Her whisper is the lucifer, an Analysis

Hello all who read this,

Today was the memorial day of the second world war in my country, but that has little to do with this blogpost to be honest. Days such as the memorial day, make me think and remember. I remembered something very distinctly this time though; an analysis of that single line in SHINee's Lucifer.... "Her whisper is the Lucifer"

I went all sentimental, which I hardly do, and I looked up the essay I had written back in university (I was in uni for english literature, in case you're wondering), but it's really really long and a lot of it isn't even about SHINee at all, so I will tell you the things that might be interesting for you to know.

Shinee facts~!

Her whisper is the lucifer

When I first heard Lucifer, I was immediately drawn to that single line. I come from a pagan background, but I was raised in a Christian environment, so I got a taste of the bible and more specificly, it’s symbolism. What most people usually don’t realise is that the bible has been rewritten at least a dozen times, the version we know today is very very child friendly, the older ones are a little less forgiving. You might wonder, what does that have to do with the song? Well, nothing and everything.

The word Lucifer, originates from Latin, meaning bringer of light, but is also name referring to the fallen angel, formally known as Lucifel, who embodies the devil but isn’t him (the devil is named Satan in the bible mind you), but when it’s used as a noun and the ‘the’ is added in front of it, it refers to something completely different actually :) .
The meaning of the noun Lucifer isn’t found in dictionaries anymore and not even Wikipedia has the complete insight, no, but bibles from the 19th century do~!
So my search brought me there, to the noun the Lucifer. It refers to the exact moment that Lucifel decides to turn his back to God, that decision which made him into Lucifer, so they called the fall of the angel the Lucifer. The fall that symbolises the loss of certain morals.
In later editions of the bible, a lot of ‘demonic’ things and phrases were removed, making the bible more ‘child friendly’.

So what does this mean for the lyrics? Well; the song is about love and about her whisper being the Lucifer to the one who wrote it, implying that he might have wanted to sacrifice some  of his morals.
But why a biblical reference in a SHINee song? Well South Korea is still a Christian country, even though they have only been that for around 60 years, they’re catholic so most would know the name but not the noun. Plus the songwriter is Christian.

Would the writer have known? I highly doubt it, I think that the Lucifer sounded better in the beat than just Lucifer. BUT the songwriter of Lucifer is pretty damn well known, he wrote almost all the title songs for TVXQ (Including rising sun, purple line and catch me) as well as all of EXO’s singles, the man makes tons of biblical references! Though I don’t think he would have gone as far as searching for the noun the Lucifer.

Knowing the meaning makes me look at the song in a different way, instead of it being about just love, it is now also about the morals that come with love, do you keep them? Or do you let them go?

Hope you enjoyed this little fact~!
