't gone off on at least once.

Have you ever been flamed?

Not that I can recall

Do you roleplay online?

I used to roleplay ALL THE TIME, but as I got more into writing stories I started losing interest, and time, in roleplaying. The few threads I kept up with have died out since then, and so although I feel nostalgia for the old times, I probably won't get back into it any time soon.

(Writers Only)

How many published fanfictions have you written?

8, including the one I'm working on now. 10 if you count the one currently on hiatus, and the other one that will probably be deleted soon because I lost all my notes.

Which one of your fanfictions has the most words? The most upvotes? The most subscribers? The most views? The most comments? How many?

Words: Probably DDTTD, simply because it has the most chapters

Upvotes: DDTTD (10)

Subscribers: DDTTD (40)

Views: DDTTD (1620)

Comments: Jelly Beans (32)

At the moment, which one of your fanfictions is your favourite/you are the most proud of? (you can include unpublished fanfictions)

Dreams Don't Turn to Dust without a doubt. Though, typically, the latest one is my favorite anyway XD

Out of all characters you have written, which one do you feel you identify the most with?

Cha Hei-Ryung (a lot of her character was based on myself, so it's only natural ^-^ )

Do you use beta reader?

No, though if someone offered I would be open to the idea...

What warnings have you used on your stories?

I don't think I've used any... should I?

What makes you happy the most as a writer?

Feedback, either in comments or reviews! I think this is probably at the top of EVERY writers list, hehe  We all love knowing that people appreciate our work (especially since fanfiction writers do it all for free).

Have you ever stolen something from another person’s work?

Nope!

What do you feel is your biggest challenge when writing?

Staying on target. My mind goes a million miles an hour, and new ideas are always popping up. I've gotten better about keeping focused on one story at a time, but already I've got 2 or 3 waiting to be written. It's tough keeping up!

Do you have any certain ritual to do before/while/after you write?

Not especially

Do you actively advertise your story or request for reviews/upvotes?

I do request reviews from a variety of review shops so I can get a better understanding of my writing, but I don't really advertise much. I guess writing thank yous on the walls of my subscribers could count, since the title is in the message, but...

Would you ever want a trailer for a fanfiction you’ve written to be made?

I would love it if other people would make trailers for me, becaues they're HARD! So far I've made them all myself, but if I could hand off the task to someone else I would be one happy little duck! ^-^
