Brothers

Another assignment I had to do for school that I decided to post.
I have to do a twenty minute free-write every Thursday and this is what I came up with. OTL

It was cold. Before anything else, that was what registered first. Breath billowing out in a cloud of steam as warmth mixed with ice, I hugged myself to savour whatever warmth I had left.
"B-Brother!" I whined as I fell in behind him. It had snowed last night and if I didn't jump in his long strides I would have been buried to my knees.
"What is it, Jason?" Peeking over his shoulder, soft brown orbs focused on me.
"I-I-I'm c-cold!" Another whine. My teeth chattered noisily and I shivered as a violent wind buffeted me from the back.
My brother quickened his pace and I nearly had to jump to each of his footsteps as I tried to keep up.

"Brother!" I cried as he failed to notice my struggles, his pace quickening even more. "W-wait up!"
Hot tears slid down my cheeks as I grew frustrated at my inability to keep up but once more my brother never slowed. In fact, he was now at a light jog. Further and further my brother got and soon I could only make out his figure.

I collapsed into the snow, my knees sinking much further than I had expected and I felt myself suffocating against the freezing white substance. My brother was no longer in sight and I began sobbing, my body shaking. However, I wasn't cold anymore. In fact, warmth covered me like a blanket.

And then I heard him. First it was quiet. Then, the voice grew louder and more concerned.
"Jason." My body began shaking again, but not with the sobs. "Jason, wake up!"
Blinking my eye open, I was shocked to see my brother's silhouette as he sat on my bed. I let out a gleeful squeal and attached myself to his waist.
"You're excited to see me," he answered with a chuckle. "I came in to check on you. Idiot, you left your window open. You weren't even sleeping with a blanket." He reached over and ruffled my hair. "What's wrong? You were crying."
I didn't bother answering. Instead, I buried my face into his warm and comforting body. My brother was still with me. It had just been an awfully terrifying dream.
