-----------------------------------------------------------
tip #1: google is your bestfriend
google, google, google anything. don't even try yahoo, bing, msn, or any of that crap. google is the answer to life. what is life? google. *note: i'm not getting paid for this. anyway, when searching for stock photos, you must use google images. must.
tip #2: narrow down your search
BE SPECIFIC. USE ADJECTIVES. USE SYNONYMS. for example: instead of flowers, roses. instead of clock, antique clock. instead of sad, sorrow. "sad" is such a broad term that useless things pop up when you search it, where as sorrow is a much more uncommon term. look up the terms i mentioned and you will see the difference.
example: "clock" versus "antique clock"
tip #3: the best quality possible
there are two ways, and i will show you right now. see that search bar at the top after you have entered something? see the tab/toolbar underneath that? click search tools > size > large. if you don't get it, click
here for an illustration.
sometimes useless shows up there too. so, just search in normal mode, find the picture you like and click on it. this black box should pop up. now select "more sizes" and google images will show you the same picture in different quality. find the best quality of the photo and use that. if you don't get it, click here for an illustration.
tip #4: follow 'em suggestions
when you enter search term, sometimes google will show you this bar at the top that helps narrow down your research
. enter "flower" for example and you'll see what i mean. at times, those things will really really really get you to your final destination. if you don't get it, click here for an illustration.
let's look at a more common way of suggestions. let's say you're searching whatever and found a picture you like. click on the picture--a box will pop up--and you will see these little icons in the "try these too" section. follow that and you'll be on the roll. if you don't get it, click here for an illustration.
tip #5: visually similar images
let's say you found a picture you like, and you click on it, and the box pops up. what you do now is drag and drop the enlarged picture into the google search bar at the top, where you enter things. you will be directed to the typical google search page and you will find a section called "visually similar images." click on that to see more wonderful things.
if you don't get it, click here and here for illustrations.
tip #6: all hail to foreign languages
this is where the universal language actually doesn't help you much. remember that this is world wide web, so of course english is most commonly used, which means of course your results will be most broad when you search in english. this trick i'm about to teach you is especially useful when you're searching for a broad term with no specific  requirements in mind.
so, if you're blessed with the knowledge of foreign languages, put that ability to use. search whatever you need in another language and you will find much better--or worse depending on the language--things. to be honest i find most of my stock photos searching in another language.
and if you don't know another language, get to know google translate aight?
Example: english
versus spanish
versus vietnamese
versus korean
which of those results was most helpful? i'll let you be the judge of that :) tell me your answer if you want. more than happy to hear from you <3
