The "y" Concept.

I kinda feel like all of the comebacks lately are becoming so…. unoriginal and repetitive. I get that everyone is maturing but what up with all of these “y” comebacks? Is that all there is now? Where are the powerful or fierce or empowering or playful or elegant or sophisticated or classy or sensual comebacks, huh? The only original female comeback so far has been Hyori with Miss Korea (elegance/class) and CL (power/swag). Hell, even Tara N4 had an original concept with their debut track. So why are other groups so incapable now?

It’s one thing to want the industry to accept that women can be as y and as confident as men, but it’s another thing for a company to extort their group to either grab or maintain attention, which is exactly what they are all doing now: playing out the y concept to appease the male public and maintain attention. Especially after how well it worked for Girls Day considering that, let's be honest, wasn't exactly a popular group, not as popular as they are now at least. As much as I like AS as well as the pole-dancing concept (did you see all of them injuries? That's dedication right there. Respect.) I just feel like they were trying too hard. BUT, it doesn't take away from the fact that being a pole dancer IS NOT the easiest task. It's not only a stripper thing and shouldn't be so looked down upon since it is considered somewhat of an art form, if done with grace and class. I mean you have to have mad upper body strength to be able to do half of the things they do and then some. It's just that honestly... I'm getting really bored of it. But I think with AS it's slightly more acceptable.

The same way I hate grown women doing the "cutesy" concept, I'm kind of beginning to get sick of the "y" concept. Especially when it's y and tasteless and degrading. Sorry, but I don't find rubbing your hand over your , spreading your legs and shaking your in front of the camera to be y. y is what Miss A did with Touch, what BEG did with Sixth Sense, 2NE1 with I Love You, Sistar did with Alone and Sistar 19 with Not Gone... um.. around... not any... longer? Yeah, not gone- no, gone not around any- no, not any- oh whatever, YOU KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT! Those were all both y and classy. It's sad that people argue that only one type of y exists when that isn't the case at all. Look at Aaliyah, my freaking idol to this day, and how y she was by wearing baggy pants and a cropped top and dancing without having to be lewd. In Kpop we've been made to think that the ty y is the only type of y that exists but it's not. y was once upon a time a lot less obvious and in your face.

I don't know... maybe it's different for a girl, then it is for a guy, the same way guys don't understand the exposing of the abs. Oh and can I just say that I despise the way women play the gender card only when it benefits them. "Oh well if guys can expose, so can girls," hold up buddy, it is not the same. It's not like their flipping out their wonker, okay. I understand girls being able to wear midrifts and shorts but jeez aren't these the same freaking people complaining about Western music and how it's so ual and disgusting and blah blah blah. So because it's your favorite Kpop artist, it's okay? No. It's not right anywhere. Sorry. I know you want to believe in equality and that's fine but the reality is that exposure doesn't empower women, nor does that benefit you in any way. I want to see when you have a daughter how you feel about them dressing up like they're being sold for . We can talk then.

Oh, and am I the only one bothered with how people are quick to judge certain outfits but not the suggestive dance moves themselves? Like how it was okay for... oh crap... who was it? Oh well whatever, basically most of them, how it was okay with some group whose name I can't freaking remember to spread their legs and basically wipe their crotch but not okay for Kara to BARELY expose their back, which wasn't really their back but a fabric they had on? I know exposure of the back is a big deal, I'm not ignorant but... compare the two... logically, reasonably. which on is worse? It's just like how the other day people were hating on CL's one-piece that she wore on Inkigayo. Dafuq! She showed the least amount of skin then the average Kpop girl and people had the audacity to say it was too much! Are you forreal?! It's a freaking one-piece worn under a colorful jacket that she had on. Only the front of her legs were exposed while other girls that night had on mid-drifts and short highwaisted shorts that exposed , literally. Yet CL's outfit was the problem? I never knew CL had so many haters until she went solo. Damn.

Anyways: y. Trashy. Big Difference

Can we just say that CL's concept was more like "Powerful"?
Let's go examine one example of kpop "iness": Hyuna.

I think you were talking about Secret in their song Poison. Yup, I think you were. And yes, I especially agree with you on how some groups actually became more popular through their y *cough* ty *cough* concepts. And honestly, we can say that Poison is way worse than Miss A's Touch. Because Miss A didn't really dwell on iness but on sadness instead. Or is that just me?
