Clothes

Can you tell the difference between American and Asian clothes? I don't mean the traditional costumes but the normal clothes, like dresses and shirts and stuff like that.

Why do I ask? Well, here's the background story:

I commented on a a friend's outfit and my other friend was like ">.> Katy, it's just a dress. What's so Asian about it?"

What's so Asian about it? This was my answer:

The construction of the outfit,

How it's put together,

The stuff that’s on the outfit and things like that

My friend was like “O_O ….”

So do you guys know the difference?

I’ll show you an example:

I don't think I've EVER seen something like this in an American store.. Period. Okay, this might be a bad example.. let me find another one...

Okay, MUCH better example~ But seriously... you just wouldn't find this in a normal American store xD And if you look closely at the clothes, you'll notice the stitching is different and the material used to make the outfit is not the same. None of my Asian dresses are stretchy and they're all stiched the same way..

xD am I making any sense? xD Asian girls out there, wanna help me out? xD

Girl! I understand you so much! They are so totally different and then people want to go ahead and say "what's the difference?" or "I see nothing different at all!". Asian clothing for girls is more cute and elegant yet it has a slight sophistication to it. The colors are bright and it makes you look like you are always dressed up, even in your most bummed clothing. Whereas American styled clothing is showy and y or normal/casual (tees, jeans, shorts). Basically Asian clothes are more cutsy/fancy (most of the time) and American clothes are mostly 't-shirt and jeans'. But don't you just feel so happy and fashion-y when you buy a k-outfit? Whenever I do I fangirl over myself in the mirror! Then when I wear it.. I flaunt and everything! It's actually hilarious how clothing can make you feel so high up and what-not.

Lol like some people before me, Forever 21 is the "trend" and alot of their clothing is asianlike xD but there is definitely a difference. Asian's are more for the cutesy ruffled style with lots of pastel, whereas Americans like to dress more classy, casual, or even y xD As an Asian living in the US, I'm not a fan of the asian oversized sweatshirts with shorts and leggings.(I think that's kind of tacky) So I don't shop at Forever 21 xD I'm more into Abercrombie/Hollister clothing. (I like jackets and outerwear). Lol but I really like some Asian styles- I just can't really pull it off without being called a poodle

Personally, I think Asian clothes are tackier, they focus on the in-your-face details such as frills and whatnot but don't pull together a look with sophistication. However, I am a fan of some higher class Korean/Chinese/Japanese brands. This is just a generalisation.

Hmmm.
I guess Asian clothes can be more cute and elegant...
But honestly I feel like there is no great difference until you get to traditional clothing.
Maybe it's just that Forever 21 clothing is pretty much a norm around here and they have that cute and elegant feel but still have American roots. (No surprise since the founders are Korean :3)

I can CLEARLY see the difference!!! I'm not Asian, but I can see it!!! ANy person with a minimum observing skills would see it, but hey!!! I love asian clothes (though I REALLY can't fit in them!!! XD) and European styles too (can't fit those either!!! u_u')!!! XD

Of course there is a difference. The style is the major thing that influences everything. Tbh I don't really like asian fashion that much ^^; like not the pure cutey style at least. I like the one that is kinda a mix between asian and western styles- like the knitted stuff with denim shorts, etc.
And talking about material- it's not like Asians use different textile for their clothes, because you can only have so many different fabrics. I think it's got more to do with quality as asian clothes tend to be higher quality for a lower price. If you want good stuff in western countries, you usually gotta pay up :D So I don't think one type of clothing is better than the other- it all depends on the style you like.
Besides, lots of kpop idols sport american fashion not only in photoshoots and MVs but in daily life too, so it can't be that bad :P I just think kpop fans have a preference to asian things, since that is often what gets them into it in the first place ^^

and in Europe this kind of style is not really asian-only anyway. It's more like bringing the old times back kind of thing. I don't know about the USA though D:
