EXO's Wolf - Live vs. Lip-synced
I'm going to be honest here and say that, to me, the live is very important. I always watch the live of new releases, even if I only watch one, I still watch it - or, rather, with some groups, I don't watch it, but I listen to it, instead.
That's the reason I hate pre-releases. I have to wait for the lives forever. I so badly want to listen to a live Coffee Shop (I think that Youngjae and Jongup will shine).
I suppose it's a reason why I like B.A.P and Infinite, they always pull off spectacular live performances.
B.A.P are called the live-dols, and I can see why. I mean, they aren't great at the lip-syncing. I don't know if I should be proud or not :b
Lip-synced
Live
See the difference? Maybe it's just me, but I prefer the latter stage. (Apart from the outfits, of course. Why? Why? I can bet that Daehyun and Jongup are roasting in their turtlenecks and jackets. I'll bet the fire on stage doesn't help, either.)
EXO are from SM, so they were obviously trained to lip-sync and they expected they were going to do lip-syncing. (They always make their idols lip-sync for the first week, which was a bad move with EXO, to be honest.)
I know dances are tiring and that they don't want to tire some idols out, but why are you a singer and why are you given that dance if you can't sing live?
EXO lip-syncing annoys me, to be honest. The song sounds a lot better when it's done live. I prefer the live to the CD version.
But one thing I noticed is that just before Chen's high note, when he and Baekhyun are singing, Baekhyun almost looks nervous and scared (3:22).
I know for a fact that Chen doesn't get the credit for some of his lines. He sings lines with Baekhyun, yet he's not even on stage, so they use the CD version.
But, when Jongdae does sing live with Baekhyun, he completely drowns out his voice. Chen's got a really powerful voice, and I can barely hear Baekhyun.
But here's my list of who sounds better live, worse live and the same. (Based on Wolf.)
Kris - Same
Xiumin - Same
Luhan - Better
Suho - Same
Lay - Same
Baekhyun - Better
Chanyeol - Same
Chen - Same
Kyungsoo - Same
Tao - Same
Kai - Better
Sehun - Same
I prefer their voices in the live, I think that some of their voices in the CD version was slightly tweeked. It's not that I think they sound bad in the CD, it's just they're better here.
Also, here's who stands out most to me live:
Baekhyun, Chen, D.O (he stands out the most), Luhan, Chanyeol and Suho.
I think the reason Baekhyun stands out is because he looks terrified and I find it severly endearing. Suho has that look about him, Chen is one of the best at finding the camera (along with Baek) and his highnotes are enough of a reason, Luhan's voice grabs you, Chanyeol looks like a little puppy, but it grabs you, but Kyungsoo . . . I don't know what it is about him, but he just grabs you from the get-go. He's captivating. My eyes are really drawn to him a lot of the time. This guy just tore up my bias list ><
Kai is on camera a lot, but there isn't anything about that is very enthralling, unless he's at the front dancing - but he's competing with Lay there. He doesn't stick in your mind.
EXO are good at the lives, so I don't understand the lip-syncing. Occasionally doing it is understandable, but when they did it for the week, I underestimated them and the song lost my attention.
It's not EXO's fault (at least, from what I'm guessing), it's entirely on whoever is organising this.
But I replayed this more times in a row than I did the CD version of Wolf. It's soo good. I can't wait for the repackaged album ^_^
And be honest, in the EXO Wolf live (^ that one), you melted when Chen looked at the camera, right? :)
I ended up smiling like a dork and I probably looked like this:
