Please allow me to spazz about JTR too!!

Alright, I wasn't gonna post this, but watching the video clips of Sungmin's JTR performance again, I just couldn't help it!! XDDDDDDDDD

For those of you who were wondering what I was talking about in my previous post, here are the links to the video clips (credit goes to the owner of these clips as stated under the clips). The clips are in chronological order, by the way, and you MUST  watch them in the right order. There's no English sub or anything like that, so I'll just give you an account of what's happening in each clip. But watch the clip first before reading my description under each.

This is where Sungmin (as Daniel of course) appears in the brothel house for some secret arrangements with a man called Jack (I haven't watched the full musical, so I don't know what arrangements they're talking about, but it's definitely NOT to do with ion lol). When he arrives at the brothel house, he finds a woman almost dying (of something I can't figure out), so he runs to her rescue and whips out a knife. The woman's husband freaks out and tries to stop him, but he convinces the husband to trust him because he's a doctor and everything's gonna be fine. He then carries out some first aid treatments on the woman, and successfully prevents the woman from dying on the spot. He tells her husband to take her to hospital immediately, but the husband says he doesn't have the money for it, so Sungmin offers him the money as well (yes, he's such a lovely considerate doctor). The husband thanks him before hurrying out, and everybody praises Sungmin for his medical skills and heroic mind. The es want to seduce the cute handsome doctor (I laughed so hard at this part, especially the last girl who tosses the others out of her way and says to Sungmin, "hey, you get me for free" lolol). Sungmin's a little bewildered at first, but manages to tell them he's actually here to meet someone named Gloria (I think Gloria is supposed to be the messenger between Daniel and Jack). So Gloria comes forward, and Sungmin gives her a letter he got from Dr. Jason (whoever Dr. Jason is, or whatever the letter's for, I'm not too sure). Gloria reads the letter, and leads the way for Sungmin to meet Jack. Sungmin's friends ask him where he's going, and he just tells them he'll see them later. The es don't want him to go, and he doesn't know what to do for a moment, so he hesitates a bit, then blows a kiss for them (omg I died I died I died kyaaaaaa!!! this was pretty funny too). And the scene changes (it's quite cool how they rotate the stage). Sungmin and Gloria share a conversation about Sungmin's dream as a doctor, which is to study and develop methods of organ transplant operation to save many people's lives (remember that this story is based on 18th century and such methods weren't as widespread back then). Gloria says he looks like a kid when he talks about his dream with passion, and they slowly lean in for a kiss, but then there's a loud bang from somewhere, and they act like nothing happened (this is sooo cute). Gloria tells him to follow Jack and pushes him towards the other side where Jack is. But before disappearing, Sungmin asks if he could see Gloria again, to which Gloria replies that she stays here everyday, so Sungmin says "then I'll be able to see you everyday!", then realizes what he said, and runs off in embarrassment, yelling "Jack, wait for me!". Gloria calls him cute (yes, he's very cute).

This is where Sungmin and Jack actually meet. It looks like the arrangements between them were about the organ transplant operation, because Jack tries to provide Sungmin with fresh organs by killing Gloria, and Sungmin tells him that this is not what he signed up for. Regardless, Jack raises his hand to strike Gloria, so Sungmin plunges in to stop him, ending up caught by Jack instead. That's when the police barge in to point their guns at Jack. You can hear Jack's hysterical laugh. Jack bids Sungmin goodbye and leaves, with the police chasing after him. Sungmin checks that they're gone, and relaxes. Gloria thanks him for saving her, and asks why he did so. Sungmin tries to reply, then suddenly groans in pain and says that his heart is in pain. Gloria rushes to him to see if he's okay, saying that maybe he hurt himself while fighting Jack. Sungmin says "no, I don't think that's the case", so Gloria asks "then when did this start?", and Sungmin answers "since I saw you for the first time" (omg lololol MingDaniel you little flirt, you). Gloria pushes him away, and Sungmin follows her down the staircase. And they sing their love song, "Maybe" (I don't know if it's the right translation. Does anyone know the English name of the song Sungmin sings with Gloria?). The song's basically about Gloria denying that Daniel is in love with her at first sight because she's nothing but a e, and Daniel persuading her that it's alright to have a little hope and faith in him as he really loves her and he'll do anything to protect her (Daniel is a very pure and innocent character here). This is also where they have their kiss scene, but the camera kinda sidetracks and you can't see that (fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on how jealous you get lol).

Some time has past, I think. This is a scene where Sungmin's screams kill me every ing time. Jack grabs Daniel by the neck and says "Daniel, this is a gift for you" (I don't know what he's talking about, actually), then the police arrive. Daniel hides, and there is a couple of gun shots at Jack. You can hear water splashing, and a cop shouts "Chief, Jack fell into the water!" Daniel looks up, discovers that the brothel house where Gloria lives is burning, and dashes to the place. A woman sings "there's someone stuck in the fire, please help!" and Daniel tries to jump in, calling Gloria's name over and over again, but people stop him. Gloria burns, and Daniel screams. She doesn't die in this scene, but Daniel thinks she's dead. The way Sungmin cries while singing is just.....T____________T I've never heard someone's name being called in such a heart-wrenching way....

This clip is connected to the one below, and it's the same scene so watch this first and then the next one.

Okay, this scene is intense. There's a lot of scenes missing between this one and the one above, so some explanation is necessary. 7 years have past since the previous scenes. Jack is dead, or at least people think so. But there's panic about a horrendous serial murder of es in London. This scene is where Anderson, the detective assigned to investigate the serial murder case, visits Daniel's lab, accompanied by a reporter called Monroe. Daniel has decided to assist the investigation by confessing what he knows about Jack and his murders. Anderson asks about the machine installed in the lab, and Daniel answers that it is a freezer to store the organs and keep them fresh. Monroe tries to take a photo, and Daniel doesn't want the photo taken, but Anderson tells him that evidence is essential. Anderson then looks around the lab, and asks how Daniel contacts Jack, to which Daniel replies that Jack just comes to find him when the time requires. He adds that he meets Jack solely because it's necessary for him to do so, and that it's not so pleasant to spend a long time with a murderer. That's when Monroe accidentally hits the machine, causing it to blast steam. Daniel runs to shut it down, telling Monroe not to touch anything because the whole place might explode. At the commotion, Gloria, who has been asleep on the other side, wakes up. She's scared of the strangers and asks who they are, so Daniel comforts her by saying they're here to help him. Monroe tries to take a photo again, which Daniel stops. He sends Gloria off to another room for rest, and Monroe stubbornly takes a photo. Daniel shouts at him in anger that he won't assist the investigation if there's any more attempt to take a photo of what he hasn't permitted. Monroe's frustrated too, and Anderson calms him down. Anderson then asks Daniel when he met Jack. Daniel starts off by saying that it was a rainy day. The music begins, and that's the end of the first clip. In the second clip, as you can see, they're already half way into singing. The song's about Anderson asking Daniel if he took part in killing the es, and Daniel fiercely denying by saying he's a doctor and can never do such a thing. Daniel says that he was given the organs by someone and that someone killed the es, not him, so Anderson urges Daniel to say who the hell that someone is. You can see that Daniel suffers because of too much pressure. Daniel finally sings "it's the person we all thought was dead-" and falls on his knees, when the whole music stops. Jack reappears. Daniel writhes in agony like it's driving him crazy. I really like this scene by the way, Sungmin's acting and his voice control are brilliant.

I'm a little confused as to whether this scene comes before or after Jack's reappearance, so I apologize for this, but it should be alright. This is Daniel's solo, "I Can't Stop". It's after he got the organs and brought them back to his lab. He's obviously not very stable, so Gloria asks him if he's okay, and Daniel answers yes. Gloria goes to prepare some food for him, and Daniel says he'll be right there soon. He stores the organs in the container, and slumps down on the table. Then the music begins. The song is about his internal conflict between morality as an ordinary human being who shouldn't hurt another and morality as a doctor who may have to sacrifice one to save many lives. He knows what he's doing is illegal, immoral, inhumane and it's killing him inside, so wants to stop this, but at the same time knows that he can't because Gloria is slowly dying (I'm not sure if it's the effect of the fire, but as far as I'm aware, her organs are melting or something like that), and this is the only way he can save her in the limited time he has. He's asking himself whether he must betray everything he believes in. By the end, he yells at himself to throw away conscience and sympathy, eventually saying he can't stop. This is a very complicated dilemma, and I think the song is really well-made. It shows the conflict between two voices in the mind in a fantastic way. Of course, the way Sungmin's voice changes from one phrase to another is just amazing. I can actually hear him on the verge of tears, his voice is full of sorrow and despair, it's so good. I saw another actor singing this and to be honest, he was a little better than Sungmin, but Sungmin did an excellent job too.

This is a very important scene, because it reveals everything about the characters, conveys the main theme of the whole musical, and has all the twist in it. And let me just say Sungmin in nailed it!! The scene requires intense, and I mean, INTENSE, acting skills. People (even including some of the critiques) say Sungmin's the best Daniel in this particular scene, that he really blows the bomb and gives you freakin goosebumps. That's how good he is, baby!! Anyway, this is a huge spoiler for those of you who are in Korea and willing to watch the musical so don't read this, but for others who are stashed away in other countries like me and can't watch the musical anyway, it's fine to read this. This is a scene where Daniel struggles with himself because he has just committed a murder himself. Then Jack appears out of the blue. The music begins. Jack sings "you look delighted, what's up, tell me," and Daniel sings "where the hell were you, you were supposed to be there to kill her, why didn't you come" in a resentful way. Jack says "what're you talking about, I'm always beside you." Daniel reproaches Jack, and says "you didn't come, so I had to do it myself. I killed her!" Jack shakes him off, saying "I'm sick of your bull, stop being such a hypocrite", and Daniel says "this is it, I don't need you anymore, don't ever come back!" Jack forces him back, grasps him by the collar, and tells him "what's wrong with you, pal. Look closer, look at the real you." Daniel pushes Jack away and denies, saying "no way, there's no way!", and Jack says "this is what you wanted. I'm just your imagination." Daniel and Jack start to circle around each other, both of them singing "so it means I'm the one who killed them, the cruel murderer." Daniel snatches the stick from Jack's hand, and they switch personalities in a click. Daniel smirks (or at least I can feel that he's smirking even though I can't see his face properly! Do you notice the change of voice in a bare second? omg T___T), he sings "finally you realized the truth, you're me," which Jack repeats in a timid voice. Daniel laughs, and continues to sing " it up, you knew it would turn out like this". Jack says "no, this is not what I wanted, I'll curse you!" Daniel throws him away, saying "be honest to yourself. You enjoyed it too. Remember every single thing you did," and Jack says "I remember everything so clearly..." Daniel tells him "quit escaping and admit it", which Jack repeats. They sing "so it means I'm the one who killed them, the cruel murderer" together again, and when Jack wrests the stick from Daniel, their personalities switch once more, and you can see Daniel is frightened by the truth. Jack sings "that's it, you did well, you're finally honest to yourself," and Daniel repeats this in a somewhat weak voice. They circle around each other again, singing "I am the killer Jack, I am Jack the Ripper, I am Jack!" Then the scene changes, and Anderson runs in with a gun pointing at Daniel's head, accusing him of being a murderer. Daniel replies that he can do anything to save Gloria, Anderson punches him and kicks him down to the ground, angry at the fact that Daniel has been hiding his real identity behind the shadow of Jack, who died 7 years ago. He sings "do you have any idea how many people suffered because of you!" and Daniel merely laughs, but that's when Monroe (you can't see him in the cam) bursts out laughing as well, singing "it's not good to have another person on board, because that means I get less". Monroe asks Anderson if he wants to join in creating a hit news for some big money, making Daniel's story a newspaper headline (he's a guy crazy for money). Meanwhile, Daniel just goes completely insane and smacks Anderson with Jack's stick. You can just see how crazy and chaotic everything is, I can't even describe it in words...Daniel's laughing or crying or both at the same time, I don't know, he's a total mess, and Monroe puts a knife in Daniel's hand (at this point, we can't see Sungmin's face, but someone who's seen him up close says he slowly cracks an evil smile, and apparently it's just so ing mad that it sends chills down the spine. Such a pity I didn't get to see that T___T). Monroe sings "you're a star, a super star!" and takes photos of Daniel here and there. Then all of a sudden, Daniel lunges at Monroe to stab him with the knife, and there's some more shouting. That's when Gloria appears, screaming at Daniel to stop. Daniel screams back that this is all for her sake, and she sings "it's pointless, this is the end for me, don't do it". Daniel pauses at her voice, and Gloria starts to sing "Maybe", their first love song T_________T You can hear Daniel dropping his knife (again, the person who's seen him up close says that the tempo and the way his eyes move as Sungmin changes back from the crazy Daniel to the true Daniel and realizes what he's done with the knife are simply stunning). Later, Gloria shoots herself, the true Daniel rushes to her but it's too late, and he cries with the dead Gloria in his arms. Jack (who's of course just an imagination of Daniel) laughs and slowly leaves the stage, singing "goodbye Daniel, farewell". And then, Daniel starts singing the next parts of "Maybe" (it breaks my heart, seriously. When he was singing the same song before, he was so hopeful and happy to have found the love of his life, but now it's just tears all over, and he's singing like he's crying T_________T it's such a different feeling although it's the same song;;;) Before the song finishes, Monroe shoots Daniel, so Daniel dies after Gloria, and Anderson purposefully blows up the freezer machine, and EVERYBODY DIES!!! (or I think they do;;;;;)

T_______________________________________________________________________T

Can you feel how AMAZING  all this is? ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

I die every time I watch this last twist scene, it's crazy, yet it's so strikingly beautiful, depicting the notion of madness within every human.

It's such a well-made musical, and the two-sided personality of Daniel (purity on one side and cruelty on the other) was very well-presented by Sungmin, I gotta say.

So, hopefully I didn't bore you with the wordy descriptions, and hopefully you enjoyed Sungmin's brilliant performance too! Please leave a comment on the video clips or on this post to show how great Sungmin is ^^
