Personality:

With soft, delicate looks, Mina is as sweet as she looks. She’s the friendly girl who is genuinely nice. Mina’s an outgoing one, always the first to talk. She’s the one who’ll politely tap you on the shoulder and greet you with a bright smile followed by a joke, and sadly, a lame joke. As happy and cheerful as she seems, Mina has a bad sense in humor and always tells the cheesiest lines. Still, her effort is enough to touch your heart because you can see through her glistening eyes that she wants you to be happy.

In the media’s eye, Mina is dubbed with the label as South Korea’s Little Daughter, and their shots of her prove her worthy of the name. Throughout variety shows or game shows, Mina is always seen with a positive energy resembling a youth’s spirit. She’s adventurous and is always a curious bunny who’s hopping to and fro to see what’s going on. She’s also the little sweetheart that everyone loves to see because she’s always there helping one accomplish things they don’t want to do. At times she’ll be cheering at the sidelines for everyone (whether they’re on her team or not) to overcome their fears; she’ll also be the girl to step up the game and take on the challenge no one seems to want to do. Mina’s the type of girl who tries hard in everything she does with her niceness coating her outside. If it’s a race she’s running, she’ll bolt past everyone only to give up her place to turn back and help the fallen girl who just tripped.

Mina’s offstage character isn’t much different. She’s still the same caring girl as she is on the screens since Mina believes that everyone should show out their true colors and her color happens to be a rainbow instead of just one solid color. It may seem unrealistic, but believe it because it is true. Mina’s still the blunt, naïve girl who’ll laugh after everyone did because she finally put the pieces of the puzzle together and figured out why they were laughing in the first place.

Although she is an optimistic girl, that does not mean she won’t have any other emotions. In fact, she’s one of the most emotional girls seen. When watching a sad drama she’ll be crying out rivers over some sappy scene since she connects with the characters. And when someone crosses the line, Mina will explode. She will then frown at you and shoot you a death glare, but no need to worry. Since she is emotional, she easily changes her mood back to her original one. You may be the person she’s mad at for one minute but she’ll be offering you a freshly baked cookie the next.

To her members, Mina is the little elf of the house. She does many errands without being asked and marks her territory in the kitchen. She loves cooking and baking so the umma chef skills are left to her. Also, she’ll be seen picking up dirty hoodies off the floor and returning it to each member’s hamper without being told to and regularly, she does all the laundry. Mina is the caring type, easy to connect with and is a big, life sized teddy bear. She’ll be there for her members at all times, offering hugs when they are needing of one, making soup for them when they are sick, comforting them when they are sad, being mad when they are furious too, and running to the department store seven blocks away to get the special allergy prevention tissue paper that someone needs to had. Nevertheless, Mina may be childish but she’ll straighten up her back and be the girl just for you.

Habits:

  • Doing a lot of aegyo (it’s unintentional ‘though since she doesn’t like too much aegyo herself)
  • Sleeping with a nightlight on
  • Flailing her arms around when she’s excited
  • Running errands without being asked
  • Being overemotional

Family Background/History:

Mina was born and raised in Los Angeles California. She lived with her parents and her grandmother from her mother’s side. Throughout her childhood days, Mina was exposed to the world of music since her mother was a piano teacher. She fell in love with it instantly and decided to make it her life’s occupation. ‘Though most parents would tell their children to have more realistic dreams, her parents were different. They believed in her and her capabilities so they signed her up for various classes, aiding her into a successful idol life. In her younger days she took on: gymnastics, dance, piano, guitar, and vocals. To this day, her parents are still supporting and are always there to talk to her on the phone when she needs support. Her grandmother however was a little stricter and often tried to get Mina to follow a more realistic path like her cousins. However Mina managed to win her grandmother over when she composed an original song for her titled: “The Old Oak Tree”. Since then, her entire family trusted her and her talents.

Training Experience:

Mina trained at JYP Entertainment for a grand total of three years and three months. She was discovered through her YouTube cover group Bliss which she was a main vocalist and lead dancer for. JYP saw much more potential in her and offered her a place to stay at Korea (since Mina’s parents had to stay in the USA) and strengthened her talents. In the middle of her training years, JYP saw acting potential in her and launched her as an actress in which she took on cameo roles in You’re Beautiful and Dream High. Mina was also featured in MBLAQ’s Mona Lisa MV as well as SHINee’s Juliette Japanese Version MV.

Since Mina also is a composer and lyricist she was an active participant in the first Neon album and helped compose and write two of the songs.

  5. Jay Park
  6. Kyuhyun (Super Junior)

Rival: Ahn Sohee

  • Why?: As much as Mina respects Wonder Girls, Sohee and her had never gotten along well. The two were both running for the same idol-actress concept and with Mina’s sudden popularity in the company Sohee felt insecure and threatened Mina. Mina had felt offended at the threats and since then the two held a small prick at their hearts with each other. Instead of clawing at each other, the two prefer to avoid each other and when they have to see each other for work they stay as far always as possible: Sohee does this to avoid comparisons and Mina does this to avois fights.

Partner: Key | Mir | Joon

  • How do you want them to meet or have they already met?: Mina and him had already met before and are in fact, close friends.
  • How does he act around her? The two have crushes on each other but they both don’t know of their mutual feelings. They are too afraid that if they say something about it that their friendship would be washed off and go up like smoke.
