review rubric

because i'm part of another review shop now ^^

Title: [-/5]

I don’t focus as much on titles—as long as they pertain to the story and aren’t shallow or simply too not attention-grabbing (i.e. “My Boyfriend is Jonghyun???” or “My Arranged Marriage With the Guy I Hate??”) then I am more than happy to give a good score for this section ^^ Bonus points for a lovely, beautiful title that fits your story extremely well.

Presentation/Description/Foreword: [-/10]

As long as your story does not blind my eyes I’m fine with the presentation. To me, what matters more is the quality of the writing, not the presentation of the story, so formatting, design, descriptions, and forwards are not necessarily important to me. However, if your description is really not very interesting and/or your forward is too long and rambling and doesn’t really get to the story (character profiles generally make me slightly annoyed; however, if it’s short or done well I suppose I can live with it), I will dock off points because an enjoyable reading experience is something to be improved on!

Grammar: [-/10]

Grammar is very important in a story to me. If it’s less than five mistakes, then I’m fine, but if there’s a noticeable pattern, I will point it out. I won’t mark you down for stylistic choices, as long as it is noticeable that it is a stylistic choice. About English as a second language—since English is my second language, I generally do not become more lenient because even though you’re writing in a different language that you may not be completely fluent in, the entire point of getting your story reviewed is to improve! So part of the process is for me to help you on your grammar so that you can improve upon it. There is no reason for me to be lenient because if I am, I cannot help you fix any grammar problems you may have so that you can become even more proficient at English.

Plot: [-/20]

If your plot is boring and completely unrealistic, then I will flip tables and mark you down and cry but to me, as long as the plot is structured and coherent—it doesn’t have to be complex—then I will have no regrets about giving you a good score for it. However, since reviewing isn’t about the score and more about improving, I will give advice on better plots as I see fit, and rewards good plots with more points and praise! I am completely open to clichéd stories—because clichés can be extremely well written.

Characterization: [-/20]

I will have a mental breakdown if you write about Mary Sues and Gary Stus or whatever people call them these days. Character development over the story does not necessarily have to apply depending on the effect the writer wants to create, but I look for characters that catch my interest and are realistically developed. Realistic does not necessarily mean it will happen in real life—it means it is realistic for the situations and context presented.

Flow: [-/10]

Varied sentence structure, good style, interesting structure—make it nice to read and I will be very happy. Bonus praise for beautiful flow!

Style: [-/25]

Ah, style is something I love because it can be done so wonderfully. I keep a lookout for interesting styles, but be aware, just because it’s interesting doesn’t mean it’s good. Nice style that makes everything look well written is perfectly fine, but the more interesting the style and the more well integrated it is, the happier I will be.

Originality/Overall Enjoyment: [-/10]

Originality applies to how well you write something out plot wise or structure wise—not necessarily how un-cliché your plot is. Overall enjoyment should be pretty much self-explanatory (:
